Celpip re-evaluation

Celpip re-evaluation

I took my celpip exam on May 17 and got my results as L-9 R-10 W-9 S-11. I am thinking of applying for re-evaluation for writing. Do you think my scores will increase?. If it does i would get 3 more points in CRS
I know it doesn’t reduce the score. Does it?

Please share how you got 10 in CELPIP Speaking because I genuinely feel stuck at 8.

My second attempt scores were:
L: 10
R: 12
W: 10
S: 8

If I can just increase speaking to 9, my CRS score will jump from 494 to 514.

I used HZad’s speaking course and CELTestPip mocks, and I was even getting 9 in CELTestPip speaking evaluations, so I honestly thought I improved enough.

For people who got 9 or 10 in speaking:

  • What helped the most?
  • Did you focus more on fluency, pronunciation, confidence, or sounding natural?

Would really appreciate any advice because this score is the only thing holding me back now.
Edit: Had already done re evalvuation but no luck

First attempt: 12/12/11/10

I took the test last Saturday and got the results this morning! Tbh I didn’t expect these scores, so I was hoping I’d at least get 9 in all parts. I definitely didn’t feel super confident after the test. I guess it’s my fault, but I thought I could adjust the volume on my own. Somehow I couldn’t? Cos there was no volume bar to adjust in the question and the audio was way too loud, so it was hard to focus… and I wasn’t able to really call someone to help as the test had already started.

Anyway, the first part was a bit shaky, but I got my groove along the way. For me, the biggest hiccup was Part 7 of speaking. Omg I was literally rambling cos I couldn’t find two good supporting points lol, so I felt extremely frustrated. I thought I’d definitely be getting 7 or 8, but tbh I think I did okay except for Part 7, hence the Band 10.

I had ample time to prepare for this test, so I purchased a CELPIP official test bundle (7–13) and finished all of them. It helped me get familiar with the test format and questions. There were sample answers for 10–12 bands and tbh they don’t sound or seem that advanced imo, so I was a bit relieved that maybe their scoring could be generous?

Anyway, when I first prepared the test, I struggled with the writing part a lot, so I put immense effort into writing. For my writing answers, I had Gemini review them with revised versions (minimal revision, yet Band 10+ level answers). Tbh I mostly got 9, sometimes 10 from Gemini, so I believe AI scoring can be a bit conservative. If you get 8–9 from AI, I think you’d get 10+ in the real exam. In addition to this, CELPIP 9 Coach Carlson on YouTube was very helpful. I followed his writing structure for Part 2 and it was effective. He has no paid course, but his content is high quality, so I recommend checking it out.

Oh also, I took PTE Core a few days before CELPIP as I got perfect all 90 two years ago lol. But oh man, this time I got only 69/90/90/77 for PTE Core… and tbh I feel like the questions and exam quality are pretty bad. Of course it requires real English proficiency, but to me it’s more about how you can trick the AI to get a score
, so I’m glad I decided to go with CELPIP as well.

I hope everyone gets their desired scores, good luck 🍀

1st Attempt at CELPIP (with very minimal preparation) - Perfect Score 🎉

Took the exam 2 days ago and just got my results back! I should preface by saying that I’m a native English speaker as well as a writer. I also have an A.A in Law so I’m used to reading and analyzing large chunks of text. That being said, I’m always timid about speaking on the spot and I had very limited time to prepare so I was super anxious about this exam.

I registered on May 11th but because I’m a chronic procrastinator, I didn’t do any sort of prep until the night before. Seeing as time was of the essence, I didn’t do any mock tests or practice questions. Instead, I focused my energy on creating a solid strategy.

This was the main video I watched that night (I also re-watched it right before the exam): https://youtu.be/hcdzgjFtopo?si=u2L0W7YTyFi3TLol

I also watched this video by HZAD for tips for Speaking: https://youtu.be/LGfXP7I8lpI?si=GjJaa10uM2y5few3

Outside of these two videos, I just went over a few of the templates on the CELTESTPIP app, did the free Speaking exercise and proceeded with faith 😂

If anyone has any questions regarding tips and tricks, let me know! I’d be happy to answer :)

Got CLB 10 in first attempt

Hello everyone,

I gave exam on May 3rd.
My scores were
L 9
R 10
W 8
S 8

Then I applied for reval for writing and speaking seperately.

