Lingo CGM for prediabetic use, experiences and reviews

Considering using a CGM to assist with my health journey, and Lingo seems to be both the most consistent and more affordable option. I've done the doom scrolling searching for reviews, but it's hard to sift through the junk that inevitably crowds out any actual human experiences. So-- going to try just asking. Has anyone here actually used the Lingo CGM, just to get an idea of blood sugar spikes and the relationship with different foods and exercise on blood sugar, and what was your experience? Probably not going to use it long term, but currently considering the 12pk/6 month option. Thanks!

Built a little bedside screen for a colleague that just shows the number, so the phone can stay on the charger at night

A colleague of mine has T1D, and the thing she described as quietly wearing her down wasn't the highs or the lows — it was the ritual. Wake up, find the phone, unlock it, wait for the app, squint at a bright screen at 3am. Every single night.

So I spent a few weekends building a small screen for her nightstand that does exactly one thing: show the current value, the trend arrow and the last few hours as a graph. Nothing to unlock, nothing to swipe. During the day it sits there like a clock; at night it either dims right down or switches to a dim amber display that doesn't wreck your night vision. It talks to Dexcom Share, the same way the follower apps do.

Two things surprised me while building it. First, how much difference it makes to just glance at a number instead of performing a whole sequence of actions to see it — she checks more often now, and worries less. Second, the official developer route from Dexcom is deliberately delayed by an hour in the US and three hours in the EU, which makes it useless for anything live. Share is the only realistic path, which explains why the whole DIY corner of this world is built on it.

To be very clear: it's a hobby build and absolutely not a medical device. Values come through Share so they can lag, drop out or be plain wrong. Every actual decision still happens on her official app or with a fingerstick. The very first screen the thing shows says exactly that, because I wanted the device itself to keep reminding us both.

What I'm really curious about is how the rest of you handle nights. Does your phone live on the nightstand, or somewhere you have to reach for it? Would you want a screen like this to alarm on its own, or does a second alarm source just add noise to something your app already handles? And for anyone who's been at this a lot longer than me — what would you put on a screen like that which I probably haven't thought of?

(Everything I wrote is public under an open licence for anyone who likes tinkering, but I'll keep links out of the post — happy to point people the right way if the mods are fine with it.)

Monitor your blood glucose levels on the Hammerhead Karoo

Hi, I have developed an app that allows you to monitor your blood glucose levels while you ride your bike. It runs on the Hammerhead Karoo bike computer. GluKaMon is now out of beta and it's free.  Full description of it on the web site: glukamon.com

Highlights:

  • K2 and K3 Support — Works on both Karoo 2 and Karoo 3 and works over any network connection available (internal SIM chip or tethered to phone)
  • 48 customizable data tiles across eleven categories — Visualize your data how you prefer
  • Four CGM providers supported — Dexcom Share, FreeStyle Libre (via LibreLinkUp), Nightscout, and xDrip/Juggluco (local connection). Nighscout/xDrip support means it works with pretty much any CGM on the market
  • Three time periods — most tile families come in 1-minute, 5-minute, and 15-minute variations
  • Configurable glucose zones — set your own Very Low / Low / Target / High / Very High thresholds
  • Visual and audible notices — when your glucose enters a new zone, with tones tuned to both Karoo 2 and Karoo 3 speakers
  • Dark and light mode — follows your Karoo's system theme automatically
  • mg/dL or mmol/L — pick your preferred unit
  • FIT-file recording — glucose values embedded in your ride file for post-ride analysis in tools like Intervals.icu
  • 10 languages — All 10 Karoo supported languages: English, German, Spanish, French, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese
  • Battery-aware design — three polling modes (1 minute5 minutes, or Dynamic, which dynamically adjusts based on the rate at which glucose readings are seen)
  • Robust Recovery — Designed to detect and recover common CGM and network errors
  • "Local" Support — GluKaMon can connect to xDrip and/or Juggluco running either locally on your Android phone (via WiFi hotspot) or sideloaded (i.e. sideload xDrip on your Karoo) so you can monitor your glucose even where there is no internet connection

Dexcom G7

First time using a CGM and not a big fan of needles, but I’m used to using the finger sticker. Unit failed during warmup after three minutes. Is this a common occurrence? If it is, I think I might pass.

Concerned about possible LADA

I’m becoming quite concerned that I might have LADA/something is going on. I’m in my mid 20s, no diagnosed health issues, very active. Around December my A1C was 4.8. In March it was 5.4 (haven’t checked since). My doctor wasn’t concerned.

My fasting and overnight glucose has gone from 80-90 to a little over 100. The past few days I’ve slept and overnight glucose is usually around 100-110. I rarely go below 100 anymore. I have almost daily spikes to around 200, but it does eventually return back down. As of this morning I’ve been fasting (only drank water) for ~15-16 hours and I’m still above 100 (also did a moderate workout this morning which didn’t really do anything for it).

I suspect I could be in the early stages of LADA or T1. T2 doesn’t seem to fit because of my age, weight, activity level, and no family history, but I guess you never know. It doesn’t seem normal, but it also doesn’t seem bad enough to result in any actual treatment (if it is something). I have tried going to low carb for a bit and it didn’t change much, but I certainly want to get these glucose responses back to normal ASAP but haven’t had any luck.

