Nottingham knockers (BR1/Southborough)

just a PSA to alert people that these folks are doing the rounds.

one of them's just come to our house and my mum answered the door, heard his story about him being ex-military (allegedly), and paid £10 for a packet of microfibre cloths. 5 minutes later, another one came by, but she turned him away.

call me paranoid, but we've had a few of these visitors in recent years, as well as several burglaries on our street. this is apparently a common way for criminals to case a house and identify where might be a good target.

if you know any vulnerable people in the area then maybe give them a heads up.

Safe living near Bromley South?

Looking at properties within walking distance of Bromley South station, e.g on/around the high street, Elmfield Road, etc. Any insight on safety? Does it feel safe walking after dark? I’ve seen conflicting reports from good reviews from residents but high crime reports.

Anyone know Glentrammon Road area.is the traffic/noise as bad as it seemed on a quick visit?

Looking at a house on Glentrammon Road (BR6, near Chelsfield/Green Street Green). Visited in person with wife and it felt like there was a fair bit of traffic passing directly in front of the house — cars moving at a decent speed, not really slowing for a residential road.

A few things I'm trying to figure out before making an offer:

  • Does Glentrammon Road get used as a cut-through/rat-run between other roads, or is it mostly local traffic?
  • Is it noticeably busier at certain times (school run, rush hour) vs generally quiet?
  • Does the traffic noise carry into the houses, or is it mostly a pavement-level thing?
  • Anyone actually live on or near this road who can share what it's really like day-to-day?

Trying to weigh it up against another place on a proper cul-de-sac nearby, so any first-hand knowledge of this specific road would be really helpful.

LB Bromley CEO is the second highest paid council CEO in England, yet the council has no money and cries poverty.

Council Leader Colin Smith loves telling everyone how Bromley Council has no money. This is despite the fact that Bromley Council CEO Ade Adetosoye is the second highest paid council CEO in England.

LB Bromley has closed Waldo Road waste tip for "refurbishment", has expensive privately run council leisure services, and always cries poverty.

Plenty of council tax money to splash on council execs who are presiding over this mess though.

Do I have a case against this penalty charge notice, box junction outside police station

Hello,

I have been sent a pcn for stopping in the box junction outside the police station.

The reason I had to stop as you can see in the pictures is due to the useless lady in the white mg crossing the lanes incorrectly and therefor blocking my path. I have sent an appeal to Bromley council. What are the chances they support what I’m saying. (I know they love money 💰…)

Buying in Hayes Bromley

We are currently living in a 2 bed flat in Wandsworth and looking to upsize. I narrowed down our top areas to Clock House / Beckenham and Hayes Bromley.

We can get more for our money in Hayes. It has less on the doorstep but better chances of getting into a strong secondary like Hayes School or Langley even. We don’t want to have to move again for secondary school.

I know it will be very different to what we are used to but we need a bigger home with 2 kids.

But I’m curious to know what it is actually like living in Hayes Bromley. What streets are nice and which areas to avoid?

What are the people like? Is it safe? How are the parks? With two young kids we spend our weekends playground and coffee hopping.

I am also partial to a good oat milk flat white 😅

Moving to London advice family of 4

Hi everyone! My family is planning to move to London next summer, and we’re starting to seriously look at areas to live in.
We’re looking for a 3-bedroom flat with a rental budget of around £2,300/month. We can potentially go a little higher for the right place, but we’d ideally like to stay around that amount. We also need good state schools nearby.
A bit about what we’re looking for:
We want somewhere urban, busy and modern rather than quiet/suburban.
We don’t really care about having a garden.
Good public transport is very important, especially because my mum will probably be working somewhere in London.
Ideally Zone 3, although we’re open to parts of Zone 4.
We want shops, restaurants, entertainment and things to do nearby.
We’d rather be close to London than live somewhere farther out just for a bigger house.
We want somewhere that feels lively and connected to London rather than a distant suburb.
We’ve been looking at Wembley/Wembley Park quite a lot and we really like the modern, busy atmosphere, apartments and transport connections. It’s probably our favorite so far.
We’ve also been considering Bromley, mainly because of the schools, space and value for money, but from pictures some parts look quite suburban/old compared with what we’re looking for. We’re particularly interested in whether Bromley town centre/Bromley South are noticeably more modern and lively.
So what other areas should we look at that fit our budget and preferences?
Would especially appreciate suggestions in Zones 3–4 that have:
Good state schools
3-bed flats around £2,300/month
Good transport into central London
Modern/urban feel
Lots of shops, restaurants and entertainment
Safe/family-friendly areas
And if you’ve lived in Wembley Park or Bromley, I’d especially love to hear what you actually think of them rather than just what the areas look like online.

Kitchen Renovation

Hi, I'm looking to start a kitchen renovation and looking for a trusted kitchen fitter/handyman who could do a full renovation.

I don't want to post on facebook as mostly people just promote their own business or family members.

If anyone has any good and reliable contacts that you personally used and recommend, please let me know. Thank you.
