Canadian last names

I'm writing a story set in Canada and I'm finding it hard to find last names that work for my Canadian characters. Most last names either sound American or super English. For example, my two main characters last names are Henley and Lawson and then I just added another character with the last name Kaywell but that just sounds super posh and English to me. I'm looking for last names that are not too common so that my characters can stand out but I also want it to be realistic since I'm writing a contemporary.

Do these work? Also as a note, they all have very different backgrounds but each of them live in Ontario and are Canadian born.

Name for a character that's like superman in a world where DC comics exist

So basically, the plot is that my mc is kinda like a kryptonian(I won't lie, I was inspired to write this when I watched Supergirl and randomly locked in), but not exactly. Though they're absolutely close enough that people would start associating mc with superman/supergirl/the rest of the superfam, though this takes place in a universe where every type of superhero media is still just media, and mc is the only 'super person'. I'm trying to figure out what the people of Earth would start to call her, because logically I think they'd call her supergirl or something because like I said, the comics exist and people would make the connection, but I don't want to blatantly steal that from DC comics even if this is just something I'm writing for fun. So what names do you think the general population would start calling her?

Also, she already has an actual name, I'm just looking for like a nickname the media would likely dub her

Names for a Sphinx

I have a bit of context but you can skip if you want.

I have a character named Ife, born to two adventurous wives by way of a wish granted by a sphinx when they passed its riddle. The caveat is that she is parts of both parents, but also part sphinx - wings, tail, etc. She grows up to become a caretaker of her parents’ legacy (this magicky museum) and an archer.

The story takes place in a mega-dungeon (called the Athenaeum), which comes about when the museum falls through a wormhole. Some strange space-time stuff happens that morphs it into this massive structure floating in space with hundreds of floors, strange happenings, and dangerous creatures. The appearance is modeled with the vibe of cozy old academia + ancient magick tech + space plants/creatures (imagine Tears of the Kingdom/Scavengers Reign/The Bodleian Library of Oxford). The story has a mix of high-intensity warfare as Ife tries to protect her home from an enemy takeover, with lots of slice of life moments sprinkled in.

In my universe, sphinxes are cosmic beings who live extremely isolated lives. They are abandoned at birth to make their own way so have no concept of family. They dwell in their own pockets of space, minding their own business and generally spurn company but horde knowledge. This one (a cross between a cat and an owl) is much the same, but Ife and her relentless golden retriever energy, and refusal to be anything but best friends, worms her way into the Sphinx’s good graces - whom she refers to as ‘Auntie’. The story sees Ife reintroduce the sphinx to things like curiosity and play (she even brings it a giant ball of yarn) and the idea of family. As the more serious parts of the story progress, the Sphinx becomes a patron of sorts (similar to a DnD warlock or Odysseus/Athena dynamic), speaking in her ear and lending her power.

I’m completely stuck on a name. I thought Egyptian initially for the regal/ancient vibe, but didn’t like anything I found, so I’m open to any origin. I usually search for ‘names meaning xyz’, but I’m not pulled to any particular meaning here. My only caveat is that I don’t want already famous names (Artemis, etc.) Thanks!!

Need help naming two characters for a piece set in 19th century England — working class woman and her young son

Hi guys!! I am currently working on a story centred around interclass suffragette/ female social reform in late 19th century England and need help naming two characters. The first is a volunteer nurse at a charity hospital and the second is her son who we see grow from a newborn to man over the course of the story.

If it helps, my other central characters are comfortably middle class women named Constance and Irene whom the woman and her son live with, and I would like the other names to fit this vibe, especially as they are very involved in raising the son and he is born while she is living with them.

Thomas is off limits as it has been used for another character!!

Thanks so much for your help, you have been great in the past!!!

Most memorable character name? — help please

Aspiring romance novelist here and I’m trying to narrow down a name for one of the main female characters.

I’m less interested in whether you personally like the name and more interested in your immediate impression of the name(s)

Without looking anything up, what comes to mind when you hear each of these?

• Affinia (stand alone name)
• Affinia Savoy
• Affinia Fujiwara
• Sonomi Savoy
• Affinia Sonomi Savoy
• Affinia Monroe

For each one, I’d love to know:

— What nationality or cultural background do you imagine?

— How old does she feel?

— What kind of personality do you picture?

— What profession could you imagine her having?

— Which name is the most memorable?

— Which sounds the most elegant?

— Which one would make you want to keep reading?

First impressions only, don’t think too hard or long it as there are no right or wrong answers! Thank you so much and I appreciate your help

Love,
RR

Is this an appropriate Korean name for my character?

Hi! I made a character design and wanted to name him "Joon Hwa-eum"

"Joon" because it's the name of the character which inspired the design and "Hwa-eum" since (apparently) it's a Korean word for a spider type and spiders are part of his design

I wasn't sure if the name "Joon Hwa-eum" was an appropriate name to give a human, so u wanted to ask if it meant anything and if it's an okay name? Please help! Thanks in advance! :3

Edit: just figured out that "Joon" isn't a last name so I'm thinking of changing it to "Moon" instead 😭

Help with names!

Hi. I have this one go to name: Luna. I have a character that it works perfectly for, but I already have a few named Luna in other WIPs and need help getting a name that still works but is different. I'm looking for names with a similar vibe to Luna, that still are related to the moon and/or water (hopefully just the moon or both, not just water)

Does anyone have any ideas?

A new surname for a dwarven artificer

I'm looking for a new surname for my DnD character, a dwarven artificer, artillerist speciality.

