Supplementing copper

Hi all! I’ve noticed since starting my copper meds, I have a significant increase in appetite. I started the supplement because I’m severely deficient after testing it twice months apart. I don’t know if the appetite change is related? Has anyone noticed the same thing?

Does anyone here have a copper deficiency that they are unable to resolve?

I have had a severe copper deficiency for years that I have been unable to resolve. I also suffer from histamine intolerance and SIBO.

Despite supplementation, my copper levels do not rise. This remains true even when I cut out zinc and stop taking Vitamin C—the levels still do not increase.

The only explanation I can think of is that, due to a lack of stomach acid, I am unable to absorb copper efficiently enough in my gut. For this reason, I tried taking copper glycinate, but that didn't help either. Furthermore, I have G6PD, which is also said to be linked to copper metabolism, as it is a form of anemia. Does anyone here have any experience with this, or are you facing the same problem?

My lab all in range

My lab all in range for copper & Ceruloplasmin. I was taking zinc 15mg last year for 4 months and this year I restarted

again same time with organic highly bioavailable pumpkin seed I didn’t know that have a lot zinc. I started to feel cold and internally shaking. I’m not sure what’s wrong. Somebody told me pumpkin seeds is high zinc too could it be it lower my copper.

Doctor says hey you’re normal range means it’s can’t be your copper. My selenium’s just one point pass the normal range and I am still low n in vitamin D and magnesium calcium therefore the PTH elevated. Copper glycinate is what I can get but doctor says if lab is normal means you don’t need it

Does anybody gets cold 🥶 while copper is low ? Can you share your experience thanks

What Are Your “Weird” Copper Deficiency Symptoms?

If you have a confirmed copper deficiency diagnosis — or you’re very confident you’re low in copper — what were your “weird” symptoms?

I’m not talking about the more commonly acknowledged ones like graying hair, pale skin, chronic fatigue, anemia, etc. I mean the symptoms that didn’t immediately seem related to copper deficiency.

I’ll start:

  • pots / heart palpitations
  • high heart rate
  • chronic fatigue (of course)
  • hair greying (obviously)
  • super heavy cycle
  • chronic bloating
  • chronic candida
  • herniated discs
  • neck pain
  • poor night vision
  • easy bruising
  • sodium and potassium not retaining much in body
  • insomnia
  • hair loss
  • can't tolerate stress
  • can't tolerate heat or cold
  • poor memory/concentration

Low Copper WB, Copper Serum, Ceruloplasmin

So this is my first post, I would like to share my labs and get opinion’s of what I should do next.. My current Copper WB measures 0.58 ug/mL, Copper Serum 39 ug/dL, Ceruloplasmin 9.7 mg/dL. Zinc 73 ug/dL “normal within range of 44-115”. These #’s have stayed basically the same for the past year (several labs confirmed). Test’s that my gastro did was 24 hour Urine Copper measuring 6 ug/24hr “normal range was 3-35”, Kayser Fleischer rings “none detected by ophthalmologist”, Endoscopy & Colonoscopy Negative test for Celiac Sprue, Liver Ultrasound nothing remarkable. I’m assuming not Wilson’s, I did not have a liver biopsy performed or offered? I have tried 2mg Copper for a couple weeks in past and after stopping, I switched to a diet rich in Copper, numbers seemed to hover around the same? I have found that I just can’t find a Dr. or NP that know’s how or what to do next, stuck in limbo.

Supplementing Copper in order to recover from iron deficiency

Hi !

I constantly suffer from having low iron . I recently got my CBC done in which my hb was 7.4 . I have been reading a lot that how copper is one of the co-factor in iron regulation.

I don’t know if I have low copper levels but I do have white hair . My B12 is 498 and d3 is 30 . I workout regularly. But I still have this condition.

Was really thinking about supplementing with copper bisgylcinate . Has anyone tried it and saw any noticeable difference?

I am already consuming iron tabs with vitamin C .

Thank you!

Can anyone help me here?

Hi !

I saw so many posts of people in this sub regarding their various copper issues.
Now I am really interested to know that how does one come across feeling copper deficient?
Or else what was your case when doctor said that you should get tested for ceruplasmin?

I am myself currently dealing with iron issues and landed up here .

Take care
Thank you!

Has anyone tested their estrogen levels?

Has anyone with difficulty raising their ceruloplasmin levels tested their estrogen levels?

Similar to retinol, it seems that adequate estrogen may be needed for ceruloplasmin production.

I’m a male with normal testosterone but low estrogen, and I’ve had difficulty raising my ceruloplasmin levels. I was curious if anyone else has experienced something similar or has any insight. I wonder if that could be my root cause.

Question/Poll for people with long COVID: did you take zinc?

For those who developed long COVID and still haven’t recovered, I’m curious: were you taking zinc when you got COVID? Were you mega dosing zinc, vitamin D, or vitamin C at any point before, during, or after the infection?

And what are your main long covid symptoms?

Please only answer if you have/had long covid.

Normal serum copper, low caeruloplasmin, high free copper

Hello!!!

I had my zinc/copper tested. Zinc and copper were fine, but caeruloplasmin was low (0.25 - normal range 0.24 to 0.60) and free copper was high (34 - normal range 5-25).

I have been reccomended some supplements to assist with this and we will re-asses in 3 months., However I am curious if anyone out there has any experience/input as i, of course, would love to learn more, or if there is any tips, advice etc. As they say, you don't know what you don't know! What should I know?! 😁

Hemoglobin levels

I’ve been struggling for years to get my hemoglobin into the optimal range for a male. It constantly sits around 8.3–8.7 mmol/L while the reference range is 8.5–11, but ideally I want to be much closer to 11.

I’m 24, physically fit, train regularly, and have had a very clean nutrient-dense diet for the last 3–4 years (grass-fed meats, eggs, liver, kefir, etc.). Yet I still feel like my body is somewhat oxygen deprived. I’ve had shortness of breath upon exertion for as long as I can remember, even as a kid. My cardiovascular endurance has never matched how fit I look physically.

I honestly don’t think this is diet related anymore because I consistently get virtually every nutrient through food and have been very strict with my nutrition for years. I’ve also spent a long time working on my mineral status (iron, copper, selenium, etc.) and many levels now look much more optimal than before, yet my hemoglobin still refuses to go up to an optimal level.

One interesting thing is that some time ago I was doing B12 injections and during that period I actually felt noticeably better and even saw my hemoglobin improve somewhat. Since B12 is heavily involved in RBC production, it made me wonder whether this points more toward some sort of absorption/utilization issue rather than intake itself.

At this point I’m trying to understand whether this sounds more like:

\* iron utilization issue?
\* chronic low-grade inflammation?
\* hidden infection?
\* gut malabsorption?
\* mitochondrial/metabolic issue?
\* or something else entirely?

Mainly looking for people who deeply understand RBC physiology / oxygen transport rather than general nutrition advice.

Copper toxic?

I’m trying to figure out whether what I’m experiencing is normal or if I overdid it with beef liver capsules.

I started taking beef liver supplements consistently and after a while I started feeling fatigue, low mood/depression, brain fog, nausea at times, and just generally “off.”

At first I thought maybe it was some kind of “detox” reaction because I’ve seen people talk about copper detox/copper dumping online, but now I’m wondering if it could actually be from too much vitamin A, copper, iron, or something else.

For people who’ve taken beef liver supplements, did you ever get symptoms like this, how much were you taking, did stopping or lowering the dose help, and do you think it was more related to vitamin A, copper, zinc imbalance, or something else?

Not looking for medical advice, just wanting to hear other people’s experiences because liver supplements are usually talked about like they can do no wrong
