A ladder with no steps

I have been with Circle K a little over a year now. I've had goals since before I was even hired on of climbing the ladder as I have an end goal of attaining upper management. Yes, I chose to start as a beginner given my experience so that I could observe and learn from the ground up. I feel it's the best way to truly understand every given job aspect. I do have strong prior experience in retail, management and accounting. My concern is I have been told twice now that I would be promoted and each time it's offered and I accept nothing happens afterwards. I'd very much like to take that next step but it appears the steps keep disappearing..

All feedback is appreciated!

Paperwork

Quick question. Recently my store has gotten a new SM. I work overnights and he has added sending in the paperwork and lotto audits to my duties. Is this normal or is my SM lazy?

Can I contact someone above my former store manager?

Ok, really long story. I recently quit my job at circle k, and I’m wondering if there’s a way to contact someone above the store manager about his behavior. I’m not looking to get anyone fired or start drama; I genuinely want to know if there’s a corporate/HR person, district manager, or someone else I can report concerns to.
For some context, this manager had a reputation for being extremely difficult with employees. Almost everyone who worked there had some kind of issue with him, and even customers would make comments about his attitude. I personally dealt with him yelling at me and intimidating me when he was upset. One of the biggest situations happened around Christmas. He posted the schedule, I bought a ticket based on it, and then about an hour later he said he had made a mistake and changed the schedule. When I told him I had already bought the ticket, he called me and basically yelled at me and questioned whether I even needed the job.
There were also multiple times when I was genuinely sick. One time I was literally throwing up and could barely stand without feeling like I was going to vomit again. I called him, and he still asked if I could come in for a couple hours because there was nobody else. I tried, but I physically couldn’t. When I called back, he got upset about not having coverage, and I ended up getting written up. I had followed the training and communicated with him, so that situation really bothered me.
I also noticed a pattern in how he treated different employees. I was usually willing to do whatever he asked without arguing, and I did my share of cleaning, stocking, register work, trash, mopping, etc. But there were employees who would argue back with him or push back on things, and he seemed to treat them differently. He would also talk negatively about employees behind their backs.
There was an assistant-manager situation that also made me question things. S had actually been an assistant manager before J ever came to the store. S eventually stepped down, J became assistant manager #1, and after J left/transferred, S returned to the position as assistant manager #1. There were multiple times when management discussed whether I should be considered for an assistant-manager position, but nobody ever actually offered it to me. Eventually N, who was a newer employee, became assistant manager #2. I’m not upset simply because I didn’t get the position, but the way everything happened was confusing, especially because N herself asked me why I hadn’t gotten it.
I also had concerns about being scheduled late at night. I sometimes had to walk home around 11 PM, and I had strangers in cars stop and ask if I needed a ride. Customers even recognized me from seeing me walking home. I told my manager that I was uncomfortable and asked if my schedule could be rotated more, but it basically stayed the same.
The final straw happened shortly before I quit. He posted in the group chat questioning why certain breakfast items hadn’t been sold and specifically mentioned me, even though I hadn’t worked that morning. I responded that I hadn’t worked, but he continued questioning me publicly. A coworker later told me he had said he intentionally included me even though he knew I wasn’t working said shift, that’s what shock me. Also, the fact that once I answered one of his questions in the chat my coworker also again he was talking about me being disrespectful?? Dude, I answered what you asked. I was already frustrated with everything, so I decided I was done.
I went in and quit immediately. He actually tried to convince me to stay and explained that he was stressed, had a lot of paperwork and responsibilities, and sometimes felt like he had to clean the store himself. During that conversation, he also made a comment about preferring to work with women because, essentially, “women don’t complain” and are more likely to just do what they’re told. That honestly shocked me.
When I brought up the group-chat situation, he apologized and said he had gotten confused and didn’t mean to single me out. He said he did it in the group chat because he wanted everyone to see it and learn from the example. Liar, but I wasn’t going to throw my coworker under the bus.
I’ve also been told that other employees have tried to complain about him to someone above him before, but I don’t know exactly who they contacted or what happened afterward. Allegedly, somebody is protecting him, ALLEGEDLY. From what I’ve heard, nothing really changed.
So my actual question is: is there normally someone above a store manager that I can contact about this? A district manager, HR, corporate, employee relations, etc.? I don’t work there anymore, so I’m not sure if I’m even allowed to make a complaint after quitting. I also don’t know who I’m supposed to contact or how to find the right person because I did text someone, I don’t know what he was tho lol. I sent a really proper message asking if I could have a chat with him whenever he got the chance. Once he knew it was me and my store, he never responded again. this was 3 days later.
If anyone knows how this usually works, I’d really appreciate some advice.

