So my wife and I made a drive down from Austin Texas to see New Orleans for the first time this long weekend. Honestly? It was a bit of a mix bag.

My wife kept comparing it to Galveston, Texas. I can see the similarities. A lot of bright colored houses, slightly lifted up to prepare for any possible flood, and a lot of seafood inspired restaurants.

The French Quarter even resembled The Strand in Galveston to a certain degree, although we were greeted in the French Quarter by a guy taking a poo in the middle of the street, so I guess that’s where the similarities ended.

The online guides all said to start with Cafe Du Monde. Sure. We waded through the line, got a table, forked out $20 for some beignets and coffee that tasted like dish water. Not a great start.

We walked the Quarter, got some trinkets, got called a few racist names (why?!), and took some pictures of the mostly run-down buildings. Then went to the WWII museum. This was great! Lots of history, some good artifacts, and lots to see. It rained super hard. Then suddenly stopped and got unbearably hot and muggy. Then rained like crazy again.

We went to some good restaurants. Plates. Toups Meatery. And I kid you not, the best lasagna I’ve had EVER at Vincent’s Italian Cuisine. Bold claim but true. And I’ve had lasagna all over the world (even Rome). We had coffee at this amazing coffee shop (twice) called Rooks. Super good. I recommend the Holy Grail.

Met some cool people, had some alligator sausage, and met some stray chickens outside our hotel. Unfortunately we also nearly got run over by some ATV’s near the Superdome, got threatened by a lady selling drugs in a convenience store near Napolean St, and got laughed at when looking for lingerie for my wife in Trashy Divas. But then I had some free drink samples at the Sazerac House during a free tour.

The driving in New Orleans was kind of weird. People drive slower than Austin and yet honk at you SUPER QUICKLY. The street grids with double sets of traffic lights and extra median made for a bit of a confusing drive, I often made it through a yellow light only to be stuck behind the 2nd light that was now red with only room for two or three cars in this short interim section. I often worried about getting hit by a trolley car if I sat here. I’m sure this gets more normal and more easily avoided if you lived here.

So we had good. We had bad. Overall I’m glad I went and experienced the city for myself. My wife and I always enjoy traveling together and experiencing new things. I found New Orleans similar to some parts of Macau, Lisbon, and Galveston. Would I go again? Sure. But maybe not during this time of year.

This may seem like a silly question (and it kind of is). I have an Xbox One S that I have painstakingly upgraded the storage from a 500gb HDD to a 1tb SSD. My Xbox runs great, however, I was considering upgrading to a Series X in order to place some of the newer games coming out.

- I’m aware Xbox has backwards compatibility. I was wondering if some of the old games that I have purchased for the Xbox One S will be upgraded to a slightly different version when I play it on the Xbox Series X?

- can I pull my SSD out of my Xbox One S and install it in the Xbox Series X?

On my bi-annual rewatch and I noticed that two of the characters in this episode "Hunter Prey", Bernie Casey and Tony Steedman, were both in Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure. Anyway, nothing more. Just an observation.

I'm watching Season 2 of the new live-action Avatar the Last Airbender and was surprised to see Tori. Apparently there are many copies....

I watched this during my first watch of BSG years ago. This past week I binged the entire series and ended with “The Plan”.

Obviously there was no major secrets revealed. Beyond that, the show was basically a reel show with clips from the series and a few background clips.

Overall, a solid B- for Battlestar Galactica. Nothing new. A few thoughts:

- It ends with two Cavils getting spaced. One of the had just knived a kid and said friendship was dangerous yet her took the other Cavil’s hand in friendship as he got spaced.

- I was wondering if Boomer sided with Cavil because he was still controlling her with the elephant.

- a bit retconned or poorly managed since it showed the final five with Cavil but then him wanting to put them with the humans for a lesson. Supposedly the five arrived during the first Cylon war and they stopped the war, but then later the five are in resurrection bathtubs? But Saul was around during the first Cylon War as a Colonial Officer. The timeline was a bit jumbled.

- If they’re going to make a movie about “The Plan” , I would rather they had followed the Final Five plot line more fully, then arriving and stopping the First Cylon War and then getting double crossed by Cavil/John rather than just a reel show. I realize ever serialized show as a reel episode because it’s a lot cheaper to produce (just reuse old footage) but still.

In Episode 13 of Season 3, they decide to violate Baltar's rights and drug him for information. But at that time they also had his conspirator Caprica Six onboard. Why didn't they just drug her too and compare the answers? If you're going to go all in, why not go ALL THE WAY IN?

I’m a middle school teacher. One day in the classroom I realized there was a squeaky floor joint in the corner of the classroom. I stepped on it and it made a curiously fart-like sound.

The kids immediately went “EWWWWW!” and said I (the teacher) farted. Nope! I pointed at the floor joint and stepped on it a few times, showing it made the telltale fart sound but it WASN’T me, the teacher, farting.

Over the course of the semester I’d occasionally step there on purpose and the class of 6th graders would go nuts laughing about the sound.

Ironically I was grooming them.

Whenever I really had to fart, thanks to my intestinal fortitude (or lack thereof), I’d go back to that same floor joint and step on it, simultaneously releasing a well-earned Havana Omelette like breeze; and the students were none the wiser.
