ill just post it h3r3 because i dont have a lot of karma points CAPPING BATCH SONG THOUGHTS
I want to share this anonymously because I genuinely do not want this to become a personal issue or for anyone to feel attacked. This is simply an honest opinion from someone who is part of the batch.
First and foremost, I want to make it clear that I am not trying to discredit, disrespect, or fail to appreciate the students who created the song. The song is nice, the singers did a good job, and I genuinely appreciate the effort and creativity that went into making it.
However, if we are talking specifically about a batch song for our upcoming capping, I personally do not feel that the song currently being shared is something that represents what I had envisioned for such an important milestone.
What concerns me more is not necessarily the quality of the song, but the process of choosing it.
From what many of us understood, the batch song for capping was supposed to be something that would involve the entire batch. It was supposed to be something that everyone could discuss, suggest, and eventually vote on.
But as far as I know, not everyone was given the opportunity to suggest a song or vote on what they wanted. If this song is eventually going to represent our entire batch, I think that is something worth reconsidering.
This is not about saying that the people who created the song did something wrong. They put effort into it, and that effort deserves to be appreciated. But appreciating someone’s work does not necessarily mean that we have to automatically choose it as the final song.
A batch song is supposed to represent all of us. It should capture our experiences, struggles, friendships, growth, memories, and everything that brought us to this point. Because of that, I feel that everyone should at least have the opportunity to have their voice heard.
If the song that has already been posted is being considered as the official batch song for capping, I sincerely hope that it is not treated as final yet.
There are so many songs out there that could potentially resonate with our journey. Some songs carry themes of perseverance, friendship, growth, uncertainty, hope, and moving forward together. I think exploring different options would give us a better chance of finding something that the majority of the batch can genuinely connect with.
We have all experienced different things throughout this journey. We have had difficult days, stressful moments, disappointments, achievements, laughter, doubts, and moments where we had to remind ourselves why we started in the first place.
That is what makes a batch song meaningful.
Years from now, when we hear that song again, it should hopefully bring back memories of this particular chapter of our lives and remind us of the people we shared it with.
That is why I think it deserves more discussion before anything becomes final.
Maybe we can simply open the floor for everyone to suggest songs. Give people the opportunity to explain why they think a particular song represents our batch, create a shortlist, and then let the entire batch vote.
That way, when the final song is chosen, everyone can genuinely say:
“This is the song our batch chose.”
Not because someone decided it for everyone, but because the majority had a voice in the decision.
Again, this is not an attack on the singers, the students who created the song, or the people involved in organizing things. Their effort is appreciated, and there is nothing wrong with acknowledging that the song is good while also expressing that it may not be everyone’s personal choice for such a significant occasion.
At the end of the day, I think we all want the same thing: for our capping to be memorable and meaningful.
And if the song is meant to represent all of us, then I believe all of us should have a say in choosing it.
