I want to take my girlfriend to a nice restaurant for her birthday(mid august)

My girlfriend really likes Chinese cuisine particularly and I know she is roughly into most asian cuisines whether korean, japanese or chinese. Ive done some research and came up with a few restaurants in Brisbane i think might be appropriate. I want it to be more than just nice food, I want it to be an all encompassing experience so if anyone has experience in these places, I'd love to know your thoughts.

Restaurants:

- Donna Chang

- Suum

- Black hide caxton st

- Exhibition

- Yoko Dining

- Joy

I know its a weird mix, since some of these are way more expensive than others, but the main point is i wanna hear anecdotes as sometimes just looking at the menu doesnt tell the whole picture. I appreciate any responses!

Lebanese street food

I miss King Ahiram’s so much. The meat pastries. The lentils. But particularly the kebabs made with proper meat or felafel and real salad rather than the gross rotisserie kebabs at chain places. Any recommendations for places that are like the old King Ahiram?

What kind of restaurant, bar or supermarket do you think is missing in Brisbane?

Do you have a type of venue you have visited in the world, or in Australia, that you would hope to see in Brisbane?

What's the one Brisbane restaurant you always recommend when someone says, Take me somewhere good?

Every city has that one place you confidently recommend because you know it's consistently good. Not necessarily the fanciest or newest, just somewhere you'd happily take friends or family without worrying.

My disgusting experience with Nandos

Last Saturday night, i decided to dine in at a Nando’s location in Brisbane. I attempted to order food off the table QR code. Once the order was put through I waited about 20 minutes before checking the status of the order. I then noticed it had changed to a store in Melbourne (I had previously used this exact same QR code with no issues and got my drink).

Once I decided to take it up with customer care that evening, the attendant told me it had been escalated. After I heard nothing and decided to follow up, I was stonewalled for the first three days. Excuses we used such as can you repeat the orders email, store, table it were to (I had provided all this information to them three days prior). They then informed me today that they have a policy that once the food starts cooking, they can’t refund the order. I’ve been mucked around for almost a week now and they refused me my money back after all that hassle+BLATANTLY LIED about escalation. I escalated the situation with my bank, hopefully they can help me out.

Just don’t bother people.

Dinner with kids

Sorry for the millionth post regarding dinner options!

So tomorrow is our last night in Brisbane and looking at options. I have a 9 yo and 12 yo who are reasonably adventurous. Already been to Sage Yellowfish (yeah, I know. First night rookie error!) Julius, Danbo ramen and Hello Please. I would love to go to Marlowe but it’s booked up. Southside looks fun but too late to book i think. Any suggestions around Fish lane would be so greatly appreciated!

Looking for fellow appreciators of a nice dinner ✨

Hello!

Early thirties female currently going through the breakdown of a long term relationship and don’t have a huge social circle to plan enough regular things to keep me busy. So I’m putting a call out for a fellow diner or two, as I’m missing getting dressed up and going out for nice dinners.

My go to spots are on James St and the surrounding area and I’m open to dining with both males and females. Please note: I’m not looking to date, I’m just looking to have great dinners (where the requirement is that you cover your own costs) that break up the week and is something to look forward to for both parties.

About me:

A normal full-time employed person first and foremost. A little bit creative, likes photography and the theatre/stage productions, appreciative of all music, bit of a car appreciator, big foodie, loves to listen to people speak about things they’re passionate about, can hold conversation, I might have a wine with dinner but I’m not a big drinker and can skip if you don’t drink, I see value in pricier dining experiences or activities and really enjoy them, I’m relaxed and very open different personalities and perspectives in life too. Open to midweek or Saturday evenings.

Restaurant recs

My fiance and I are getting eloped in August, and looking for a good restaurant recommendation for us and our roughly (12) guests to have a nice dinner to celebrate afterwards. Looking for something nice, not too pricey, but still brings the fun vibes.
*bonus points if you can split the bill*

Recommendation for a place with excellent steak & some vegetarian options

As the title says: seeking recommendations for somewhere that has amazing steak but ideally also some vegetarian options that are not just sides. Slightly fancy is good, it’s for my husband’s birthday and I would like him to enjoy the experience.

We are north side but I’m happy to chauffeur him around where needed.

Brisbane Food Trucks; Free advice

I want to start off this post by saying: I am saying this with love because id love to see more of Brisbane night life and see more businesses run!!

