Using CGM to navigate lack of feeling body signals

Hi everyone!

I’m autistic and have adhd and struggle with something called interoception, where I don’t always feel when I’m hungry, thirsty, cold etc.

I’m slowly trying to incorporate tools to help me neglect myself less. I’ve been using the Oura Ring to help me with my sleep and it’s been really great. Instead of just feeling horrible and wondering why, I can now see when I have a sleep deficit. And then - oh wonder - I feel better when I take a nap. 😀

But my interoception is also bad when it comes to food. I sometimes just wanna eat 2 chocolate bars and then I’m thinking that I don’t have any self control.
But learning about interoception I can now confidently say that my biggest issue seems to be to eat at all when I’m hungry, because I can’t always read my hunger cues. So no wonder I need to eat chocolate in the evening if I’m starving myself the whole day.
I’ve become better with eating more regularly, but I feel like I need more external help.

So I’ve been considering buying a CGM (continuous glucose monitoring) device. I’m looking for something that can tell me in real time if I need to eat, and ideally if the meal should be carb/protein/fat heavy.
I’ve come across Lingo, Stelo and Ultrahuman M1, that have an app that seems to promise exactly this. However, as most are for people who just want to lose weight and optimi their nutrition, but maybe not people who struggle with executive dysfunction, I’ve been wondering if anyone on here has tried any CGM with 24/7 sensor and an app, and can share if it helped for the interoception issues, executive dysfunction and helped them to eat better and more regularly?
Btw I’m also insulin resistant, in case that’s relevant to know.

I would very much appreciate your help, thank you!

Cgm average glucose vs cgm estimate a1c vs lab a1c

So, the American Duabetes organization says A1C 5.7 (cutoff start prediabetes) would be 117 glucose average..

Now, my Cgm had made me think I am doing great, mid to upper 90 average (depending on interval). I thought i was in the clear. ...Now, the cgm app (clarity) estmated 5.6 as my A1C. Which would map to glucose of 114. Actual Lab A1C test was even higher. I wore the cgm almost continuously for 3 month preceedings the lab test. There were no compression lows. ( first cgm day readings can look szrange sometimes )

So, is the glucose to A1C mapping of the American diabetes association off/outdated? It seems that the maker of the cgm believe so since their algorithm translates a given glucose average into something much higher than than the A1C the American Diabetes organization.

Anyone willing to comment on what their experience is. ( average glucose, A1C estimate, A1C lab test).

What values are you targeting day to day as your fasting glucose and average?

Has anyone tested the same meal with vs. without a short walk after eating?

I’m trying to be more boring and consistent with CGM experiments instead of reacting to every dot.

One test I’m considering is: same or very similar lunch on two days, roughly same portion, similar starting glucose if possible. One day I sit normally afterward. Another day I take a 10–15 minute easy walk starting about 15–30 minutes after eating.

Then compare the peak and the 2–3 hour recovery, not just whether it crosses a single number.

Has anyone here tried this and found it useful? If yes, what did you keep constant so the comparison actually meant something — timing, sleep, carbs, stress, caffeine, etc.?

Not looking for medical advice; I’m more interested in how people designed a clean personal experiment.

Low bf% application

I’ve been taking Reta for a bit and I know that it says down your gut, but I was curious to see how much it slows mine down and how it affects my carb intake. I’m not trying to gloat or anything, but I don’t know if I can put the applicator on my tricep. I think that it would just end up going in the muscle and be annoying. The only fatty spot I could find was my glute so I ended up applying it there. Any other spot was a little too lean, and it would’ve just fit the muscle just from looking at the needle. Just wondering if anybody has had to do something like this also and how off it is. I would rather have a worse reading than it be irritating . Thank you.

Anyone else look like this?

wondering if this looks like there’s an issue with my Dexcom. I get these readings fairly frequently maybe a couple days per week. this day I ate more carbs than usual. not on insulin and failed a metformin trial several months ago.

