What’s a hobby you want to like but just don’t?

I want to be a running person. I love the idea of it: fresh air, clear head, easy fitness, minimal equipment. In reality I spend the whole time thinking “how long has it been?” and negotiating with myself like it’s a hostage situation.

What’s the hobby you wish you liked, but just don’t?

What’s a product you refuse to buy the cheap version of?

What’s something you’ll happily pay more for because the cheap version is just not worth it?

I will spend more on good shoes, as cheap ones always seem fine for 2 weeks, then the soles die, they leak or they hurt my feet. Paying more upfront has saved me so much discomfort and they last much longer too so I'm saving money in the long run.

What Canadian newspapers do you like to read?

Despite residing in Toronto, The Toronto Star doesn't really appeal to me (politics, US, International conflicts,...).

Since through the library we have access to lots of Canadian newspapers just wondering if there's any you particularly like.

It'd be nice to have some idea of what's going on in other parts of Canada and also some International coverage that isn't so conflict-driven or US-heavy like I find The Star.

I'm familiar with the National newspapers, but just looking for any good (interesting) regional papers.

What’s a social rule you never understood?

What’s a social “rule” that everyone seems to follow, but you’ve never fully understood why, or you find it pointless?

I hate the “we should totally hang out sometime!” thing. People say it with full sincerity, everyone smiles, and then nobody follows up. I never know if I’m supposed to take it literally and suggest a date, or if it’s just a polite way of ending a conversation.

Is anyone actually living their dream? What does that even look like in real life?

Genuine question, is anyone here truly “living their dream” right now? I feel like everyone I know is just working in a job they don't absolutely dread, just to pay bills and feed their families, and it's an endless cycle. No one dreams of growing up to be an accountant or work in finance. There are a few people who dream of being a doctor and they achieve that goal. But even then, it's probably not what they envisioned when they dreamed it as a kid. They didn't realise how stressful it is, or how many hours of work or how mentally taxing.

So if you are living your dream, what is it specifically, and how did you get there? How long did it take? For the rest, do you still have a dream or have you given up?

What’s the most useful thing you’ve ever learned from a grandparent/older person?

What’s a lesson you got from a grandparent (or just an older person in your life) that’s actually been surprisingly useful?

My older neighbour once told me: “If you can fix it with money, it’s not a real problem. It’s an expense.” It helped me stop spiralling over stuff like replacing a broken appliance. If you can fix the issue with money, then it's not the end of the world.
