Being lesbian parents in Bozeman?

My partner and I are a lesbian couple (both 33F). We are starting the IVF process and ready to settle down and have kids. My parents live in Bozeman and we have some other family there too. I lived in Bozeman from 2011-2013 before I was out and don't remember it being particularly friendly to gay people but not homophobic either. We are currently living in Portland, OR and have no support system here and hate the gloomy winters. Lifestyle-wise I think Bozeman is perfect for us. We are outdoorsy, love to hike, etc.

Any LGBTQ people in this group, especially if you are a parent, that can weigh in on your overall experience? We don't want our kids to be bullied for having gay parents or feel ostracized from the community.

Pond Doctor Golf Scammer

Kyle Jones AKA the Pond Doctor, claimed to be a members son at a local private club, in order to scam his way into multiple rounds over years.

We finally caught him. Over the last two weeks he showed up to the driving range, seemingly friendly and always engaging with employees with a smile. He introduced himself to me under a last name pseudonym, trying to connect himself with a member.

When he would show up to the course, he would never set foot in or around the clubhouse. He would go straight to the cart barn, grab himself a cart and backup range balls we would have stored there. Then he’d head to the range and try to blend in.

After showing up multiple times in a matter of days, we started to catch on. Our pro confronted him and asked if he was a member. He replied that he was. But the member name was different than his last name (which we only saw by looking at his placard in his car which said Jones). Then he tried to say his name was hyphenated with the member last name. These members were social members meaning they could only use the range when they had a tee time and were limited to three rounds a summer.

We reached out to the main member on the membership and it turns out this guy was NEVER on the membership, and in fact had been posing as the members son. He somehow got his pond doctor phone number into the system under the son’s name, and had been playing rounds up here for at least three summers.

We had a member event and he was on the range and we told him the course was closed. When we went to check Tom’s 10 to pull the pins for the night, he was out there playing. Again with a smile he tried to plead ignorance and we said to speed it up and finish.

It sucks we took this long to catch this guy. But BEWARE. He is nothing but a no good con artist and a fraud.

Kountz is at it again!!!

Just like Dayle Kountz his kids are no different. They could care less about animals. These poor swans have lived in this pond on the property for years and now one has passed and the mate swims near its body all day and night not leaving its side. Its been upside down in the pond for weeks! Its been reported to everyone you can think of and no one cares! Not that long Dayle was caught leaving a very injured horse in a stall for weeks slowly dying now his kids are acting the same way. Absolutely disgusting!

Speakerphone in Public

Hey, some of y'all need to realize this: not everyone in a public place wants to hear your random phone conversations.

I am currently in Spitz to enjoy my lunch break and some dork is two booths behind me on speakerphone, *loudly* talking with a woman at a mechanic shop and *loudly* giving out personal information.

Don't do that shit lmfao.

Anyone Know a Good Oral Surgeon?

My niece is on her way to MSU from TX to start her freshman year, & her wisdom teeth started hurting & bleeding. She saw a dentist today in Jackson, WY. They gave her some antibiotics & told her to get them removed ASAP. I was just wondering if anyone in the Bozeman community has any recommendations, because we were not prepared for this. TIA

Help a gal out

Hello! Thought I would try here to get some insight😭 Apartment office bugging about furniture in my car garage, anyone know who to contact to get rid of them? Old furniture complete garbage but they don’t want any near the big trash bins outside😢 I’m also very tight on money sadly.

Anyone know where to find some mossy twigs?

I’m doing a project and could use a couple of mossy sticks or twigs and was wondering if anyone knew of some particularly mossy areas like a park or something where I could pick some up off the ground?

PSA

Hey everyone who drives a car in Bozeman, I just wanted to let you know that if you're first in line at a stop light, especially in the left turn lane, the sensors won't detect you if you're too far behind the stop bar. This makes the light go to a flashing yellow arrow instead of a green arrow, and can cause an entire line of cars to have to wait through another light cycle. This is not a particularly good thing to have happen, especially during the busier times of the day!

Anyone know what these are?!?

They started coming into our bathroom from outside and then just dying. They seem to like the sink area. A couple days later and I can find them in almost every room in the house if I look for them. Not as obvious as this but still everywhere.

What do we gotta do to get some sort of intersection or roundabout or something here? You can spend over 10 minutes at a stop sign if its busy and enough people or a large truck are trying to turn left. I know you can go other ways but come on you can't always see the magnitude of the stop light line until its too late.

Quintessential Bozeman Crosswalk Debate

We’ve been having a debate about what intersections/crosswalks drivers are required to yield to pedestrians at. Obviously if the driver has a stop sign or it is a marked crosswalk, the driver must yield. However, what about through-roads that are intersected by side streets with 2 way stops? Think Durston, Oak, 8th Ave, and Wilson. Some of those ‘intersections’ are marked as crosswalks across the thoroughfare but others are not. Are the unmarked crossings still defined under ‘intersections’ and thus the pedestrian has the right-of-way?

If this is the case, why did they decide to paint some of the intersections and not others? Why are some crosswalks labeled with signs and lights and others just paint on the road?

It would appear counterproductive to sign some crosswalks heavier than others, which would make drivers disregard other crosswalks and intersections because they don’t view them as crosswalks.

(It’s hard to get good satellite images of some other road examples due to all of the trees!)

Edit: I was hoping for some clarification on 2-way stops specifically and a candid discussion on signage of crosswalks in the community but seems I have hit a nerve with some. Sorry to disrupt this perfectly wholesome sub-reddit and hope you all have a great day!

Moped Being a Menace to Society

While at a red light on Durston and 7th heading East (where Durston becomes Peach), this scooter cut every car by going in the bike lane and then merged back into the flow of traffic. I happened to be heading to Wild Crumb, and arrived to find them pulling onto the side walk and eventually parking it in the grass.

AITA or is this absolutely insane behavior? I understand lane splitting is allowed on two lane roads, but going the bike lane and then driving on the sidewalk/private lawn are both illegal and just a completely inconsiderate and unsafe thing to do.

Edit: it is technically a scooter, apparently. I was unaware of the distinction.

Support Groups - DV

Hi Bozeman.

I’m wondering if there are any survivors of domestic violence in the community who find themselves wishing we had more in-person community support. There are so many of us who have experienced domestic violence, and, at the same time, it can be one of the most isolating experiences. I think I’d benefit from an in-person support group, and I imagine others feel the same way, whether their experience happened years or months ago or is ongoing.

If enough people are interested in this type of support group, I’m hoping I could find a space for us all to meet and support each other.

I’m asking this question here because I have explored the locally available options. Haven is an amazing resource for certain situations, and I’m grateful we have it. However, their support group is limited to a virtual option, and that simply isn’t as helpful as meeting other survivors in person. In my opinion, the way people support each other in person is dramatically different from being online. If there is an in-person support group for survivors of domestic violence that I have not been made aware of, please share.

If you don't have anything kind or relevant to say, please just scroll on.

Feel free to message me if you are interested but uncomfortable commenting.
