Is it just the break in?
The gun is a Bul Blaze with 1985 rounds.
Today I cleaned the gun and noticed this wear mark.
Any thoughts?

I have 5 Bul pistols (and a 4.25” drop in non-ported barrel from DSC*). This essentially gives me the equivalent of 7 different Bul Armory SAS II guns.
I wanted to do as scientific a measurement as possible and compare the recoil (specifically muzzle rise) of these various pistols, so I set out to do that this morning at the range.
Setup - I have the MantisX10 training system (which I highly recommend by the way). For those who are unaware, it’s a small, highly sensitive Bluetooth movement tracker that attaches to your pic rail. It is capable of lots of awesome stuff, and one of the cool things you can do with this in live fire mode is the recoilmeter. This gives a bunch of interesting info for each shot, including the degrees of muzzle rise. For each pistol, I took 10 shots of Winchester white box 115gr fmj. I tried my best to make sure my grip and stance were as consistent as possible. Each gun was shot with a red dot mounted, but no lights or other accessories. The average muzzle rise results are below, from highest to lowest:
Ultralight - 23.8°
*TAC 4.25”- 20.1°
*EDC Compact - 19.9°
TAC 5”- 17.5°
EDC Pro Compact - 14.9°
TAC Pro 4.25” - 12.6°
TAC Comp - 11.8°
The results are mostly what I expected, with a few exceptions:
I’m surprised that the 4.25” TAC measured (very) slightly higher than the EDC compact. They are essentially tied, but I would have expected the TAC with its full length steel frame and full size grip to come in slightly better. I may have to re-measure those 2 on my next range trip.
The TAC Comp FEELS more than 0.8° “softer” than the 4.25” TAC Pro. Could this be in my head? Maybe - but it was corroborated by the range officers who shot a few of my guns also. Without measuring, I would have said that the comp was a major upgrade from the pro, based on feel. This says that at least when it comes to muzzle rise, they are closer than I would have thought. Obviously felt recoil isn’t only about muzzle rise, so I’m sure there are other things impacting this (overall weight and distribution, etc).
Anyway, just thought this was interesting and figured I’d share with the larger Bul Armory community.

EDC Compact 4.25”
And
SAS II Tac 4.25” (Silver)
The Tac Comp arrived today (from the drop 2 weeks ago).
Now my little family is complete. One for USPSA LO and one for GPA FSO and (if I ever shoot it again) IDPA CO.
Just need to slap an optic on the Tac Comp and go to the range.
I'm waiting for the 507 ProMax Green to be available. In the meantime, I have a Cyelee that is still BNIB to put on for now.
Fit and finish are step up from my edc pro from 2024 and that trigger is insane. Now I need to find 9mm ammo in fmj
I bought this Blaze less than a month ago and already shot 1615 rounds finding the sweet spot for springs with European commercial loadings since the gun was very snappy with 152 pf Fiocchi 124gr. Now I run a 13lb recoil spring and a 23lb main spring and is much better, I changed the thumb rest position and I think is the right setup (I’ll test it next week). The fun fact is that compared to my 5” Prodigy (12lb recoil and 23lb main) the Bul is faster cycling even with a heavier recoil spring.
Put my EDC all together for carry except the QVO Holster being made. Put some rounds down range at 7 and 10 feet l, single and double tap. The Steiner MPS is awesome and the 2 additional 20 round Mec-Gar magazines were flawless. Extremely happy with this rig.
Just got my first Bul Armory last week. I’m loving my EDC Pro 4.25 but curious how many of you guys have gotten yours DLC coated?
If ya’ll don’t mind reply with pictures and let’s see how great they look!
Thanks
I picked up my tac comp today and couldn’t be more excited! Didn’t notice anything at first at the store but when I got home I looked like what’s really looking like rust.
I was hoping it was maybe just caked up factory grease.
I used CLP and a microfiber cloth to try and get it off and I did get most of it but some is not coming off, and the finish still looks strange. Like it’s rust/pitting maybe?
Am I tweaking over the natural finish or is this actually rust.
First image is before the CLP/cloth and 2nd image is after.
I have a Bul Tac 5 that I purchased in 2025. Great gun.
I remember hearing Nightwood Guns say that when installing the magwell, to make sure you put a rubber band around the grip safety to ensure you didn't lose parts. Is this necessary? I assume if it is, it's hammer down. I'm relatively new to 1911/2011 pistols, thanks for any education.
Hi there
My first post here.
I have a new Bul tac 5” and it’s amazing. However, during IPSC drills I sometimes grip the gun so high and it seems I’m not pressing the safety grip and the trigger won’t work until I lower my grip a little bit lower. It happens once every 100-150 shots.
Any ideas how to solve this issue?
Many thanks in advance for your help
I have two questions.
I have a bul armory tac pro 4.25 with surefire x300 turbo and a tac comp with surefire x300 turbo I have a safariland 6354RDSO for a GP Arms Patriot 4.1. When I try the two Buls they dont really work well in that holster. I have to push forward pretty hard to make it lock. With the GPAms it slides right in.
Does anyone have any level 2 retention holster suggestions for the two buls that fit nicely with the surefire x300 turbo?
Does anyone have experience with the safariland holsters?
I dont care what brand just want something that works well.
Thank you for your help.
