Bozeman Area Fatal or Suspected Serious Injury Vehicle Crashes from 2020 to 2024

In a previous post from a couple of months ago, I pointed out how difficult MDT made it to obtain useful crash data. I made a Public Information Request (PIR) for 10 years of statewide data with useful attributes. In response, MDT added useful attributes to the existing public data covering a five-year period located here: https://www.mdt.mt.gov/publications/datastats/crashdata.aspx

Whereas, previously, you could only get point locations for a crash with no additional contextual attributes, you can now see the crash severity along with other attributes that make the data significantly more useful and insightful. For the additional five years of data they wanted to charge for it, even though they frequently provide this data to engineering firms for free and I know for a fact that it only takes a few minutes to construct a SQL query to pull the data.

I'm working with this data for a web-based project but, with the recent child fatality involving a vehicle and a bicycle, I wanted to put together a quick cartographic product for the public to see.

The line segment colors indicate the number of fatal or suspected serious injury accidents along that segment. The point locations show the reported location and indicate whether it was pedestrian or bicycle-involved. The density of data is high and the best way to present this data is through a web map application that users can explore so please pardon any difficulty in reading the map or any cartographic issues. It was put together very quickly.

Spectrum's advertised 1gb/s Internet Service only averages 329mb/s and barely ever breaks past 600mb/s

I made a Python script that logs my internet speed every 15 minutes using Task Scheduler. I ran the script for just over 24 hours and the results for the download speed performance are shown in the graph. I called Spectrum to address the issue and they directed me to their own speed test that only tests the speed against their dedicated (optimal) server to make you think you're getting a faster service. The server used for the internet you actually get varies. There were over 11 different servers used over this period and you cannot control which server is used. The modem I use can handle 1gb/s service and this was run on ethernet not wifi.

Spectrum (aka Charter) 1gb/s Internet Service only averages 331mb/s and hardly ever surpasses 600mb/s

This was tested over ethernet, not wifi. The modem used is rated for 1gb/s service. When tested on Spectrum's selected server it can reach around 900mb/s but the actual service you get in use is what you see in the graph.

Check your engine if this is your vehicle

Saw this little guy in N 17th Ave outside the condos south of the trailer park. When I approached, it went inside the engine block. It might be making a living in there.
