Poor kid tried standing in the rain to see the band after snow in Jersey😭

He had to leave after his mom said it was taking too long, I was with him for about an hour after show ended till we gave up

BTW: none of us are mad at the band at all, they were likely watching the England World Cup match or waiting for the rain itself to stop.

Show was spectacular, I came from Brazil and it was so worth it

help determining music recs from band members

i asked every member "whats a band, musician, or album thats more esoteric or underground that you dont think gets enough attention?" (and for their signatures obv). only handwriting thats mine is "dear alien" (writing down a rec from i think lewis) and fixing culting -> culter.

i know Ivor Cutler was from May (who wrote Ivor Cutling, ran to get their phone, then told me the correction that i made) and Sayagray-19 Masters (might be spelling that wrong) is from Georgia. help would be appreciated!!

Favorite song played live off forever howlong

So i just saw bcnr live recently in madison and ive been thinking about my favorite song off the album for them to play live. For me its probably for the cold country or Happy birthday. But i also thought their cover of the ballad of el goodo was really good but thats not off the album, all in all they sounded great. What do you guys think is your favorite

What is the “clamp” that Isaac refers to?/ What does it mean?

Just noticed that he mentions it in a couple songs, not sure if this has been brought up before, if it has I’m sorry.

two of my favourite songs ever are concorde and basketball shoes. does anybody have recommendations?

I listened to ants from up there at the beginning of the year and nothing I have heard since has lived up to it, it's the best thing i've heard since the new sound, I think I actually like it more... I listen to it almost every single day on the walk to and from uni, cant get enough of it! it makes an hour feel like five minutes...

these two songs are my favourites off it, and just in general. does anybody have recs?

i really like issacs voice, and in basketball shoes i like how its, like, progressive(?) its like three really good songs in one, with such a cilmax. in concorde I like the overall story of the song, and the way issac says the lyrics, but one thing I like about bcnr in general is how they have like jazz/classical instruments, if that makes sense? I also like the place where he inserted the blade

RYM Greatest Albums Of All Time: #477 Black Country, New Road-For The First Time (2021)

Synopsis:

When British seven-piece ensemble Black Country, New Road dropped their debut album For the first time in early 2021, they immediately cemented themselves at the absolute absolute forefront of the modern post-punk renaissance. Emerging from the same Windmill Brixton scene that birthed bands like black midi and Squid, BC,NR arrived with a sound that felt less like a traditional rock band and more like a chaotic, highly calculated chamber orchestra.

Review:
The album opens with "Instrumental" Heavily inspired by traditional Eastern European klezmer music and minimalist post-rock, the song is built around a driving, hypnotic drumbeat and a looping, syncopated keyboard line. Evans' saxophone and Georgia Ellery's violin weave around one another as drummer Charlie Wayne and Bassist Tyler Hyde create a foundation that feels like a sturdy base for the chaotic ride the tracks evolve into. “Anthens, France” is built on this dense math-rock groove. It is a reworking of one of the first singles the band released taking out some of the more explicit content the band no longer felt comfortable performing. The song flows in waves of high and low inspiration but post-punk and avant garde you feel like you are just gliding alone in this massive journey.  “Science Fair” begins with this needling bassline and distorted guitar feedback before it explodes in this abrasive wall of noise. The song describes a disastrous encounter with a girl at a science fair Isaac Wood’s spoken word vocal delivery gets more distress and maniac and the band follows suit as you feel the narrator getting more agitated as he falls into despair and madness.  “Sunglasses” is a ten-minute masterclass in indie post-rock dominance. It feels very claustrophobic at times as we get a handful of massive math-rock  and post-rock grooves. In the middle of the song it changes courses and brings in some melodic energy that seems to come in waves. The track changes courses again as it ends in an explosion of a massive blast of chaotic energy.  “Track X” lowers the tension of the previous track. Trading in the abrasive wall of noise for a gentle slow minimalism. It will be the closest thing the band will have to a love song. Wood’s vocals sound fragile and tender. As the band moves along in this angelic wave that feels so lush. Georgia Ellery (Volin) and May Kershaw (keyboards) provide the faint backing vocals that complete the song’s quiet energy. The album closes with “Opus” revisits many of the themes of the opening track “Instrumental” with that heavy  post-rock mixed in with avant jazz hybrid wall of sound. The track levels in and out of density and then quiet melodic movements. Before one last blast of energy before it loses steam and just disappears into the abyss.
Final  Thoughts:

This is a massive debut from one of the best artists that emerged in this decade. It is a masterclass of post-rock melodic energy. One of the best debut albums of the century. If you haven’t heard this great piece of  Avant Garde art rock mastery please put it on your bucket list soon.

Who is screaming at the end of Basketball Shoes?

The ah-AH-ah part sounds like Isaac, then there's someone going WOOOO (I think) and then there's a final "RAWWWRO" to close it out (strangely similar sounds also happen at the end of It's Time by Imagine Dragons)

Who are the people making these noises? and is it possible that some of them could be saxophone or guitar? I've been thinking about this for almost 3 years