My A1c Was 5.7%, CGM Data Finally Got Me to Walk After Meals

Earlier this year, my A1c came back at 5.7%.

I’d heard “walk after meals” for years—from my parents and from doctors. I knew it was good advice, but it never really changed my behavior.

Then I wore a CGM for two weeks.

My breakfast is usually the same: oatmeal, milk, and protein powder. I compared days when I took a 10–15 minute walk after breakfast with days when I didn’t.

Blue = 10–15 minute walk within 30 minutes after breakfast. Orange = no walk.

In my small dataset, the average rise from pre-meal glucose to peak was:

  • No walk: +34 mg/dL
  • 10–15 min walk: +22 mg/dL

Not a controlled experiment, of course, and CGMs aren’t perfectly accurate. But seeing the difference in my own glucose changed my behavior in a way generic advice never did.

Now I walk after breakfast almost automatically. I don’t need a goal, reminder, or much willpower anymore.

That was probably the biggest thing I learned from using a CGM: the data made an abstract health recommendation feel concrete and personal.

It also made me start thinking in small experiments instead of trying to overhaul everything at once: walk after a meal, change a portion size, compare different foods, and see what actually matters for me.

I documented the full two-week experiment here:

For those of you using a CGM: did seeing your own data actually change any of your habits?

Lingo discount code?

Does anyone have a discount code I can use? They are limited to 20 uses I think, so any code that’s been posted here for more than a fee hours doesn’t work anymore.

Dexcom g7 vs Libre 3

So I recently switched to Dexcom and I noticed wayyyyy more highs than on the libre. On the libre my glucose was always going below 70 and never above 145. With the Dexcom it’s never below 80 and spikes to like 180. Neither of them seem to be accurate to my finger sticks. I’ve only tried them on the backs of my arms. Does anyone have any recommendations for a better cgm or maybe a better placement? I’m so tired of not having accurate results. (I don’t have diabetes, I monitor glucose because of gastroparesis) TIA!!!!

I compared 5 meals that each had roughly 50g of carbs. The glucose responses were surprisingly different

The peak increase ranged from only +23 mg/dL to +68 mg/dL.

https://preview.redd.it/39ufgs3i3cjh1.png?width=1901&format=png&auto=webp&s=4ee7b00a78afb2cc0a080482313327549c7348e4

Here are glucose peak increases for these meals:

  • Chicken + chickpeas + cabbage + pistachios: +23
  • Instant noodles + fish/eggs/vegetables: +31–41
  • Chicken nuggets + apple: +60
  • Pasta + beef: +68

The pasta surprised me the most. I had assumed that if the carb counts were similar, the glucose responses would at least be somewhat similar.

After looking at my CGM data, I’m starting to think of carb count as more of a starting point than a prediction. The type of carbs and what I eat with them seem to matter a lot.

I plotted the full CGM curves and explained the comparison here if anyone is interested: https://youtu.be/mArqUz1480U

Took cgm off for a week gained 5lbs

I’ve been wearing a CGM since May and I’ve lost 20 pounds..
I check my weight every morning.

I used intermittent fasting while avoiding glucose spikes and drops.

I decided to finally take it off and try without it for a little and I’ve gained 5 pounds…

I have been eating guilt free the last week, with no immediate numbers that show me my glucose I have been overeating…

I ended up putting a new one on this afternoon…

Ready to get back on the wagon.

Has anyone else had weight gain after taking off their continuous glucose monitor?

Not diabetic nor would my insurance cover it. Anyone paying cash for Eversense?

I’m really interested in Eversense, but even if I can get a doctor to prescribe it, the cash price looks pretty rough.

Has anyone here paid out of pocket for one? What did it actually cost?

I also don’t really understand why a CGM needs a prescription. If I know insurance won’t cover it and I’m willing to pay for it myself, why can’t I just buy one?

I wore 4 CGMs at once to compare them

https://preview.redd.it/rll715bdogih1.png?width=2756&format=png&auto=webp&s=af305835266b9dca84e356b25fefa13ed0a5ed1f

I wore 2 Stelos and 2 Lingos simultaneously for this experiment (using 2 iPhones) Because of sensors and cloud service issues, I was only able to get ~1 week of overlap between all 4 sensors.

At some points, the glucose values between CGMs were 77 mg/dL apart!

But if you ignore the differences in absolute values, the shape of the trends and spikes are pretty similar. My takeaway is that we should not be paying attention to how much time we are in the healthy 140-70 range (because sometimes a sensor said I was high while the 3 other sensors said I was in range), but rather look at how many steep spikes we have.

I also have finger stick, Oura ring sleep data, activity and food logs, which I plan to overlay on this graph.
I plan to make the data and python code (JupyterLab notebook) available if anyone is interested in doing more analysis or checking my work.

Sensor ungenau

Stelo app issues

The new Stelo app is terrible and almost unusable. It is difficult for me to see my glucose levels and the graph totally disappears when I’m not wearing a sensor. So that means I can’t see full historical data, only a summary.

Most of the app is now coaching and insights. I just want to see my glucose levels!

I tried to post in the Stelo channel but it seems to be locked down. Are there any Stelo users here? How can I get the old app back?
