Cross after one week

I bought the non-hybrid Corolla Cross XLE (I know - redundant) with the convenience package last week. My wife and I have logged just under a 1,000 miles on it in that time. We’ve driven in towns, cities, highways and freeways.

The best experience I had to get to know the Cross was on route 81 in Virginia. This is a high speed freeway. I reached speeds of just over 80 MPH on the drive to my destination. The tachometer was around 2,000 RPMs at this speed creating very little engine noise. However, even slight acceleration at high speeds caused the engine to rapidly jump to over 3,000 RPMs and the engine noise was very noticeable. Accelerating at this speed caused the engine to sound just a bit shy of laboring in my opinion. I noticed the power band for the engine starts around 3,000 RPMs. The Cross is sluggish under 3,000 RPMs and could use more torque to power it at lower RPMs. It was windy driving to my destination and the cabin noise was noticeable. On the trip home there was no wind and, again, the cabin was pleasantly quiet. This particular drive was just over two hours and my butt was a bit sore which surprised me because on shorter trips I find the Cross very comfortable.

The center console is small, as is the glovebox, so there is very little storage room. I’ve always liked to rest my elbow on the center console and hold the steering wheel at 5 o’clock. The center console is so small that my elbow to hand is just long enough to do this comfortably.

Pulling out into traffic onto a highway from a complete stop requires aggressive acceleration, like almost flooring it. The goal is to reach 3,000 RPMs as quickly as possible as, again, the vehicle is sluggish until moving into its power band.

Today I was driving from West Virginia back to Virginia and got caught in a torrential downpour with high winds. The Cross was pushed around by the high winds, but I imagine this would be the same experience with any SUV or crossover.

The technology in the car is, for the most part, very good, but with a bit of a learning curve. I have the Dynamic Radar Cruise Control set to medium and find the system a bit aggressive in keeping the Cross in the center of the lane and taking turns, so I drive in regular cruise control mode. I should try setting the DRCC at low and see if it makes a noticeable difference. I think DRCC would be great if I’m driving and feeling sleepy (I know, bad idea).

Just a few miscellaneous observations. The Cross feels pleasantly tight going over speed bumps and railroad tracks. It just feels well built. The turning radius is very good. The back seat is a little cramped. We offered to give three people a lift and they looked in the back and said they’d drive their own car. I don’t blame them. I think they would’ve gone for it if it was just two of them. The controls on the steering wheel are convenient and well thought out to effortlessly make adjustments.

Overall, driving the Cross has been a great experience. Sure, I wish it had a little more horsepower and torque, but I must remember this is a crossover on a Corolla base. I knew that when I bought it. It’s going to have a few shortcomings. Most of my complaints could easily have been solved if I had bought a RAV4. However, I like smaller vehicles and was willing to give up a little extra room and horsepower for the smaller sized Cross. If I were buying a Cross today, having the experiences of the last week, I probably would spend a little extra money for the hybrid, but the dealer didn’t have one in stock, so it doesn’t matter.

I plan to keep this little guy for many years and many miles. I believe it’s going to take care of me very well.

230k miles 600 mile road trip

i have a 07 Corolla. I was wondering what you guys think about me taking it on a 600 (1200 miles total) mile road trip to DC.

Here is what I have done recently:
Oil change in April
Completely replaced all rear drum brake components in 2025
Replaced brake, transmission, coolant fluids in 2024/2025
Just replaced driver side front axle
Spark plugs in 2025
Fuel induction at 180k
Tires still have plenty tread
Drive belt 3/2025
Timing chain sensor 2025
radiator 12/2025
New battery 1/2026

My mechanic just seen the car last week for the axle replacement and said its good for the trip

Am I chilling?

She is finally on the road

I bought this 2003 Corolla for $800 about three weeks ago with 270,800 miles. It had a blown head gasket and a bad AC compressor. I just got it registered on Monday after replacing the head gasket, having the head resurfaced, and getting it repainted. The 2018 airbag recall had not been performed, so I took care of that as well. The only problems remaining are abysmal power with the AC on and the need to replace the drive shafts because they hum when I turn right. After I fix those issues, I'm going to upgrade the audio and then get the Corolla S bumper trim pieces and side skirts. Then, I want to either get 17-inch wheels for it and lower it, or just lower it on the existing 15-inch wheels. Any recommendations for lowering springs or coilovers would be appreciated, but I probably want lowering springs because the previous owners had put new suspension on it before selling it.

Value? Insurance vs Selling price? What value would you all put to this car in CAD or USD. 1998 Corolla 3GSTE, MR2 trans with LSD, lowered on tokicos, mishimoto rad, stage 3 350hp clutch, ST20B turbo, front mount intercooler, Tom’s wheels, custom downpipe and exhaust?