I got result on 7th May.

Applied reval for writing on 7th May itself.

Score bumped from 8 => 10.

Again applied for speaking on 10th May.

Score bumped from 8 => 9.

So final score 9 10 10 9

I’m a non native speaker. Practiced a lot for writing and speaking. I wrote almost 10 emails and essays. Checked with ChatGPT. Worked to fix my mistake. But was always getting borderline 9.

For speaking, I thought I fumbled too much. Because some questions needed thinking, but I kept speaking, making up stories. In picture description task, instead of saying sky diving I said paragliding. I was worried about this part more.

Reading was easier, there is enough time to read the passage and answer all questions. Just need to focus.

Listening, I felt was little faster than careeraxis latest mocks on YouTube. I got zoned out during first task. But later held my composure.

Finally, I wasn’t too confident of getting this amazing score, especially after reval. But yeah I made it. I am happy now.

Got CLB 9 on my first CELPIP attempt as someone weak in Speaking

Hi everyone, I wanted to share my CELPIP experience because Speaking was the part I worried about the most.

I got CLB 9 on my first attempt, but honestly I did not feel confident after the exam. I felt bad enough that I had already started thinking about preparing for a second attempt.

https://preview.redd.it/19ta7pxrfz1h1.png?width=293&format=png&auto=webp&s=22814a3bfa4de50fe82c0a77f5819604973eb2ec

Speaking has always been my weakest skill. I also personally found CELPIP Speaking harder than IELTS Speaking because each answer has a short fixed preparation time and recording time. For me, the hardest parts were Task 3, Task 4, and Task 8, especially the image-description tasks. Sometimes I was not familiar with the everyday objects in the picture, so it was hard to describe everything smoothly.

One thing that helped me was making my practice closer to the real test. I did full Speaking mocks with all 8 tasks, using the same preparation time and recording time as the actual CELPIP format. That helped me get used to the pressure instead of only practicing individual questions.

I also recorded my answers and listened back to them. For harder tasks, I would answer the same question again and compare my first answer with my second answer. That made it easier to notice repeated problems, like hesitation, weak structure, unclear details, missing vocabulary, or spending too much time thinking.

I kept a simple record of my practice and reviewed the words or phrases I kept forgetting. After doing this for a while, Speaking started to feel a little less random. My practice results had already been around my target range, and the final result showed me that consistent practice can be a useful signal.

This was a big personal goal for me since coming to Canada. Just wanted to share my experience in case it helps someone else preparing for the Speaking section.

Thank You!!

Im a native english speaker but this community really helped me manage my anxiety.

Biggest advice I have is to relax, I was stressed about it but I calmed down on the day of my exam. Listening was the hardest for me because my memory isnt great, but it turned out okay.

Chat GPT AND Gemini are excellent for learning speaking and writing, i constantly got about 9 to 10 by Chat GPTs grading of both. My speaking improved by incorporating personal responses (May not work for everyone)

Real thing felt natural. I mever practiced for reading cos it was my highest score on the practice tests, ended up being my lowest on the real thing.

THANK YOU ALL and best of luck!

First attempt! 😭😭😭

Just received my score for May 15! I'm so happy and honestly couldn't believe it, so I wanted to share my experience with y'all!

Prep time: 1 month

Materials: CELPIP Youtube videos, 2 free mock tests, 2 PrepAmigo practice tests, some Careeraxis tests for L&R

How I practiced vs. test experience:

📚L&R: I did some practice tests to get familiar with the format. No heavy strategy here.

📝Listening: I’d say it was medium difficulty for me. The first few parts were pretty easy, but the rest got a bit challenging.

📝Reading: The last part was SUPER hard. I didn't even understand what it was talking about lol

📚Writing: I completed about 5 practice tests and used chatgpt to grade and identify my common mistakes. For example, I often struggled with plural/singular forms and article usage (the/an/a), so I focused on fixing these during practice and stayed more alert for them during the actual test.

I also used many diverse grammar structures, paraphrased when possible, and kept a list of "fancy" words (e.g. beneficial, optimal, advocate for, etc.)

📝Writing: This was the section I felt the most confident about since I’ve been studying in the US and Canada for the past 5 years. I also had plenty of time to recheck my grammar and overall flow.

📚Speaking: This was my weakest section because my speaking delivery is not strong even in my native language.

