Free GK 4x10 cab, worth fixing?

I’m thinking probably not.
My buddy had an early 2000’s GK 410 blx-ii sitting in the corner. It wasn’t his.
I reached out to the owner, another buddy - it wasn’t his either.

“Dude, fkn take it. If it works, it’s all yours”

I lugged it home. It doesn’t work.
Took it apart, did the ol’ 9V battery check to the speakers…..nothing works. It’s like totally dead.

You wouldn’t know by looking at it, it’s in great cosmetic shape.

Now… I don’t think it’s worth putting new speakers and labor into, given the price tag wasn’t high to begin with. But the cab is solid.

What happened to this thing, overloaded?

It was free, so I took a chance. I didn’t get duped, but I struggled to bring it inside and wanted it to work.

Not sure where to go from here. I do not need it, I have a SVT fridge. But my bandmate could use it, and I struck out. Kinda bummed.

New amp

So I just bought a dingwall 5 string ng3 and was wondering what amp should I buy? I looked around a bit and saw the ampeg rb-115 and another mark bass (I don’t remember the model) is it a good idea or should I wait and buy a head and a cab? Thx a lot!

Stupid question about Wattage and Ohms and whatnot.

Hello all,

I run my guitar rig into a Hughes and Kettner QC310 250W Bass combo which has an external speaker line out. For gigging I'd like to have an extension cab and use the combo as my monitor on stage. I currently have a 2x12 8 ohm cab with 2 70W speakers. One of the lines out connects the extension serially. For the wattage, can I safely run the combo into the extension, or is the wattage too high even when the internal speaker is also connected? Thanks in advance

Advice on upgrading bass amp

Im running a Tech 21 VT200 (1x12, 150W). Sounds decent at lower volume, nice mids, but the more I push it the more the low end compresses, then by rehearsal volume it’s noticeably mushy/distorted on the bottom. Im playing a StingRay, instrumental rock band.

Was thinking of moving to a proper head + cab instead of another combo or add an extension (for now/budget). Weighing:

- Ampeg SVT-210AV Bundle, I think it lands on similar watts but split into 2x10, kinda afraid to invest and end up failing into the same issue

- Orange OBC112 400w, add it as an extension for the vt200 for now, giving extra speaker area (maybe move away from the vt200 later and get another one and a head)

- Fender Rumble 210 350w, I haven’t decided on a head yet (can add with vt200 for now), but saw reviews mentioning low end mush when pushing even with a 150w head

Any thoughts/insights or other suggestions too? Thanks in advance.

Bass guitar, guitar amp, but only for midi out (no speaker volume)

Im the proud owner of a beautiful sound gear bass which I’m trying to use more often with my music software. I have a cheap but powerful bass amp with no usb B port and I’m not willing to buy midi cables, so I’m intending to use my already capable BOSS MK 2. Power control stays in standby so there’s no signal going to the speakers at all, but with that in mind, is there another way I could damage the unit using the frequencies of the bass guitar? And if this is a solid idea, any suggestions for good tone?

Used amp day!

Been looking for a good quality used amp for a while and found this one while scrolling at lunch. Looks brand new and sounds great. Even came with a dolly cart that I don’t need but it’s kind of nice that it keeps it off the floor in my basement. Always loved the sound of these St. Louis built Ampeg amps.

Suitable for guitar and bass?

I’m mainly a guitarist, but have been offered fill in gigs, as well as some extra bits for bass.
Both my guitar amps (fender hotrod deluxe and laney vc30). Both got flooded, possibly repairable but they really needed replacements anyway.

Are there any amps that would work for both? I love the fender clean sound but also that break up at high volume, doesn’t need to be a fender, but guitar tone is the priority, I’ll be getting one regardless.

On OP baseman would do the job haha.

But yeah. Any suggestions? I understand they won’t sound perfect, just good enough local gigging.
Would fenders just sound too muddy on the bass (and also maybe blow the cone?

Any advice welcome. Haven’t thought to hard about price range cos I got no idea what to even look for.

probably ideally under $2500aud (bout $1300 us maybe?

Open to any and all feedback
TIA

Amp for Ampeg 610HLF

I'm looking to buy a new amp for my 610 (600w RMS @ 4 ohms) and im torn between a few options. I don't want a non-Ampeg. I'm currently running a PF500 with it, but I'd to upgrade to something nicer and more reliable.

SVT 7 Pro- 1000w @ 4 ohms

SVT 3 Pro- 450w @ 4 ohms

Venture V7- 700w @ 4 ohms

I've always ran amps rated slightly under what my cab(s) can handle because its the safe option, but I've read many people use the SVT 7 Pro with this cab. The SVT 3 Pro seems to be the most commonly used amp with it tho. The Venture seems nice, but possibly a lateral move from my PF500. What do you think?

Wondering what the better option is between fender rumbles

I’m a new bassist with a couple months experience. I have been using a Glarry amp that came with my bass and it sounds terrible which I expected. Looking to upgrade to something budget friendly and used. I see multiple listings for V3 Fender Rumble 25s for ~$100 on Facebook marketplace, but there is also an old style Fender rumble 100 for $140. My only goals are to play at home for fun and possibly jam with my one buddy who plays guitar. No interest in joining a band. Is it worth the extra money for the 100w despite it being the older style, or should I go for the 25w?

Fender Rumble 15 (15W) vs Cort CM20B (20W)?

Which one should I get as a beginner?
Fender has the brand prestige but then Cort seems to be value for money😭
Does the 5W difference even matter 😭

Mount Doom

Good for the soul, bad for the neighbors and the structural integrity of my house.

For the most part, any two amps can be biamped or master/slaved to power both cabs, except the Bass which can only serve as a master. The MAX and the Kilobass can power both cabs independently, and I’m mostly playing the Kilobass through both these days. The Mark IV anf Mark VIII both have line out going to the studio board.

Mold in amp?

Hi all. I'm brand new to playing bass and figured I'd buy a cheap, used amp to get started. I got this from Guitar Center and it arrived reeking of mildew or something. It just smelled like a mix of chlorine and old bookstore. I figured I'd wipe everything down and stick it in a bag with baking soda for a while, but I opened this up and it looks like this. Is this actually way more dangerous or beyond saving? I tried scrubbing it, but it's not coming off, so I'm not sure if this is just dirty glue or something?

Just grabbed this head for a great price!

Ashdown 600 Evo IV sitting atop of my recently refurbished Aguilar DB810 cab. Truly a dream right for me.
