semi-daily armor design discussion: ironclad armor

this is quite a unique armor/enemy. I like the helmet it reminds me of the steelmask of creighton. Also the back of the armor is kinda cool. Im unsure why they also designed a shield for this, it doesnt really fit to this kind of enemy. The Big 2handed weapon instead fits very well.

semi-daily armor design discussion: Sir Alonne Armor

Im glad we have this set since its a great looking samurai armor. I like this helmet a lot, looks like kendo mask which fits here well. Not a big fan of this big plume though.

The soundtrack and the arena was cinema though where you fight him

Oh. Oh my god. Oh my god how many illusory walls have I missed?? Oh my god.

. . . I have about a hundred hours in this game and I think I just found out how illusory walls actually work.

I've mostly been playing this game blind and by sheer coincidence I had a wiki page open on Belfry Sol just to check something and I noticed a note about a hidden wall with the Black Knight Greatsword. I tried going to the spot and smacking every inch of the wall and couldn't find it. I'm not even using strength weapons, so I didn't need the sword, but I pulled up a video just out pure confusion and found out . . . hidden walls do not open when you hit them in this game . . .

The thing is that whenever you use a lockstone to reveal a hidden wall you can attack it open. It never occurred to me it was a separate kind of hidden wall, so in my head it never occurred to me I was missing anything. And yeah there's messages all over the place saying "hidden path" where nothing happened when I hit it, but trolling messages pretending to reveal hidden walls is just standard in other dark souls games so it never even registered as weird.

. . . I need to, uh, go back and check some places.

Games most similar to DS2 but not DS3?

I beat SotFS the other day and have been feeling a bit empty since.

I thought DS1 was my favorite game, but then I finally gave 2 a fair shot, and holy shit. Everything I love about 1, turned up to 11.

In DS2, it feels like I’m going on a grand adventure that I wish could last forever. Same with DS1. Despite the horrors, it draws me in and makes me feel welcome. I can gladly die over and over and simply enjoy myself.

But in DS3, I can hardly call it a fantasy. Some gameplay mechanics are fun but I can’t say I want to spend time in that world, I feel miserable just playing it. I would rather lose forever in DS1 or 2 than win in DS3.

In the “hub world” of 1 and 2, Firelink and Majula, I feel warmth and comfort. In DS3’s firelink, I feel cold and empty.

All of these things are intended by DS3, or so I hear. The game happens at the end of the story, when the world’s flame is finally burning out. But it’s not for me, personally.

So that all being said, what games should I try that’s similar to 2 (and 1)?

Hey darklurker, you dont have to tick every ragebait checkbox

Lost ~15 effigy in the process of 3 dungeons and fought him 4-5 times. A duo gank AoE spam and requirement of killing all enemies in the dungeon to have fog hole open are surely something.

My 600 AR Greatsword only take me to his 2nd phase, then the fight becomes a running marathon for 5min.

Absolute runner up to Bed of Chaos. Yeah I gonna finish 3 DLC before meeting him again.

semi-daily armor design discussion: Mad Warrior Armor

lets continue the series with the mad warrior armor. Personally im not a big fan of the helmet its a bit too much over the top and predator inspired, but i like the design of the chestpiece. But at least it fits lorewise that they were called upon powers from beyond drangleic and that they are rare

Did you know that the Desert Sorceresses are actually captives/captured?

As the title says, did you know that there have been a few times that the Desert Sorceresses have been implied to be captured?

https://preview.redd.it/4dpfy1x6q8bh1.png?width=602&format=png&auto=webp&s=4869b495d215b690630c764736cec609fef3f4ff

Based off of internal names inside the game files, the Desert Sorceresses have an internal name of "Captured Magician" or " 捕らわれた魔導士(生者)", which when translated roughly means "Captured Sorcerer (Living/Alive)".

While the "(Living/Alive)" at the end doesn't sound much knowing the Desert Sorceresses pretty much look very human, it also implies that there was supposed to be an undead/hollowed version of them; especially when the very few times it appears it's tagged for enemies who have hollowed versions (i.e Royal Soldiers with Hollow Soldiers, Drangleic Infantry with Hollowed Infantry).

Example : Hollow Soldier & Royal Soldiers (in the giant memories)

Aside from the internal names, the descriptions from the Collector's Edition guide (page 132) & Dark Souls Trilogy Compendium (page 130) releases have referred to the Desert Sorceresses as 'captive Sorceresses'.

Collector's Edition Guide (page 132)

Dark Souls Trilogy Compendium (page 130)

Reading their description on the Collector's Edition Guide, the sorceresses may have been captured by Mytha as a scheme to lure more victims into her web, hence their presence in the Harvest Valley and Earthen Peak.

Collector's Edition Guide description for the Desert Sorceress.

Despite them being praised and prostrated to by the many other rotting hollows, it seems like they're not much different compared to the others in the valley below; nothing but captives of Mytha.

Best use of Skeptic’s / Simpleton’s Spice?

Which spells benefit the most from the incense items?

The obvious choice is spells whose effects don’t scale whatsoever from your INT / FTH.

But what’s some options that do scale? On my bandit with 1 INT and 8 FAI, is there anything useful / fun?

As for ones that don’t scale, I’ll throw out some examples, “Caressing Prayer,” “Perseverance,” “Homeward,” “Guidance,” “Chameleon,” or “Cast Light” would all work (despite most of them being pretty weak).
