I want to cut my own hair, but very confused

Every time I go to a barber or stylist, they get it wrong. Maybe the haircut looks good in the end, but it isn’t what I wanted. It happened again today after growing my hair out yet again to try yet again.

I have short hair, and I like it in a mullet or kinda like a mix between a mullet and a wolf cut. Spiky, fluffy, nicely layered. I drew pictures for stylists to follow, I have example pictures that show how I want each section. It never turns out right and I’ve basically gone to every barber within 40-50 minutes of me now. Came back home today, family says it doesn’t look anything like any of the pictures I shown. It’s good, but not what I wanted, nor what was used as a reference.

I tried to cut my hair with a mirror, but I was so confused. I couldn’t figure it out, couldn’t figure out how to use the scissors with a comb for fades, I kept hitting my arms on the mirror, couldn’t figure out how to use the mirror to layer my hair and segment it, kept going the wrong way, nothing was working right.

I tried to search up about how to do it, watched some tuts, but even then it was still very confusing. I think it’s because even with an idea on where to start, I still haven’t gotten it down fully.

How have you guys combated this? Are there specific resources online that help with certain styles? Do I just have to soldier through until it clicks through practice?

If you see a BUNCH of the same thing from me on here, I’m so sorry. Idk what happened, I clicked post, it said error, I reloaded the page, and it’s all my post, over and over. I tried to delete them all. Lmao.

Something about bangs feels off

Just cut these and something about them doesn’t feel right. Any opinions?

big chop

i think my long hair was really nice and suited my face but lately feeling annoyed and got bored of it.
and also moving to new country and taking care of hair(even just brushing and washing ) starts feeling like a chore.
idk what got me but i just chopped it all two days ago. it felt sad for a moment but i feel lighter to not feel attached to it.
the new cut is not the prettiest i know
but never felt pretty anyway.
i m just trying not to feel anxious or any sort of hair centered reaction to myself everytime i look myself in the mirror

just sharing it with somebody who might relate to my feelings
although might delete later cause it feels weird to post my face on social media lol

Is it bad?

At 2 AM last night I decided to cut my own bangs and let’s just say it was an experience.
It is much shorter than what I wanted, also I did cut too much from the sides and now I look like this😅

Any tips on how to make this better?
What do you think of it? Is it good or need fixing?
Maybe more face framing?

First at-home haircut

Used the Brad Mondo butterfly haircut video. I'm very happy with how it turned out, considering it was my first time cutting it myself! Wanted to go shorter, but I wasn't brave enough (yet). If you see anything that I can do better next time let me know please, I was hoping to cut it more at home since it's just gotten too expensive for me at the salon. Also dyed it at home, but I've been doing that for years.

Just because you lost some hair, doesn't mean you have to lose your confidence. Style and slay.

Clipper recommendations

I am looking for clippers that cut very short (like the pic) and will allow me to fade into my beard. The picture is my ideal length, with the Philips one blade, but it takes forever because it misses hair and the blades are expensive and burnout fast.

Husband cut this short French bob for me on Friday

First time wearing this style! He used a feather Plier razor (I found a deal on an open-box one online! 🤩)

We used a hair cut video guide we found online. I was a French major, and I watched Amélie in high school French, so I have always adored Audrey Tatou’s look in that movie. This is clearly different than that for me, as it also makes me think of Daria’s friend Jane in the show Daria. I feel lovely!

Seeking hair cut advice for a noob with curly hair

Ive had long hair, short hair, everything in between. Im looking for something new! I live in the desert so I have been unable to find a stylist that is able to work with my hair. I believe I want a wolf cut but honestly Im open to ideas, my boyfriend cuts HIS own hair and is willing to lend a hand to the back of my head. Please help, how do I cut my own hair? Or is it a lost cause? Ps my curl pattern is usually tighter directly after wash day, this photo is what it looks like “lived in” for a few days.

Looking for clippers and trimmers.

I have a used set of Conair hc100rc clippers and they started making a loud noise last year. My niece is a beautician and she says it's time to get something new. I have thinning hair and I like a tapered look if that helps.

I'm looking for clippers and trimmers that will last a long time. Do they make cordless clippers and trimmers with easy to replace batteries? If not I would prefer corded. I'm not sure how much I want or need to spend. I don't need ultra expensive equipment and I want to avoid low priced junk. Do you have any suggestions at various price points such as ~$50, $75-$100, $100+?

Edit: Being able to find replacement parts for the clippers and trimmers is also important.

How do I make my hair look less triangular? Do I need to go shorter in the back? Is that the issue I'm having? And to be honest with you, I don't even know if my hair is even at all. It's curly so I feel like I can kind of get away with eyeballing how much I'm taking off but maybe I'm delusional. Is it even looking? I've been cutting my own hair since 2020 and I have had a few BAD haircuts let me tell you. I feel like I'm getting better? Do I look like Owen Wilson?
