Dirt Bike Gear

I recently bought a vintage IT175 and am wanting to take it on some local trails. I haven't a had an off-road only bike in over 10 years. What gear are people wearing on the trails these days? I've been looking at gear online, just looking for a real world take on what people are wearing. Don't really care if I look like a pro, just looking for what's logical but also comfortable.

Got a free Yamaha CT1 with a “cracked head”

generous neighbor gave me this bike while I was ironically walking my other bike home after it died on me. he said he thought it had a cracked head and was leaking compression. my gauge says the opposite. is it even safe to run a 2 stroke with compression that high without it dieseling?

Changing fork springs yourself?

2025 KTM 350 EXCF - WP XACT closed cartridge forks.

I bought the tools I think are needed and new springs from race tech to respring my forks and rear suspension.

The bike has maybe 4 hours on it, so I don't think I need to change the oil which is pretty intimidating process tbh. I just want to swap the springs themselves and that's it.

My question is, can I just keep the forks upright the whole time, pop off the fork cap and then pull out the inner cartridge and swap the springs/adjust preload spacers and put it back together? I do not need to remove the bolt on the opposite end of the fork (the bottom) to access the springs?

Chat gpt says the springs are at the top of the fork not the bottom, but I think that is incorrect and it's instead like shown in the picture above from this video.

Do these piston ring gaps look okay?

I just bought a brand new piston and my measurement tool is lost. However these look fine to me. I haven’t filed them down or anything. These are straight from wiseco.

Deal or no deal?

Looking for a bigger bike for my son. This one is local. We went and looked at it. Started right up. Sounded good. Doesn't come with a stand. Back sprocket is shot but seller said he has one ordered and will replace it. Bottom dollar is $1800. Is this a good deal or should we keep looking? This is in central Oklahoma.

would this be the reason my bike wont start

thats the bolt to my manifold to where i put on the carb, it screws in perfectly but theres a little gap on the side even when its fully tightened, i havent rode in 6 weeks, tried multiple spark plugs, tried 2 different wiring harnesses. and every time i kick it over it sounds like its about to start but just gives a tiny pop and shuts off

Anyone running radiator fans on a CRF250R for hard enduro/trails?

Hey guys,

I’ve got a 2007 Honda CRF250R (kickstart only, no electric start) and lately I’ve been doing more hard enduro style riding — nothing professional, just slow technical rocky trails, tight sections, climbs, etc.

The bike gets hot really fast in this kind of riding, which I know is kinda expected because the bike was made more for MX than slow enduro stuff.

I’m thinking about installing:

  • oversized/high-capacity radiators
  • a universal radiator fan kit
  • a completely separate electrical setup just for the fan (small battery + on/off switch)

The idea is to avoid touching the bike’s original electrical system as much as possible.

Has anyone here done something similar on a CRF250R or another MX bike?
Did a single fan make a noticeable difference?
Any issues with battery life, mounting, reliability, mud/water, etc.?

I know it’s kind of a workaround and the bike isn’t ideal for this type of riding, but for now I’d rather improve it than change bikes.

Any advice or photos of your setups would be appreciated.

Safe to lower by 50mm? - 2022 KTM 250 XCW TPI

I took my bike to a local shop and asked about lowering. He said my bike had already been lowered by about 30mm. I have short legs, and with something 1" tall under my foot, I had a lot better balance and confidence. The question is, am I severely hurting performance or safety by going an additional 20mm (50mm/2" total)?

I don't go too crazy, but I'm pushing myself to ride more technical terrain. I would sacrifice some ground clearance for the sake of not dropping my bike because I can't touch the ground

Klx300 vs klx300r engine.

I know neither are Rocket ships.

But is the 300r more powerful? I read and watch reviews about the dual sport version removing the secondary throttle plate, removing the airbox snorkel, etc.

Do the same mods apply to the 300r? It looks like the part numbers are the same online.
