Migrating to Portugal to retire.

I am having a debate with friends.

This couple I know are working on their Portuguese residency/citizenship through family ancestry or something like that (not very relevant for the question, I think).

What they say is that once they move over there, they can start getting government pension because they will be citizens. What I say is that they will not be able to get a pension since they never contributed to the system. They say I’m wrong because since the government has to support all citizens.

Who is correct?

To be honest, it annoys me a bit that people just want to milk the system.

Funny, that I also know people that also want to do that move in Spain. I may post in a Spain forum if there is any.

Are there any Portuguese fans? Or fans that would come to Portugal?

Are there any Shoot From The Hip fans from Portugal here? 🇵🇹

I’m trying to convince a Portuguese venue to invite them for a live show, and I need to prove there’s an actual audience here.

Tom and Luke have mentioned before that the way international shows usually happen is through venues reaching out to them — and obviously the venue needs to believe enough people would come. For their trip to be financially worth it.

So if you’re from Portugal (or nearby in Europe and would travel), please comment:

  • your city/country
  • whether you’d go to a show here
  • and if you’d realistically buy tickets

Even short replies help a lot — I’m trying to gather proof that there’s enough interest to make this happen 🙏

Would especially love to hear from Portuguese fans because I know I can’t be the only one here 😭

Is it reasonable to move to Portugal as a 50 year old woman

I have a masters in hotel management and have worked from the age of 21 till 45 followed by a long break till 50 where I started working in a school up until now.
In terms of documents I have a Portuguese passport and everything. Would it be recommended to move to Portugal as in worried about ageism.

Traveling with an older adult

I’m taking my 80 year old grandma to Portugal this summer. My aunt (my grandmas daughter in law) is from Portugal and her parents still live in the Azores, so she invited us to come and visit while she is there for the summer.

I am just hoping to get any tips and tricks or places to see/visit. I’m 30 and she is incredibly worried she is going to “hold me back”. I honestly don’t care, I will just be vibing and relaxing wherever. I feel as though I can go back and experience the country how I want at any time, so I mostly want my grandma to have the best experience without totally exhausting her and making the trip miserable.

We are visiting Lisbon, Pico island (where my aunt will be), Terceira Island, and Porto over about 20 days. My aunt has only been back to Portugal twice since she moved to the states as a small child and says she doesn’t remember much or have enough knowledge to give me any tips.

Any advice? Recommend renting a car? Are taxis common enough to get us around the hilly areas? Anyone else have any places they absolutely loved? I am not opposed to renting a vehicle in any or all of the locations, day trips, tours, etc.. TIA, can’t wait to visit your beautiful country. I am very excited to try traditional Portuguese food!!