Lately I’ve been noticing many of Brisbanes food trucks are having grand openings as their FIRST initial opening. In an area that already has foot traffic, I think it’s good to consider to first open the business softly before doing a grand opening; to test the waters, test your business operation.

Many consumers avoid grand openings because they know that lines will be long causing long wait times, food quality can decrease, and therefore they avoid it overall.

This is what tends to happen for businesses if they do grand openings as their first opening: If lines are long, customers will be having long wait times. That is inevitable. When staff is rushing orders there is a high chance the food quality will decrease, unfortunately. Taking orders might pause for a while, line ends up not moving, food going out is slowing down. Customers see this and will decide to leave, or will be very disappointed with the food when they do end up receiving it. Also, there’s high chance food will sell out before the next customer orders.

This means that customers who have been waiting for a while, ends up not getting food will be left disappointed.

Adding on with a decrease in food quality, this would lead a word of mouth where potential customers will hear feed back and decide to not come to your food truck (for at least a duration of time before trying again) as they hear food quality is not the best and not worth waiting for.

Side note: food businesses may have good days and bad days. I always keep that in mind as a customer going to restaurants. Even in some of my favourite places, the food doesn’t taste the same (sometimes I think it’s me, maybe I wasn’t feeling it for the day).

I think it’s important for businesses to keep track of stock whilst in operation, have a manual/operations book, to understand what they are going to do when there is a large amount of customers.

I would designate one person to count how many customers are lining up, give them a ticket number, to ensure the business has enough food for customers.

If the business is running into a dilemma, announce it clear.

Do your best to keep the line moving, and the food moving.

Having a more organised opening, would only do your better, and for customers to come back. Word of mouth is a real mechanism, and is important to keep food quality in check and business mannerism!

Just wanted to pass this because me and my friends had experience long waits for a grand opening (2+ hours) just to end up leaving because we didn’t see food getting past out and that the line stopped moving. Later on when we were at another restaurant, we heard from a couple people that the food quality was not good. We are unsure if we will end up ever visiting the food truck again.

So yes, I think this topic is very important!!

All the best for business owners out there.

Birthday and wedding anniversary dinner recommendations

Hi all, looking for some advice!

I’m in Brisbane for work and based in the CBD. My partner is joining me this weekend which happens to coincide with her birthday and our one year wedding anniversary.

I’ve only been here a couple of weeks so I’m not too familiar with what’s good and what’s around. As such, I’m looking for advice on dinner recommendations.

Looking for somewhere nice with good service, relatively open on cuisine type. Maybe not seafood heavy is the only caveat.

Ideally somewhere walking distance or generally not too far from the CBD. So open to the CBD itself, Southbank, West End, and Fortitude Valley.

Please send your recommendations. Thank you in advance!

Ps. Brisbane is pretty awesome!

Where to find chocolate or cheese coated potato chips in Brisbane?

Does anyone know where I can find chocolate covered potato chips or the potato chips with the cheese sauce on them in the Brisbane area? I am in Logan but am willing to travel anywhere. The calbee melts with the cheese seem to have been discontinued so that's not an option anymore.

Pies

Hit me with the best family size pies in Brisbane. Sweet and savoury. No big chains - bakeries or independent pie shops only.

I’ve had muzzas pies in Coorparoo and been impressed but surely there’s something better

Edit - have also tried stones corner artisan bakery inside rock n roll deli in greenslopes and on 8 attempts across sweet and savoury, have found nothing but regret and disappointment

Suggestions for fine vegetarian dining?

I love fine dining but I always feel so disappointed with the vegetarian options available in Brisbane. Often the vego options at casual restaurants are better than at fancy restaurants. I find that fine dining restaurants have a tendency to forget that vegetarians also enjoy a nutritionally complete meal (eg cauliflower is not a protein).

So far the best I’ve found is Rogue but looking for alternatives. Deer Duck was average. Dan Arnold was poor. Bacchus varied but is now closed.

I am not vegan.

So, with that said, where can I find delicious vegetarian food in a high end setting, that doesn’t leave me hungry after finishing my meal?

Or should I just stick with the casual restaurants dedicated to vegos and give up on fine dining?

Best spots for solo dining where you don't feel awkward

I have a few hours to kill by myself before a show next week and want a proper sit-down meal rather than just grabbing takeaway. Looking for somewhere with great bar seating where the staff are attentive and you can just enjoy a glass of wine and a couple of plates in peace