Connecting a 1985 radio to an old Corolla

Warning: The original language is Russian.

Я получил её и она была снята с божественной AE86(в моих краях довольно редкий, но вполне осязаемый зверь).

Oil change

I took my corolla for its annual service, and noticed that as per the invoice, they filled her up with 15W30 oil, instead of 0W20.

Should I be worried ?

Thanks

2024 Corolla SE Hybrid $25.5k

Hey all,

Just bought the model above and loving it so far. It’s a sportier trim and the gas mileage is so frieking awesome. Fun to drive. Now have a sun roof. And Gas mileage gas mileage gas mileage ⛽️

Only lingering concern I have is that it has 46k miles. Not sure if I got screwed or if that mileage is a rounding error for Corollas. Feel like I’m overthinking it.

I bought it in a bit of a panic after I got word that my Kia souls (2017) engine blew up at only 125k miles, so even if I did over pay I (think) I probably didn’t overpay by much. At least I hope. And it’s not a damn Kia 👎

OTD the door with gap insurance, a cheap theft policy, and a dashcam was $28.5ish. $3,000 down, which essentially offset the sales tax. The dashcam I regret now but it’s too late on that.

Help me feel better lol. If this model is as reliable as advertised than it’s all good, but need reassurance lol

Carplay Corolla 2019

Tengo un Corolla modelo 2019 matriculado en 2020 y no tiene carplay, por 50 euros me lo ponen en un taller oficial Toyota pero tardan demasiado en darme la cita.

Es simplemente una actualización? O cambia el hardware? Puedo hacerlo yo?

Good price?

For context I am located in the Louisville area and have had an interest in going for this trim level. How does this price compare to other markets?

Terrible display: 2021 Toyota Corolla

Been pretty happy with my ride except for the display— no native GPS (rip Entune) and no CD player. For reasons I’m not going to get into I’m getting rid of my smart phone. I need a display that has a cd player and a native gps app. Does that exist? I’ve searched through about 85,000 posts and searches with no luck.

Edit: to be clear, I would like to know what to replace the display stereo with. I do not want a new car.

Pricing on a Corolla FX?

Hey all, I have a dealership offering me what looks like $30,500 just about, out the door for a 2026 Corolla Hatchback FX. Is this a good deal? They didn't quite give me much room for bargaining, so I am curious what you all think would be a good OTD price for this vehicle

Are new Toyota products not good quality anymore? I have 50K miles and already have a check engine light.

I was driving my 2022 Toyota Corolla with only 50K miles and got a check engine light. The error reads, "A malfunction in the electronic control of the engine, throttle, or automatic transmission has been detected. Contact your Toyota dealer in order to have your vehicle inspected". What is wrong the the new Toyota cars? Does anyone have issues with their newer Toyota? This car has had a lot of problems. I actually called Toyota corporate to complain awhile back and they gave me a free 5 year extended warranty. Thanks good because what do you know, I need to fix something else. I may just sell this thing and buy an older car who does not use a CVT transmission. I also don't understand why newer cars are adopted CVT transmissions. Did they learn anything from Nissan vehicles? Anyhow, if you have had this problem, please let me what was wrong or Toyota fixed it.

Looking for a sanity check on pricing if folks have the time!

Hey folks, I am hoping to get a Corolla as my next car. I currently have an offer for $28,994 out the door at a dealership for an 2026 XSE, and I’m curious if that’s a good price to jump on?

I also had an offer for $30,500 for an FX which seems way worse

Any help or tips would be more than appreciated!

How to temporarily fix this?

Hello everyone. My car's bumper has fallen off and I need a quick temporary fix it for right now. I popped it back into place but it falls off again after driving for a day. Maybe some of the locks are broken. Do you guys know if I can fix this myself somehow? Or how a auto body shop would fix this? Tight on budget so I can't afford a expensive fix. Thanks in advance!

Toyota Corolla SE inventory

I’m thinking of buying a Corolla se, specifically in white, in a few days. I checked my local dealership website and it says most of these are in transit right now, but I don’t know how accurate that is. I didn’t think Toyota had an inventory problem until I stalked this subreddit and inventory has been low since Covid and now worried I won’t be able to just buy it off the lot. Not super picky about the interior just want it to be white. How bad is the inventory issue really?

Need advice. I want to buy my first Toyota Corolla...

What do you think it's a good deal to buy Toyota Corolla 2016, 1.6 97kw, with 195k km (121k miles)? Just one owner.
