Where to go dancing in Berlin if you’re not into techno?

Hi! I’m travelling to Berlin with a group of friends (we’re all women in our mid-30s) at the beginning of October. We’re going to celebrate one of our birthdays, so we’re looking for some advice on Berlin’s nightlife!

We’re not really into techno or the whole drugs/club scene — we’d much rather have a few drinks, dance, and listen to music we can actually sing along to 😂
We’re also very interested in the queer/LGBTQ+ scene and would love to check out some places with a fun, welcoming atmosphere.

What bars, clubs or parties would you recommend for us? Any tips would be much appreciated! 🥂💃

Djing in Berlin - New to the city

Hi All,

I recently moved to the city and have been djing abroad for 10+ years. Unfortunately not techno but more towards house, deep house, chill house but on occasions also mixed music (hip hop, r&b, charts, reggaeton, afrobeats etc). I would love to get an opportunity to start playing here again. I have played for multiple erasmus events in Berlin before as well.

Any bars, lounges or clubs looking for someone would love to have a chance to start playing here.

Cheers,
S

Schickts mir gerne.....

Vielen lieben Dank see yaa

Ps: hier ungefähr ist es passiert also siehe Foto oben...

Do Berlin locals actually go to KitKat, or is it mostly tourists these days?

I went to KitKat for the first time last year, and it was honestly a pretty eye-opening and fun experience.
I didn’t participate in any of the sexual activities myself, but I really appreciated the atmosphere and how liberal and non-judgmental the place felt. It was one of those rare environments where it seemed like people could dress however they wanted, express their sexuality however they wanted, and as long as everything was consensual and respectful, nobody was giving anyone side-eye.
That sense of freedom was probably the most interesting part of the experience for me.
It did make me curious, though: do people who actually live in Berlin regularly go to KitKat, or has it become more of a tourist/expat destination?
For Berliners, what do you think of KitKat? Is it still considered a genuine part of Berlin’s club and sex-positive culture, or is it more of a place visitors go to experience the “wild Berlin” they’ve heard about?

My honest review of a week in Berlin (including first time KitKat experience)

Hi everyone, I'm writing this for people like myself - who tend to overthink a little and look up other people's experience as a way to relate to the world. So I hope this helps, or puts some things into perspective for you. No AI spellcheck or anything like that so prepare for some grammarfaults :p

A little info about me (40M) and my partner (35F pres as nonbinary) : We went to stay with friends who live in Spandau. We are all Belgians, speaking Dutch. From the appartment we did pretty much all transport with metro/tram/train/bus and 2 times we called an uber because we got to split it with 5 people.
Both me and my partner work in a social field, caring for people with an activist touch.
We can live comfortably, but don't have a lot of money, because of the field we are working in.
To have some more personal background about us: before we went to our first hedonistic/fetisj club we have a steady relationship of 15 years together, through ups and downs. Married 3 years ago. We have been polyamorous, dated different people, dated together and been to a swinger/sex club already and are both bisexual/pansexual. I think those things really were crucial for our experience in Kitkat.

We arrived sunday, too tired to go out from the travel. Went out to get some kebab in Spandau. Good meat but dissapointing sauces. We tried our best to speak a little German everywhere (Belgium is tri-lingual) but people were quick to respond in English.
Monday we looked for something to do and got around the city, we did the rooftop bar at Klunkerkranich. To my surprise we had to pay entrance just to drink something there.
Amazing view though, so I soothed my conscience with that. No real DJ or performance, so tbh I thought 7 euro's was a little bit much for that. Afterwards we headed to Madame Claude to see what's up there. Granted we didn't do much research, so we were open for everything.
Entrance was donation between 2 and 10 €, you could choose. There was a DJ spinning some pretty melancholic tunes with a definite "afterparty" vibe that reminded me of the many artsy skatevideo's I grew up seeing in the 2000's.
Definitely fun hang there with all of my friends, and it reminded us of our hometown cafe vibes.
One thing I would like to say is that the staff wasn't that nice to us, and I don't know why. Maybe because it was monday? Maybe they had a bad day?
Overall we were all under the impression -except for a few experiences- that most of the staff of (almost) everywhere we went hates their job or is just a little 'hautain' to strangers. I got reminded of my times being in Paris too often.

Tuesday me and my friends did a karaoke at home. Before that we went to Liquidrom for a great spa experience, price/quality is on point there! We had amazing food at a Tex Mexico (mole verde was legit!) in the evening and margaritas for €3,9. Can't go wrong with that.

Wednesday we first had a few drinks at the Janowits beach bar to warm up. Great setting but the cocktails were not my thing. Me and my partner went to KitKat club, while our other friends spent the night in Tresor - which is around the corner.
We were a little stressed about the outfits, though they were obviously kinky but no leather. And yes we both got commented on that by the bouncer "next time in lederhosen". But we got in! Payed €25 entrance each.
Once inside there was a very nice lady taking our bags and storing it (which is free). You can get items out of there but prepare for some judgment lol. There was a big discrepancy between our experience with basically everyone attending and the staff.

