Informational Meeting on Local Data Center Development LaPrade Library July 13 at 6:00

You can't watch the news or scroll online without reading about the data center industry in the U.S., but you may not know what is happening in our own backyard. Whether you are well-informed about the dozen or more approved data centers here or if you are just hearing about it for the first time, you are invited to a public meeting at the LaPrade Library Community Room at 6:00 pm on Monday, July 13th for a short Power Point and discussion.

Did you see the car accident at Old Buckingham and Alverser on Friday mid-afternoon? I need your help.

At around 3PM on Friday July 3rd, after having work done to my vehicle, a Technician test-drove the car and proceeded to get into a high-velocity accident at the 4-way stop intersection of Old Buckingham Road and Alverser Drive in my 2024 Subaru Impreza Wagon.

Chesterfield County Police, as well Fire & EMS all responded, both parties transported to the hospital. Based on what I do know, this was a severe accident and now the only car that my spouse and I own is effectively totaled.

There are sensitive details about this accident and the parties involved that I cannot disclose and while I do have the Police report, if anyone happened to witness the accident, I would greatly appreciate any details about what happened.

I haven’t even gotten to see my car yet due to every business being closed all weekend. I’ve only been told via the Police that my car is almost certainly totaled.

Thank you in advance for any help here.

Apologies for the terrible camera work. This had been going on for a bit before filming.

Fireworks

Anyone recommend any spots to watch fireworks without actually attending the event? Kid wants to see some tomorrow but between the heat and the crowd we’re not feeling the fairgrounds this year.

Seriously????

Last bill for my Chesterfield utility bill (Water) was $130.20. I accidentally paid $120.20. So today I get a bill for the $10 PLUS $1.50 penalty AND $.10 interest! Seriously? They couldn't just put the balance on the next bill? And to charge a penalty for 10 bucks and interest? I'd bet it cost them more than $1.60 to send the bill.

I sent them the $11.60 plus $.30, let's see if they pay me interest.

Nail salon for 4 year old?

I’ve seen a couple places offer services on their menu for kids. I even recall seeing a pink little child size pedicure station somewhere years ago. My daughter would really love to have a “spa” day that isn’t just me putting on the production for her at home. But I’m really nervous about her going to a salon so young. I’m also willing to be talked out of taking her if someone on here knows something about why it’s not a good idea.

Does anyone know of a place that has a good rep for being clean/safe and (I’m struggling to phrase this correctly) has a child-intended service to offer that isn’t just a discount off an adult’s service/accommodation. Like - I would like to find a place that has the kid-sized chairs and a nail tech that has worked with kids or doesn’t mind working with kids, rather than just somewhere that will just make it work, if you get what I’m saying? Obviously I want my daughter to have a fun experience way more than I care about the resulting nails.

TLDR: nail salon in the area that is good with younger kids?

Trusted Jeep Mechanic?

Hey guys! I’m new to this area, and I have a jeep wrangler that I’m very attached to. She’s due for service, and I need to find out what’s wrong with the AC (90% sure it’s a bad blower motor or condenser, but not totally positive and could use some verification so I can start planning financially for the repair). Official jeep dealerships are obviously outrageously overpriced. She’s had some mods, and I’d like to keep them in good shape.

If you are or know of a good and trusted mechanic for Jeeps, please let me know! TIA!

Expecting moms

In search of finding a group or some other expecting moms! I’m currently 26 weeks pregnant (27F) and looking to meet some pregnant or new moms. I don’t know anyone nearby with kids, and I’d love to build a support system/community before I deliver. Open to any suggestions on how/where to meet other expecting moms in the area.

Septic maintenance recommendations

Bought a house on septic, never had it before. Any recommendations for companies that handle septic maintenance or a go to for any septic issues?

Shred / e-cycling / hazardous waste drop-off tomorrow at Thomas Dale

Just a heads up for anyone in Chester/Chesterfield the county is doing a shred, e-cycling, and household hazardous waste drop-off tomorrow, Saturday June 27, from 9 AM to noon at Thomas Dale High School on W. Hundred Rd. Paper shredding is free up to five small boxes or grocery bags per person. They’re also taking electronics and household hazardous waste, but some electronics have fees. Figured I’d post it because this is the kind of thing people usually don’t hear about until after it’s over.

Google's $9B bet on a trio of Chesterfield data center campuses

Chesterfield County looks poised — perhaps in less than two years — to become home to 1,500 acres of Google data centers, as the tech company makes a $9 billion investment in data center "campuses" in three locations across the county.

The first campus announced last year, Project Peanut, is slated to go into Chester on Bermuda Hundred Road. The second site, Project Skye, is to be built on Watkins Center Parkway in Midlothian. And the third center, Project Loch, is slated for Moseley Road, west of state Route 288.

Chesterfield residents have voiced concerns over what they consider to be a lack of transparency, including use of nondisclosure agreements, from the county's board of supervisors, which greenlit the three projects in a public vote while concealing Google's involvement. An online petition is circulating demanding more accountability from the board.

Mary Finley-Brook, a professor and researcher at the University of Richmond and a Chesterfield County resident, has been studying issues relating to data centers — in particular, their environmental impacts and the effects of NDAs on the public's access to information about them. She first heard of Google's plans to build data centers in Chesterfield last summer.

"As I'm talking about how this is going down in other locations, it was actually happening in my own community, and I didn't know because of a nondisclosure agreement," Finley-Brook told VPM News.

I'm looking for someone to renovate my shower

I’m planning to renovate my shower and replace the tile, as the existing tile is worn out, cracked in some areas, and starting to look dated.

I’ve heard different opinions on the best approach. Some people recommend tearing everything out down to the substrate, while others say it’s possible to install new tile over the existing tile. I’m also not entirely sure how important it is to add or update the waterproofing during the renovation.

At this point, I’m leaning toward hiring a contractor who can handle the entire project from start to finish, including preparation, waterproofing, and tile installation.

Chesterfield taps Kalamazoo’s Kevin Catlin for county leadership

After a nationwide search, the Chesterfield County Board of Supervisors selected Kevin Catlin as the next county administrator. It’s the first time a Black person has been named to the local post.

Catlin, 35, comes to Chesterfield from Kalamazoo County, Michigan, where he was also the county administrator and controller. In that role, he managed a $325 million annual budget and a workforce of about 1,000, according to a press release. At $2.3 billion and roughly 4,000 people, Chesterfield’s purse and staff headcount are significantly larger.

“I'm not arriving with the belief that I have all the answers,” Catlin told the crowd at the 1917 Courthouse Monday. “And in fact, one of the reasons I was attracted to this opportunity is because of the strength of the team already in place.”

Catlin, who starts in the role on Aug. 24, replaces the departing Joe Casey, whose retirement (announced in December) is effective July 1. Deputy County Administrator Matt Harris will serve as the interim until late August.

F24 Can anyone around spare some ?

Sorry, this is unrelated to this sub. I'm kinda new here, I am a Type 1 and I just wanted to ask if anyone knows a diabetic person who can spare me some insulin? I use Fiasp. I ran out of my vial last night and can't afford a refill. I'm supposed to take my insulin in 30 min. I'm super broke and worried right now.
