What can I do here as a tourist?

I am visiting my uncle in Avondale. I don’t have a car and my uncle + aunt are working everyday. I mostly came to just chill in a different environment but I didn’t know that I needed a car for everywhere (i am from Europe). Any advice on what I can do?

How is commuting from Philly to Exton?

I'm looking to attend a conference for work in Exton. I can either fly in to Philly, or Amtrak says there is a commuter extension line into Exton.

I'd never even heard of Exton before. Is it walkable for a person visiting and staying in a hotel? Any recommendations on hotels?

Limerick Siren This Morning

I'm not the only one who heard the sirens going off from about 9:40 to 9:55 today, right? I can't find anything on the web, and the radio stations they tell you to tune into didn't have info either.

EDIT: My neighbor says he heard it too (we are in Chester Springs), so at least I know I’m not completely crazy. I’m glad you guys didn’t hear it and it was probably something else.

There’s a vape & Zyn vending machine at the beer store in Conshy…

I saw this a few weeks ago when I stopped at the beer store in Conshy, Piermani’s & Son. I’ve seen these things on social media and such but not locally. I was in there again recently so figured I’d share…I did browse and they have a variety of Zyn as well as different kinds of vapes. Touchscreen and was easy to navigate/make a transaction. Interesting what you can put in a vending machine these days…

Hardscaping Issues

Hey local hardscape contractor here again — building off my previous post since it gained a lot of traction.

Ironically, since making that post, we’ve gotten quite a few inquiries about lift-and-relay patio repairs caused by failed sand/modified gravel base installs.

A lot of these patios look perfectly fine at first but a couple years, but after enough freeze/thaw cycles in PA, the movement starts:
• settling
• heaving
• standing water
• loose edges
• separation between pavers

Dense base materials hold water. Once that water freezes and expands through our winters, movement is almost inevitable over time.

That’s why we’ve moved almost entirely toward open-graded clean aggregate systems for patios and retaining wall backfill. Better drainage, less trapped water, and much better long-term performance around here.

Not saying every project needs to be overbuilt, but homeowners should absolutely ask contractors:
• what base material they’re using
• total excavation depth
• how drainage is being handled

I feel like every other patio/walkway you see at someone’s house is mangled in some way.

TOPIC 2
For the love of God, think about weather or not you really want a grey and block color scheme permanently installed outside. Unless it’s matching your freshly built white home with black shutters, let’s get some real damn color in your outdoor living space

Trivia nights or other last minute birthday plans?

Last minute get together for a friend’s birthday going out tomorrow on a Tuesday. Would rather not just sit and drink but I’m not sure of trivia/quiz events held locally. Open to other suggestions for a small group of adult women.

Considering painting activity or tilted axes as well. I searched the internet and local Facebook groups to no avail. TIA

Pizza in Chester County

So my favorite pizza place (Vitos in KOP) closed during the pandemic and have been trying to find something close to the style ever since. Their white pizza was amazing - great seasoning, dough was the best - slightly chewy, almost sweet and not bendy, not greasy. Figure it's a longshot but anyone have suggestions for a similar pizza place?

Any information on town hall meetings to discuss data centers?

Hello! Outside of Pennhurst and East Vincent township I haven’t heard much about data centers going up in our county but I want to be involved and have information on that.

Not having AI data centers in Pennsylvania is something I feel really strongly about, and while I’m not a political person in any means, this is something I want to be involved with and fight for. I want to see our beautiful state preserved, our agricultural thriving, and our communities healthy.

Has anyone else heard something I’m missing? I feel like no matter where I look I can’t seem to direct information on anything until after hall meetings have gone by. If anyone knows anything that would be a huge help, and hopefully we can come together as a community to fight this.

Bird Watching Spots

Finally got a decent pair of binoculars and looking for good spots to test them out. Really enjoyed checking the bald eagles out at Kerr Park in Downingtown this weekend.

Any recommendations for good bird watching spots in the area?

Question about Coatesville

So Im thinking over moving in to the area but I’ve heard the downtown area can be pretty sketchy. I found a place just north of the railroad tracks called “The Willows at Elmwood Garden” it looks pretty nice and there’s a couple of suburban style houses. So I was wondering if any locals could tell me if that area is a bit more safe? Overall the place seems like a good fit I’m just worried about it’s proximity to downtown

Lincoln University area?

Moving to the Chester County area and am considering Lincoln University because I noticed the houses are more affordable. What should I take into consideration as far as that area goes?

  • Ways to reduce home energy usage and utility bills

Spring Moon Rise

Marsh Creek State Park - May 2026
Spring Moon Rise

Well before sunrise, a waning crescent moon rises above the lake. The lack of recent rain is evident from the low water level. Shot with the Sony A99II and CZ 16-35 f/2.8 lens using a Lee100 GND filter. Camera mounted on a RRS tripod & head with a 3 Legged Thing universal mounting plate.

Awkward & Co

Hi there!

I’m starting a conversation because I can’t be the only one who feels this way! I’m in my early 30s, recently moved to Chester County but work in Delco and Lancaster County after finishing grad school, and want to meet new people! It’s getting nice out and I’d love to grab some coffee with a group of people at a local coffee shop to make new friends, hike somewhere to get some fresh air, go antiquing or to a farmer’s market, or cheer on the Phillies (sad about Flyers and 76ers getting swept but it’ll be football season before you know it, go birds). I have a tendency to be quiet and a homebody while wishing I could be more social, so I’m stepping out of my comfort zone here. I hope other people can relate and we can start a group!

Feel free to say hi and introduce yourself! 😊

Hair salons

Are there any good hair salons in Exton? Preferably ones that aren’t outrageously priced. Every single salon I’ve looked up between west Chester and Exton are $200 + for a trim and highlights. I also have very thin/fine hair. I refuse to pay that much for something I know takes less than an hour for me. I’ve been to wild honey before and although she did a good job it was 250 (with tip) for a cut and single process and my hair didn’t look that much different.