Except for the nice lady at the beginning, I have never, ever experienced such a rude staff and totally inexcusable shitty behavior from someone working in a venue before. We have done everything from mainstream festivals to free party tekno, smaller and big clubs but never, ever have we been treated like this. For a club that wants people to feel safe (and equal?) this stood out like a very sore painpoint for the entire night.
From a pitbull-esque bouncer that closed one of the rooms by yelling at people, to a bartender that started cursing and throwing shit on the ground because he messed up the drink order. We were shocked more than once.

Me and my partner tried to move on as fast as we could and focused on the music and the people. We quickly met a very nice bunch and they showed us around, and it wasn't long until we ended up in one of the playrooms. Throughout the night we got the feeling that we finally could be free and we embodied one of our kinks which is putting up a good show for people :)
People were really respectful. I remember one guy coming next to me, complementing and asking if was okay if he touched himself while he watched.
The night progressed, we met more and more people, shared stories, laughs, tears.
It was very different from the swinger/sex clubs we experienced before. A lot of international crowd from all over the world, felt much like a goa festival to us!

The artwork and decoration was right up our alley (we are psytrance lovers) and the vibe was more open. You can have sex there, but it's definitely not necessary or expected to have a great time. I'm glad we went as a couple though, I don't necessarily know if going as one or two women solo gets you the same safe experience as we had to one time physically push a guy away that was trying to "get on" without our consent!
The music was hard techno and a kind of progressive psytrance that was new to my ears. Suited the vibe and the club very well.
Our friends in Tresor had an amazing time and we met up afterwards with them. They came clothed in pretty much their usual psy-pirate outfit and told us everyone was very nice in the venue, staff included!

Thursday we had to rest, haha. Eventhough people always think I'm 30 because my babyface I'm 40 and I felt that. I was pretty dehydrated and my muscles were sore. Kitkat was VERY hot and we sweat more than in the sauna before. Both me and my partner were like in the afterglow of a hallucinogenic substance or a rebirthing of some kind. Magical!

Friday we ate out at Kebab with Attitude. My personal best kebab every, had the truffle one and the flavors were on point. Also, I'm kind of sensitive to a few ingredients and the restaurant staff was very accomodating to these needs. Much ahead of the curve, here in Belgium it's sometimes still difficult to see ingredients or allergens.
After that we headed out to VOID club. Drum and bass was my first real electronic music love, and I found it hasn't lost it's charm to me in the 26 years listening.
This was absolutely the greatest club experience I have ever had and it was in stark contrast to how the staff of KitKat acted. People behind the bar, entrance, dj's.... all were SO amazingly friendly, down to earth, open for a real chat, real connection.
The music was great and we stayed in the dnb room for the entire night. Soundsystem was super on point, could listen and experience it at fullest without my earplugs. The sets evolved from mellow liquid dnb to hard neurofunk in the end, with some sprinkles of gabba and hardtekno.
I danced like there was no tomorrow.
We left with stars in our eyes! Took the U back to Spandau and even though it was over an hour's drive, that too was a great experience. Seeing Berlin wake up, all the ravers, people from different backgrounds, working people... all together.
There seemed to be a lot of tolerance for eachother. In general we always felt pretty safe roaming around the streets. Much safer than we feel in Belgian cities like Brussels or Antwerp (by night).

Saturday we wanted to go to the rave parade, but only two hours of sleep and a scorching tropic temperature prevented us from going out. Saw some of it on the livestream while I slipped in and out of consciousness and a blissful after-state :)
In the evening, we all went to the beautiful Odeon theater to watch The Oddysee together as our last thing as a group.

All in all we didn't spend that much money. Most of our budget went to transport/food and drinks and some of the local artwork we bought.

It was my second time in Berlin, and each time I take a little bit with me home. The experiences are engrained in me. I integrate it in my music productions. I think about it everytime I travel somewhere else.
We as a couple had a lifechanging moment and we will always have this as a standard for what it means to really travel and expand the horizon.
Forever grateful to everyone we met, and all the people in the history of this great city that worked towards making this city what it is now.

KitKat this friday

My fiancée and I would like to go out partying this Friday. Whenever we’re in Berlin, we usually go to KitKat. We’ve now seen that the Revolver party is taking place upstairs, while the Psycho Girls party is downstairs in the basement.
Do the two parties stay completely separate all night, or is there a certain point when you’re allowed to move freely between them?
If not, are the parties still worth going to?
And would we feel out of place at Revolver as a bi couple?

Looking for people to go to KitKat with — first timer

Hey everyone!

I'm a 37M Asian guy living in Germany, and I'm planning to visit KitKatClub Berlin for the first time soon.

