Brumbies running by tent??

I was camping recently in high country Vic. I woke up early hours of the morning (still dark) and swear I heard heaps of wild brumbies galloping past. I woke up in the morning and couldn’t tell if I imagined it. My husband takes something to sleep at night, so he heard nothing. Has anyone else experienced this? I know that they’re out there, I’ve never seen one though and thought it odd that so many would run by our tent. Did I dream it?

Moved from Bris, keen to camp in VIC but need some advice!

Hey folks

Firstly, it's not just me. My partner, young son, dog and I are avid campers - but we are used to the gruelling heat of QLD rather than VIC cold weather and my partner is a bit more apprehensive than me

I suppose I'm after some

- recommendations of camping spots and how to book. vic parks site? Hipcamp used here?
- when is it 'stupid to go' due to the weather right now? When are the best months to go?
- any other insights or insider information?

I cannot wait to visit beautiful VIC countryside, thanks all!

Does anyone get harassed by police much living in a van? Where mostly does this occur and get any infringement? Breath tests when parked?

Can you park in the streets/parks and sleep in the back with out issues?

First time cold weather camping!

Hey all,

Towards the end of June, a friend and I are planning on doing a short car camping trip down in Lake Elizabeth. We started camping earlier in the year and love it, but have yet to experience camping in the cold. We've just upgraded our kmart SI mats to the Sea to Summit Camp SI mats.

Would it be necessary to get a CCF pad for under our mats, or any other cheap alternatives? And any other thoughts on our current setup? Or anything else we should be aware of?

Our current setup is:

  • Tent: Coleman 3P Swagger + groundsheet to go under
  • Sleeping bag: Coleman Pilbara -5C / Random sleeping bag + fleece liner
  • Sleeping mat: Sea to Summit Camp Self Inflating Sleeping Mat
  • A NatureHike tarp shelter
  • We also use a butane stove - I'm hoping that it should be ok?

Thanks :)
