Spiritism/african religion on Cape verde

Ive been investigating the african derived religions on the american continent and i wonder if cape verde as also being a slave colony would also have this kinds of religious practices.

I search online but there was almost no information. Ive seen that people wear a kind of collar that is related to superstitions.

Does it exist? And if it does i assume unlike the african religions on the americans that are mainly of yoruba, Bakongo and Fon origin the practices in cape verde would be of senegambian and guinean origin.

Thanks in advance

Cape Verdean, but I don't feel connected to my culture

Hi Everyone,

I was wondering if there are more people who feel this way. I was born in the Netherlands to Cape Verdean parents. At home, we spoke the language and our culture was very present (such as in the food we ate, the music that was on, family gatherings, etc.).

The thing is, I've never felt very connected to my culture. I've never had much interest in the music, the culture, or the way of thinking in general. I also knew early on that I'd not be marrying a Cape Verdean man later (Spoiler alert: I didn't). Growing up, I just felt alienated and like I didn't belong.

I also did not have the best connection with my parents. My father had a drinking problem and died in 2020 during the pandemic, and I have no contact with my mother. I'm the one who tried breaking generational trauma and simply went my own way once I started growing up.

A couple of years ago, I did several DNA heritage tests (AncestryDNA, FamilyTree DNA, and MyHeritage) and found that I had a lot of Portuguese heritage (which obviously makes sense given Cape Verdean history). I have always felt very connected to the Portuguese culture and have even studied Portuguese, so I was honestly happy and content to find such a high level of Portuguese heritage in my DNA.

I honestly feel so much more connected to that culture and have tried to find ways to immerse myself in it without leaving out my Cape Verdean/Black history.

Is there anyone else who feels this way? Who do not feel connected to their (Cape verdean) culture?

Thanks!

Santo Antao: questions

I'm visiting santo antao in August. I'm staying 4 nights.

- I'm wondering what's the best to do for accommodation, whether always staying in one town or changing?

- Whether renting a car is a good idea to visit the island, because I saw that most hikes are A to B, so car might not be useful for that.

- so do most alquileras go from town to town?

- is Paul actually the most efficient town to stay in as hiking location?

Thank you in advance

Visiting Santo Antao soon

Hi, we’re visiting Santo Antao in 2 weeks and my wife suddenly thinks the world is going to collapse and is stressing out because she feels she can’t plan ahead. She has a few questions:

  1. Do we need to bring a mosquito net to sleep safely?
  2. Where can we buy snacks and water for during the hike?
  3. Is phone and internet coverage good on the island, especially during hikes in case of an emergency?

I bet all will be fine, but for my comfort i’d like to confirm this to her. I’m looking forward to going there as it seems to be one of the most beautiful places on earth.