Single toilet bathrooms

I have the hardest time at work using my stores own bathroom because customers are always in it! I swear to god they come to our store just to use the bathroom. Some don’t even buy anything or say anything the just rush right by me or the counter and go straight to the bathroom. I get so pissed because I have had to hold it waiting until my stomach hurts. If these stores are going to have single toilet bathrooms they need to have a staff only one. Besides lotto customers I would have to say this is one of my chief complaints. I have even seen lines to our bathroom and we are not that big of a store.

Rant/Quick story.

I’ve been with the company over a year and a half, worked my way up the ladder, worked plenty of hours covered overnight shifts even when I had to work early in the morning and push through the double.

Our store had 3 different store managers since I’ve been employed there. A few months back the second store manager promoted me to assistant manager, then left with hardly any training like paperwork and what not. The past couple months we’ve had a lady come fill in and monitor our store, do payroll and all that. She asked me to come in and help her a couple weeks ago super late at night so I did when I looked at my timesheet. She deleted the hours that I came in roughly 8 hours.
The next day I come in, she’s in the back moving all weird look like meth head stuff bent over, tweaking hard. I asked are you OK? She said she pissed herself. She pissed all in the back of the store then used our rags that we get from a third-party company to clean up the mess. I’m sure it’s all on camera. She was butt naked. I didn’t see her though. I was just told she was naked not to go back there. So she was high on meth staying at the store probably 72 hours straight sleeping in the office going home to take a shower coming right back and then she had the nerve to delete my hours. I was so fucking mad I told upper management about everything and nothing happened to my knowledge and she still employed with the company being high on meth and deleting my hours that I worked. I’m not too smart when it comes to legality of working hours, but I feel like that’s super illegal.

I was covering an overnight last night and I legit got sick threw up in the trashcan next to me. Luckily there wasn’t any customers in the store. So I called the other assistant asked her to come in for three hours, she was super rude and told me to call the store manager, so I did. I called him and told him that I was sick and then I was throwing up in the trashcan and said I can’t find anyone to come in for the three hours to finish then proceeded to tell me that he’s gonna have to cut my hours. That sent me through the roof. I freaked out on him. And told him just to cut my hours down to nothing because I will not be returning.

Sorry, most of this is speech to text. There’s a lot more to it, but I’m not gonna bore anyone else.

I am noticing something

Call me a conspiracy theory lover but I think I am on to something. I have watched these guys cut labor and pay more and more over the years. More and more we get into trouble for not using AI whether it’s for ordering or scheduling. They outsourced the help desk and outsourced our audits. Also they severely cut store managers pay and bonuses. The SM pay is laughable now. I am also seeing managers who were getting those higher pay rates drop like flys and either age out or get fired. It was completely doable to earn 100k as a SM before now not anymore. I think they are moving towards 100 percent automation which is why we are required more and more to work as skeleton crews. Think about the percentage of customers they want through mashgin. I will not be surprised to see 2-4 employees per store in the coming years purely to service the robots that took our jobs. The intricacies of how the plays out? God only knows. I know it’s hard right now but I would suggest preparing. Big corporations have sold us out and I don’t think we are mad enough. I have to say legion is a joke it schedules people as if they were robots and the mashgin lol constant problems with that thing. However I also think that’s why the economy is doing so bad. It’s so they can reset and go to a different currency that will work with these robots better…. all digital. Nothing is a coincidence anymore. Please get out there and vote because I really think we are all about to get screwed.

What's y'all end goal??

This is not a post to bash anybody, just an observation. I do ShiftSmart at about 12/13 different stores. There's only 1 person that I see out of all of those stores that constantly studies and does school work while on the clock. She's doing something pertaining to nursing.

What's y'all end goal working for Circle K? I have 1 store that I go to, and it has a list of employees with their start dates on them. 1 lady started in 1986, same store, and not even a supervisor.

Do y'all plan on moving up? Are you guys going to trade school, or college while working? Are y'all comfortable with where y'all are? I'm just genuinely curious. No hate.

I got scammed out of a gas discount.

The machine mysteriously had no receipt paper in so I had to go in and ask for a receipt….. come to find out their machine never applied the $0.25/gal discount!

Edit: I was wrong 🤦 they gave me the discount… the gas prices were higher than I thought.

XL 44 oz cup of ice. Free or cost money? at circle k

I always get a XL 44 oz cup of soda & drinks. If I wanted a 2nd XL 44 oz cup, no drink, just ice, does circle k give it for free? or how much money they charge? does it depend on franchise or corporate?
