Recurring Fear of Blades
I'm aiming to get alot of my trauma off my chest and put pen to paper, so I'll be aiming to share a lot of these over the coming days and weeks. Please share your own as you are comfortable to do so.
A minor issue (relative to everything else) I've run into is a recurring fear of blades, knives- any sharp edges. This carries over into other aspects of my life, frequently interrupted my already erratic train of thought.
I find myself having recurring nightmares of being cut or otherwise mutilated in some other way. I've had vivid, lucid dreams that I was a newborn being circumcised, without anesthetic and fully aware/awake. I've had dreams I was the man who went the hospital with a broken leg and woke up circumcised due to medical arrogance and incompetence.
I find myself imagining, and vividly fearing, increasingly, wildly, unlikely events. The office I work at is getting renovated, and there were tradies on the floor beneath me using power tools of all sorts. Power tools are part of my line of work, this is not a sound I'm unfamiliar with. But as they were directly underneath me I heard them cutting into the walls and dividers, and all I could imagine was through some freak accident them cutting through the floor and slicing my genitals. It's insanely irrational, it would take a literally impossible Final Destination-esque rube goldberg machine of events to even make that possible. And yet it was all I could think about for hours. The fear consumes me.
I'm terrible in the kitchen, I take an hour to dice vegetables that would take an average person less than 5 minutes. Knives make me sweat and I absolutely despise handling them or being near them. I shave every day in the shower, and every day in the shower I spend the entire time warily eyeing my razor to make sure it doesn't fall and slice me. One time it nearly did.
So many things trigger this fear and all I can think of is threats to what little tatters remain of my genital autonomy. I'm fiercely protective of what little foreskin I have left/have restored, and I'm incredibly frustrated that this has added just one more area in which I cant function like a normal human being.
It truly has a Freudian aspect to it. I am convinced the Danish research linking autism and circumcision has merit. The psychological impacts of this barbaric practice on day old infants is utterly profound, and the practice will probably die out before we ever truly manage to map out just how wide-reaching the mental damage it causes is.