He's gone through a lot of changes and is now living life on his own terms. The family name Hammersmark (yes, I did borrow that from Inglorious Bastards)—the family he ran away from, the family that would execute him for the accidental death of his brother, the family of which he had always been the black sheep anyway— no longer suits him.

I want a two part, one word name that might feel like it could have a hypen (which I just learned is called a dithematic name), e.g., Brighthelm, Ironhand, Strongbeard, Stonebreaker, and the classic Oakenshield.

Themes would be blacksmithing/forging and guns or artillery. And maybe freedom?

Some I've thought of:

Risenforge or Risingforge

(Something)cannon or Cannon(something)

Blackpowder feels too literal

He did sometimes try to obscure his identity with the name Blackanvil, but he is claiming a new identity, not covering up an old one.

Thank you for you help!

I can't get the right name for one of my characters

Hi. I have this character in a piece I'm writing, and I just can't find the right name for her. I want something melodic, and kind of "pretty" to say and hear, but also hinting at darkness, or feeling a little dark, and also preferably long. I've thrown around names like Nezzera and Azora, but none of them feel right.

So basically, she's kind of cold, and calculating, and the kind of person who takes everything in and asseses it well and harshly. Like in some shows and stuff where they just have all the numbers calculating around them, and their brain kind of labels things and people- thats her. She likes to observe, and does not care much about other peoples feelings. She has long, dark hair, stormy blue eyes, and pale skin. The actual plot is that there are some people who can control light, to either create illusions, have speed, heal, or conjure things temporarily. But she controls darkness.

I'm just really stuck on names and would really apreciate some help if you have any ideas.

Help with naming a set of deities

I'm naming the deities in a webcomic I am making and there were a couple I was struggling to come up with. I'm trying to mostly base them off various bits of already existing mythology(like the ferryman on the river styx) or phrases (like "flora and fauna" or "nemini parco").

I've already come up with: Nemini Parco for the deity of souls, The Ferryman for the deity of death, Mǔdān for the deity of life (she is symbolized by peonies), Flora for the deity of plants, and Fauna for the deity of animals.

I can't think of any names for the deity of truth, the deity of weather/skies, the deity of eyes/observation, or the deity of love. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Looking for help naming a character who was named for being a "blessing"

I'm thinking about writing a character who was raised by a strongly religious Christian woman who thought her daughter was a special gift from God. I haven't thought it all out yet, but there was something hard this woman had been going through (miscarriage, an illness, previous child had died, something like that), and having this child was a major relief. And, as this child grows up, her mother depends on her for emotional support way more than she should.

The mom is Protestant, not Catholic, but doesn't really belong to one denomination. She's essentially has Borderline Personality Disorder and kind of ping pongs between charismatic preachers, but tends to stay in more the "liberal hippie cult" type than MAGA. She's probably the kind of person who thinks she's an Indigo and that she has a Crystal child.

For more info, my plan for the book is that the daughter gets picked by divine powers to be a kind of "Manic Pixie Dream Girl" for some guy who's been Chosen for something, but instead of lying herself down to be walked on she takes control of her own destiny, even if it means she becomes "damned" and lost. It's pretty personal.

Hi, I’m writing a story based on the mythology of Lucifer’s fall from Heaven and need more angel-sounding names that aren’t names of real angels

What the title says.
There are supposed to be 12 fallen angels or more in my story. Searching up names was hair-tearing, it was very hard to gather angelic names. More suggestions would be helpful.

I had to look up multiple sources for names, and I didn’t want these names to be names of actual angels because some of these fallen angels are fictional. I want these names to be angelic-sounding as if they could be names of angels.
I couldn’t find the exact number of angels that fell, so I just gave up and went with my own interpretation of the story.

I have some names that I wanted opinions on, this took SO MUCH searching: Malthael, Zerael, Lauriel, Astrophel, Xaphania

What should I change my fairy OC's name to?

Ok, so originally this character came from a modern day story, and her name was supposed to be Hera. I've had this character for a long time with no use for her, and realized that she fits perfectly into this other fantasy story I've been writing. I think a Greek goddess' name would be kind of weird in a fantasy setting that has no inspiration or relation to Greek mythology, don't you? So I thought I should probably change it. My current options are:

Halo, Harp, Hartlyn (meh), or Honey

I want to stick close to her original name because she's had it for about four years now, and it would pain me to change it to something entirely different.

Character description: A fairy in a medieval fantasy setting with a very bold personality. She is assertive, intimidating, and easily angered/short-tempered. She is also childish at times, and a bit selfish, as well as struggling to stay serious or professional. In the story, she helps to teach a human how messed up the ways of their society has gotten.

Suggestions are welcomed with open arms. Her name also does not have to be anything meaningful, I don't bother to go that in depth, just something with a similar sharp vibe, but I don't want to give her too common of a name. Thank you so much!!

Last name for british/japanese guy and some other names

It’s been itching for me to write again, but I hate my characters last name, I wont post it here because its embarrassing (got a bit too obsessed with some show), but yeah I need a new one now.

The story is set in present day London (I am taking creative liberty with some things), its like a detective mystery of sorts with romance woven through it. Ultimately its a fanfic of a few not so well known fandoms, but they fit so perfectly together that I cant help myself. (the fandoms are Duskwood, Moonvale and the cryptic crimes stories netflix edition. But I also add some mysteries of my own)

So his mom is british and his dad is japanese. I’ll also take requests for names for the mom and dad, I havent really thought about names for them either. The dad is rich and influential.

So all I have right now is Jyouji (thats his first name, he gets called George more tho)

I do have a dead best friend (also japanese) who also needs a name.

Thank you for any names you can think of