I used chatgpt to practice (recorded and transcribed my answers; I even told it about my speaking fluency, e.g. fragmented rhythm, fillers, long pauses, etc.), and I usually received scores around 8-9 (But tbh I felt like my actual test performance was worse than my usual practice attempts, so I think I could get better scores).

What I did for practicing:

- adapted online speaking structures to sound more natural for me

- focused heavily on delivery (fillers, pauses, grammar control)

📝Speaking: I honestly thought I would only get a 7-8... I made a lot of self-corrections, grammar mistakes, and used some fillers. I also followed advice from people on reddit: don't skip the instructions and use it to write down the structures.

CELPIP STRUGGLE

First attempt : L10 R11 W9 S9 (Re-evaluated, got the same scores for W and S)

Second attempt: L11 R10 W11 S7 (Don't wanna spend 55$ coz I am 100% sure I fucked up my S this time)

Third attempt: L11 R10 W9 S7 (Waiting for re-evaluation score W and S)

3 attempts within 2 months. I kinda wanna take the exam ASAP, I feel like it gives me more confidence. Will desperation kill me?

Any tips? Especially with speaking? I am using HZAD templates so I alreasy have a structure. Problem is, as a non-native english speaker, I'm getting a hard time to articulate and I also tend to stutter/pause when I'm thinking for the right words.

Aint that Hard

No preparation at all 😭 But yeah I mean I did 4 years of BSc in Canada from UofManitoba so there was kinda an expectation that I should at least perform decent otherwise I’m cooked 💀

Listening: 10
Reading: 9
Writing: 9
Speaking: 12

Way easier than I expected honestly. Honestly at this point I feel like being relaxed calm and worrying less is really important.

CELPIP Revaluation Success

I just got my CELPIP reevaluation results back, and I am incredibly relieved. This was my first attempt, and I was completely exhausted from traveling, to the point where I lost focus during the first 10 minutes of listening and felt totally gutted after leaving the test center. However, writing was the one section I had worked hardest on and felt truly confident about, so I expected at least a 10. When the results came, I was shocked to see my other sections, especially speaking, were higher than expected, but my writing was a 9.

I decided to trust my gut and requested a revaluation. Super grateful, It paid off, and my score just got bumped from a 9 to a 10, getting me close to my desired result! If you honestly feel your performance deserved better, take the chance and apply for a reevaluation. Trust your instincts and don't let a harsh grader hold you back.

Stuck at CELPIP Speaking 8 even after retake and re-evaluation. I want to reach 10.

I’m honestly feeling very discouraged right now and wanted to ask if anyone here was stuck at Speaking 8 for a long time before finally reaching 9 or 10.

I gave my first CELPIP attempt around 3 weeks ago and got:

Listening: 9
Reading: 10
Writing: 9
Speaking: 8

After that result, I worked really hard for my second attempt because I genuinely believed I could improve my speaking score.

For preparation, I used:
- HZad’s $50 speaking course (this was the only thing I used for my first attempt)
- CELTestPip practice tests (I added this for my second attempt)

The strange thing is that all my other scores improved a lot in the second attempt:

Listening: 10
Reading: 12
Writing: 10
Speaking: still 8

What confused me even more was that on CELTestPip speaking mock tests, I was consistently getting 9s, so I honestly thought I had finally crossed that level.

During my second CELPIP attempt, I also felt much more confident while speaking compared to my first test. Because of that, I genuinely believed I had at least reached a 9 in speaking. I even applied for a re-evaluation, but the score still remained 8.

This whole month has been mentally exhausting. I work 8 hours a day, and after work I try to spend most of my free time practicing CELPIP. I sacrificed sleep, skipped meals sometimes, and pushed myself really hard because I need a higher score for my PR goals.

Seeing the same score again honestly broke me a little because now I have to take CELPIP again only because of speaking.

At this point, I don’t just want a 9 anymore. I want to understand what actually separates a Speaking 8 from a 10.

For people who managed to break past 8:
- What made the biggest difference for you?
- Was it pronunciation, pacing, confidence, grammar, vocabulary, or sounding more natural?
- Did mock evaluations help?
- Were you using too many templates before?
- How do you avoid freezing or repeating ideas during the test?

I’d genuinely appreciate advice from anyone who went through the same thing and finally got 10 in speaking.