I don't speak German and I've never been to KitKat before, so I'm honestly a little nervous about the door policy, dress code and general etiquette. 😅

I love music, dancing and sexuality, and the combination of all three at KitKat sounds like something completely new and exciting that I've never experienced before. That's a big part of why I'd really like to go

I'd love to find 1–3 friendly people who already know the club and wouldn't mind having a first-timer join them. I'm respectful, easy-going and would be happy to meet beforehand for a coffee or drink and get to know each other.

If you're planning to go soon, especially this Friday or Saturday, I'd love to join!

Feel free to DM me. 🙏

Electric Monday at Kit Kat tonight - any tips and outfit advice

Hi all - my gf and I are about to arrive in Berlin and are planning to go to Kit Kat tonight. We have bought tickets and are very excited.

She is planning to wear lingerie, and I am planning to go shirtless with black trousers or black shorts. If need be, also I’d be happy to just wear my underwear. For shoes, we had planned to buy some combat boots and also some kinky accessories in Berlin, but we have been delayed and it looks like everything will be closed when we arrive. Will I be ok given it is a Monday wearing black sneakers? Can she wear sneakers or maybe black ballet flats?

Any other tips for first timers going there on a Monday?

Update: Thanks for all the responses. As expected, no issue with me wearing black adidas sneakers or my gf wearing leopard print adidas sneakers. I was shirtless and in black trousers, and she wore a slip and a skirt. Had a fun time, including having sex a few times on the couches. Overall not a bad vibe, although we expected there to be more explicit sex going on - we were definitely in the minority. Will go again on a non-Monday night.

Tips for what to do

Hiii, so I've been partying a lot and I am a bit antisocial when I do it. Many of you may have seen me from time to time. When I go out with my friends, they usually do the socialising part. However, I just go through. I dance till the end of it all. And then find my friends again with some new friends that they made. Recently I've been trying to socialise by talking to strangers, sharing things etc.

My problem is with girls I kind of like, and I know they like me too. While dancing it's kinda obvious, entering my space, gaze etc etc, guys too. I look very confusing. So I can understand.

I come from a place, where all my ex's, and the woman in my life have gone through very severe traumas regarding men. I hate it, and I carry it with me. They have gone through horrible things, and this is why I do not approach girls or disturb them when they party, for my want of intimacy. And now, because of this I have purposely avoided many interesting and really cute girls by not approaching them. I like to give them a safe space to dance around me. But sometimes I do kinda want to approach but my heart stops me from doing this remembering where I come from.

I want to learn how to change this. Slowly.

Ahhhh, I always regret later that I didn't approach a girl that's obviously into me 😭. Like so beautiful and interesting. 😭😭😭

Also why is it that no one uses their words. Like just say something please lol. Is it cause I don't look like I want to talk, I have a very blank face and non expressive face (I think).

So yeah strange problem, but please help.

Also should get this antisocial dancing t-shirt haha.

My experience comes from everywhere, rso/tresor/else/Utg Parties, etc.

23m.

Is that a thing? Or was it a polite reject?

Berlin on 11 and 12 September if you don't like techno and and like meeting friendly people

Don't judge:), but I don't like techno/House/hip-hop. I like everything from Indie to chansons via Jazz.

I found a Punk/New Wave party at Club Franzz on Friday, 11 September, and Haven Bar looks cheesy but fun. Basically, I like places where people dance, laugh, and chat in the 30-50-year range. I understand German but don't speak it well. Any other recommendations?

A good Chanson/Folk/Jazz bar might also be of interest, but it has to be a bit lively. Don't think these are present in Berlin

AI keeps recommending Clärchens Ballhaus, but I don't see why. Just seems like a restaurant with dance lessons during the week

Answering Newbie Questions on Berlin Clubbing

Edit: Receiving quite a lot of DMs - will stay active in this thread.

Hey,

I’m a 33 year old English cis male with a dad bod, no piercings or tattoos who travels to Berlin twice a year to go exclusively clubbing, meet amazing people, practise my German and blow of steam. I have been in everywhere (worth going) and actually
took some newcomers I met at my hostel with me this time as I usually go solo and haven’t been rejected from anywhere in a very long time.

I got back a couple of days ago and during my
Hostel stay, I was bombarded with questions about what to wear, how to get into places and where to go. It was interesting seeing how many people were being rejected on easy doors and how many people were genuinely clueless when it came to etiquette and what to expect.

I am not some ‘Berlin expert’ but it made me happy to see people taking a few tips and getting into places they wanted to go.

So as I’m bored, I figured I would make a post for those who are maybe new or unsure to help them get the most out of their trip.

So if you’re interested, drop a comment below and I’m happy to give my two cents.

And no don’t DM me for ‘numbers’ or to get you into Berghain, this is strictly for newcomers and how to get your feet wet.

And Jesus fucking Christ please don’t go to the Matrix: you’re worth so much more.
