May SCS

Have seen a lot of people saying how difficult their exam has been. I know it certainly worried me.
I’ve spoken to a few people that have done theirs and the consensus is that it wasn’t too bad. Mine examined some really easy points. Just be confident going in and remember your practise questions and you should be fine!

SCS May 26

I hope anyone that took the SCS exam today felt it went well, and good luck to everyone else taking their exams week! Thought I’d give people a giggle with my experience that in my test centre the building work next door was so bad they provided everyone with ear defenders 😅 yes 3 hours of wearing ear defenders…not something I had prepared for!

SCS week. How’s everyone feeling for it?

I’m nervous about SCS. Mine is on Thursday and if the right topics come up I should be able to write a decent answer but if it’s something more niche I fear that I’m screwed lol.

Anyone else got any thoughts?

Help please

I am looking to career change after being in hospitality for the past 8 years. I am in my late 20's. I have zero accounting experience however maths was my strongest subject at school and I enjoy complex calculations and working with numbers/data. Are there a few course providers (UK) or is it solely Kaplan? Has anyone else been in this situation and if so how did you get started?

Appreciate any advice.

MCS this week

how does everyone feel after it?

I left feeling OK and as though I’d done enough but the more time passes the more I question myself. I messed up task 4.

i am doing FLP. I don’t know whether to now start for SCS and aim for November exam. if I failed MCS though i‘m unsure on how it’d leave me if I had to revisit management level for resit after starting Strat level.

anybody had this issue?

MCS Revoked

Anyone got any advice? I had my mcs revoked today as I couldn’t hear the proctor despite being able to hear the music played in the system test and the sound of the call connecting. I asked if they could phone me and they said no they had already revoked the exam and raised a case for technical issues. I phoned Pearson and they advised me to raise a special consideration which I have done. I’m so upset over it as I’ve put so much work into it and worried I will now need to wait until August.

Exemptions + FLP

Hi All,

I graduated from uni about 3 years ago it has given me some exemptions from CIMA. The remaining exams i have are the following

Operational Level
OCS – Operational Case Study (Operational Case Study Exam)

Management Level
MCS – Management Case Study (Management Case Study Exam)

Strategic Level
E3 – Strategic Management (Strategic Management Exam)
P3 – Risk Management (Risk Management Exam)
F3 – Financial Strategy (Financial Strategy Exam)
SCS – Strategic Case Study (Strategic Case Study Exam)

Would you say i should go through the traditional route of self study + kaplan/bpp or go with FLP and how hard are these remaining exams i have forgot a lot of the theory from uni would i struggle?

P1 help!!

Hoping someone can clarify the expected rounding approach for CIMA/P1 style pricing questions because I’m getting confused by what seems to be inconsistent logic between two questions.

In one question, I calculated a selling price of $84.874 and rounded mathematically to $84.87, but this was marked incorrect because rounding down meant the required target profit would not quite be achieved. The correct answer was $84.88 instead.

However, in another question I calculated a target cost of about $12.545. Rounding this up to $12.55 meant the required return would NOT be achieved, whereas rounding down to $12.54 would achieve the target return more accurately. Despite this, the correct answer was still given as $12.55.

So my question is:
In the exam, should we:

  • always round mathematically to the nearest cent/penny regardless of the impact on the target profit/return, OR
  • round in whichever direction ensures the target is achieved?

I’m sitting my exam tomorrow so would really appreciate any guidance from anyone who’s encountered this before!

Stressing SCS Exam

I’m on CIMA FLP - studying for my SCS next week - I’m on skills premium. I done all the questions and then did the mock paper, I did all the mock papers closed book and passed them all but not under time conditions, felt comfortable about the exam. Started looking at some other providers questions and my head just goes blank…..

I don’t really understand how to answer corporate governance questions - it’s starting to worry me now

How much time would you need to complete CIMA FLP?

I want to enroll to the FLP programme and I qualify to start at MCS level. I also have 6 years of finance experience. Would 1 year be enough to finalize the qualification, meaning the Strategic Level and SCS?

Hours needed to study

How many hours needed to study CIMA? I can maybe do 1-2 hours a weekday around work, and 2-3 on a weekend. I don't want it to take over my life completely, maybe take 3-4 years to complete.

Curious if anyone is taking the FLP with the skills plus. I work full time plus have kid (plus part qualified Acca but after taking a pause after my daughter was born I would have to restart that) work have agreed to pay for the FLP for 2-3 years.

Im curious if whats provided in skills plus is enough for self study. Eg is it only videos or does it also include text books for example (online is fine I can use my tablet)

Flp advice - free courses to pass in 1 year

Hi all,

I am not great at passing exams and messed up my acca studies a decade ago. I splashed thousands of pounds on courses.

Flp is a great way for me to get qualification. I don’t have mich money so was hoping to come
up with a plan to pass flo in one year.

Are there any good sources that I can use for free to prepare for case studies before paying the £2k subscription?

Can i do case studies whenever or are there set exam dates? When are these?

I find website very difficult to understand.

I appreciate your help and support!

Passed CIMA

Just wanted to share the good news that I finally cleared my CIMA exam! It’s been a long road of balancing work and study so seeing that "Pass" was a huge weight off my shoulders.

I know how stressful the prep can be, so for anyone currently in the thick of it, here is a breakdown of the resources I actually used to get through:

Video Content & Lectures

I leaned heavily on YouTube for the technical areas. It’s a great way to break up the dry textbook reading:

Astranti: I found their Top 10 Issues and pre-seen analysis videos really helpful for getting into the right mindset for the Case Study.

Practice & Question Banks

The biggest hurdle for me was the time pressure. I used CertsTopic for my practice runs because their question style felt very similar to what I encountered in the actual exam. It helped me get used to the wording and, more importantly helped me manage my pace so I wasn't rushing at the very end.

A Few Key Takeaways:

Focus on the "Why": Don't just memorise formulas. Understand the logic behind them, as the exam likes to test your application rather than just your math.

Timed Mocks: I did a few full-length mocks under exam conditions. It’s exhausting, but it’s the only way to build the stamina you need for the real thing.

Take Breaks: Burnt-out brains don't retain info. Give yourself permission to step away when you hit a wall.

Happy to answer any questions about the specific topics or how I structured my study schedule. Good luck to everyone sitting their exams soon!
