Is this worth the buy? Never owned a hybrid.

Wondering if this is a good deal? I did some research and I see it’s not an F Sport but the car looks to be in good shape. It has 92k miles. Wondering if the battery or head gasket would be of concern? Going to take a look at it tomorrow but wanted to know what key things I should look for?

Cat converter measures (help needed)

Hi guys, I wanted to ask some fellow CT owners about what measures should I take to avoid getting my cat converter stolen (again), as the car already has been 1 month in the shop and I just took it off the lot (dealer second hand, 2021, 50k km) and I (nor my insurance I imagine) don't want to deal with this headache again, I was looking about possible measures I could take, and I found two, a dashcam, wired to a energized fuse so it can use the parking mode (which I'm not much a fan of as I already had to change the 12v battery because it was dead, dealer forgot to check it before giving it to me) or an inclination/tilt alarm that sets off if the car is lifted with a jack, that sounds good but I have no idea how to get it done, I wanted to take advantage now that the car is still in the shop, and wanted to get it done, but no irreversible measures, as they gave me a 2 year warranty on the car, and it still has 11 years of the 15 for the battery. Thank you in advance! :)

Edit: I've also looked into a cat shield, but the mechanic at the shop said it's not a very good idea as it may create heating problems and they will cut through it anyway

Edit 2: Ideally, I'd love to have the tilt alarm so it's wired with the car as it locks and unlocks with it, I've seen CAN bus alarms or something like that? but I don't know if they'll let the car work properly, cause any problems, and besides look like they're kinda expensive, but I guess cheaper than a new cat, if not, then I guess one hard-wired to the battery with an external remote will do, but maybe they're vulnerable because they use generic remotes?

Heartbroken

Had a deer bolt in front of me yesterday on the way home from a fantastic mini vacation. 8:30pm at 60mph didn't even see the damn thing till he was in front. Tried to swerve but it was already over. I actually cried. Lol. Best car I ever owned.

Are small trailers possible?

I am moving across the country. About 2500 miles. I was curious if my 2015 CT200H could handle a small uhaul trailer for the trip? The smallest they have is a 4x8 cargo trailer. Has anyone tried this or have any insight?

OEM cup holder inserts

Hello everyone,

I was wondering if there are OEM cup holder inserts. I noticed that on the non-navigation CT s the cubby/ tray there has a rubber insert with a part number (TPO 58916-76010) and I can find that at different Lexus parts websites but couldn't find any for the cup holders.

Alternatively, if anyone can recommend a good aftermarket set of cup holder inserts that would be great, even knowing the size diameter would be helpful (I think it's 2.5in)

323k-Mile Update: New Sodium-Ion Battery Installed!

A few weeks ago, I asked if it was worth replacing the hybrid battery on my 2012 with 323,000 miles on it. The consensus here was a resounding "yes," despite the high mileage.

Well, today I officially pulled the trigger and installed a sodium-ion battery. Here’s to hoping it goes another 323k miles!

Next up on the project list:

  • Replace the broken fog lights
  • Install new windshield moulding
  • Swap out the stock radio (it completely short-circuits the entire sound system, erasing all my presets, whenever a song title is too long)
  • Finally tackle that damn EGR cleanout...

Curiously killed the car

Well this sucks, so yesterday I found my tyer flat with a crack in the side wall. After running around like a headless chicken I got them back today and put them back on my car. when i was filling my tyers up I though to fill the spare (I found it was only 10 psi). While I was in the back I found a orange hinge thing that I thought to invest agate, Poor choice. I pulled the main battery fuse (I think) and when I went to move my car I found it not starting and complaining about a hybrid system error.

When I got photos I thought there could be no harm and replugged it in and got it the engine started but the car still reports a hybrid system error.

I will be purchasing, against my better wishes, a OBD2 elm327 tool and Dr.Prius App to try to fix my blunder. unfortunately I don't think it will fix my stupidly.

Any advice will be apricated.

Why hatchbacks get dirty rear windows but sedans don’t

AeroJAX GitHub Repository - Drop a ⭐ if you find this kind of real-time CFD interesting

Real-time CFD comparison: sedan vs hatchback wake structures

The hatchback develops a much larger rear recirculation zone, which is one of the reasons hatchbacks tend to accumulate more dirt on the rear surface.

Morning Yin and Yang

Wife blocked the other side of the garage last night, so it led to this quick park job. Just a bit of opposing but complimentary forces. Filled up last night at $39. That's much more palatable than damn near $200!

Found the Culprit

I just bought a 2012 with 190k miles on it for 3500 and the previous owner was quoted 3k at the dealership to fix the Low battery voltage reading at the Sensor. I decided to just go ahead and order me some Refurbished battery Cells even though they weren't bad and change out the bars on the batteries since I seen they had corrosion on them. But I just wanted to post this in case anyone else has this problem with there battery module reading low. This seems to be a common issue for this year model because of the poorly designed Sensor. And I just ordered a used newer version so hopefully it dosnt happen again.

Wondering if this is worth the price

My older brother can sister we're able to meet up with the owner and see the car. I wasn't able to due to work. Wondering if there is anything suspicious about this car and any concerns that I should know before sealing the deal.

Good Deal?

Currently looking at a 2012 CT with 150k KILOMETRES for 15,000. Car seems to be a good condition, and has service records from Toyota.

Have been reading here a lot and saw that pre facelift models of the ct were “more” prone to headgasket issues, is that something i should be looking at doing if i go ahead with the car

Also dont know much about hybrids so i have no idea if the hybrid battery will be due soon for a replacement

Also live in Canada, so would like to know anyones experience daily-ing this car in harsh winters!

EGR cooler cleaning

So I cleaned my EGR system before, and today I cleaned the EGR cooler. I thought it might be hard without a pressure washer, but honestly it was mostly fine with just boiling water and OxiClean. For the final step, I used some carb cleaner to remove the last traces of oxidation.

Also, you’ll need an E8 E-Torx socket to remove the studs that hold the EGR valve and EGR cooler together. The first time I removed the EGR valve, I used a 6mm socket, but later I bought the proper E8 socket. I ended up buying a whole set since it was almost the same price as buying just the E8 socket plus $5 or smth like that.

Total cost was around $30 plus your time.

No More Steering Knock!

After I checked and tightened center shaft bolts, the steering knock was reduced but not enough. I went and ordered the power steering shaft damper and today I successfully swapped the new one. It has not been easy, especially reinstalling all the components, being alone.

The old one wasn't that bad and not a lot of green pieces inside the case, despite a lot of videos I saw online with this problem.

I can confirm I resolved the issue.

I ordered the original one from AMAYAMA (45254-28040); it doesn't come with the little center "star shaped" spacer, but the old one was like new.

Edit: Italy, 160000km Edit2: this is the power steering shaft damper