Lingo placement

Is there a very specific place to put the lingo sensor? I’m getting a new one sent to me because it’s been around 40 points off and was scaring me (said I spend almost 30% of my time below 70 and most of that was the 50s or lower) before I realized it wasn’t correct. They did send me a replacement but I want to make sure I’m placing it right this time. I do have some arm chub 😅 could that be causing the issue?

(I did just get dupixent injected into the back of my arms today so I’ll have to go slightly higher next time I place it so it’s not the exact same spot)

Lingo CGM Review: 3 faulty sensors in 4 months and a 20+ point discrepancy vs. lab work. Save your money?

To preface, I do not have gestational diabetes, but because of some borderline results, my OB-gyn said I likely have some insulin resistance so I wanted to keep track of my sugars.

I've been using lingo or the past 3-4 months with varying results, but after their customer service fail, I'm just upset.

  1. I've had 3 faulty sensors. One died in 48 hours. The second caused bleeding, never started, and gave a "Biosensor ended early" error (Lingo app said they'd replace it; they haven't yet). Now, my current one won't pair with my phone.

  2. Lingo is consistently lower than my fingersticks (sometimes only by 8 points, sometimes by 20+ points). During my 3 hour glucose tolerance test, Lingo peaked at 111 while the lab draws peaked at 133. I know CGMs have a lag/offset compared to blood, but a 22-point difference during a controlled test feels outside the margin of error for meaningful tracking.

  3. Customer support: I messaged them about the bloody sensor and it took over 2 weeks for a reply. **They asked me to mail the sensor back—a sensor that was covered in blood which I had (obviously) thrown away 16 days prior.**

Honestly, I could call them but I'm very pregnant. Between 2x weekly OB appointments, insurance calls, and a stressful job, staying on hold with a tech company is at the bottom of my totem pole.

I think I’m moving to Stelo once I finish the Lingo sensors I have left. Let me know if anyone has moved over to Stelo from Lingo.

CGM Representation in Media and Film

Hello,

I am a PhD student in Design, Technology, and Society and I am conducting a research study on how people with type 1 diabetes understand and respond to continuous glucose monitors (CGMs) in everyday life and in media representation. As a person with type 1 diabetes myself, working within the fields of cognitive film theory and perception, I place high importance on research that improves the representation and presence of type 1 diabetes in cinema. I am inviting individuals to take part in a short online study if they:

•have type 1 diabetes,
•currently use a CGM or have used one in the past,
•are aged 18 or older, or are aged 13–17 with parent/legal guardian permission.

The study is in English and takes approximately 8–12 minutes to complete. Participation is entirely voluntary, and no directly identifying personal information will be collected. The study also includes questions about the brief representation of a CGM in Inside Out 2 (2024).

Thank you for considering participation.

Frustrated by cgm results

I know I should be happy, but I was hoping for more information to help me make changes, instead of just a couple of small tweaks.

The good news is I am less insulin resistant than I thought. The few spikes (140 and under)I had came right back down. I stay around 80-100 all day eating how I normally do (low carb). My CMI was 5.6 for 14 days, and that was testing carbs.

The changes will be no carbs after 3pm, and if I eat any it needs to be in the morning with fat & protein. I was hoping exercise would affect my numbers more, but it did not. I still want to be more consistent.

Now a couple of questions:

Dawn effect- what has helped to lower it? And do you sleep better or worse with low night numbers? What is a goal number when you go to sleep at night?

What type of exercise has helped you the most?

Is it worth doing another 15 days to sort our exercise, ACV, dawn effect? I feel like i am more lacks in what I eat because I can write if off as a "test".

Bleeding when I apply cgm

I apply CGM this morning and it’s bleeding. The bleeding stopped now. Where I was wondering if I should take it off and apply a new one or should I continue using this one?

How long can you have a sensor “installed” before you turn it on?

I’m going to be traveling and I want to apply a new sensor before my current sensor has expired. How long can a wear a new sensor before activating it?
