Researching Durango

Hey all,

Car shopping around and a Durango at my local CDJR really caught my eye. It’s a GT Plus with the Pentastar V6. Ive always bought GMs but haven’t been thrilled with what I’m seeing from a lot of their models.

I’ve done some research around this forum and online- a lot of people seem to speak pretty highly of the Durango. While I definitely do not expect Toyota reliability, I am curious if anyone has any insight on what issues they’ve had- or what positive experiences they’ve had with the Durango. May test drive one soon.

Appreciate any insight!

GT Plus Hemi vs GT Plus TnG

Went to my local dealer today and drove both the GT plus Hemi and the GT Plus TnG. I had no plans to drive the TnG but it was there so figured why not. I was pretty underwhelmed at the GT Plus Hemi if I'm being honest. From all the videos I've seen with the start up and the reviews, I think I was expecting a lot more muscle. Once I moved on to driving the TnG with the Performance Enhanced exhaust not only did it sound much better but driving it was a lot more fun and enjoyable than the GT Plus. Maybe I had high expectations but now I can't go back from the TnG. Anyone else experience this? Also to my understanding, you can't get the Performance Exhaust without the TnG package.

Any high milage 392 Durango’s ?

Considering buying a new 26 RT 392 over the gt plus 5.7 considering the prices are not to far off but curious if it’s worth it for a long term family vehicle I’m aware of the extra maintence of the brakes and suspension and premium fuel for the 392 just curious of how much milage some people have on their older SRT’s and the maintence/ problems along the way.

Also curious to see what everyone thoughts are if either the dealers are going to mark up the new 392’s or drop the price of the GT hemi’s. You can build a base 392 cheaper than a hemi plus TNG which are almost the same thing.

What’s with no fog lights on the 25 & 26s?

This is our 3rd Durango. First two had fog lights. Very helpful and safer. We live in the mountains.

Who decides, “this year, no fog lights!”

What’s their thinking?

Maybe, it’s to justify not changing the look for last 17 years????

I’ve looked at kits to install the fog lights, but feels flimsy.

Anyone have examples of what they’ve done? Appreciate!

Headlight fog

Anyone know if this is fixable without replacing. Quoted 2200 with labor to replace. The blinker and running light works when it dries out but doesn’t how it is pictured. Main headlight works completely.

Is a V6 hood straight swappable on the 6.4?

It's an odd idea I know, but I wondered if that's possible to use the lower profile V6 hood without any scoops or vents, without clearance problems or heat-buildup issues. I kind of like the idea of the sleeper, a debadged r/T 6.4 that is only given away by the exhaust growl.

Curious

Greetings everyone. I’m curious to know why people consistently upgrade their Durango when the Durango itself hasn’t changed much over the years. I understand things like brand new, 0 miles, different engine, color even, but would be some other reasons to go from 1 car to another that looks exactly the same? Just curious

Has anyone ever has a bad transfer case electronic control module go bad and take out your transfer case?

Cause we just did. '21 TNG with 42k on it. Hopefully extended warranty will cover most of it. Anyone else have experience with this?

2024 dodge Durango v6 awd issue

Figured I would bring this issue to the forum for an answer. I have a 2024 dodge Durango that I got in dec of 2024 and I have 40k miles on it.

I do my own oil changes and just recently did the spark plug change out. But soon after maybe like a month later it’s sounding like there is a lifter issue.

How common are engine issues for the awd model-?

Thanks yall.

Weak Air Conditioning

Brand new 2026 Durango GT with what seems to be a defective ac system. I haven't put a temp gauge to check the output but it's not as cold as others cars I own and not keeping up with this heat.

Is this normal for the Durango?

Please advise me on my break issue….

I own a 2020 Durango SXT(I think)that I have been trying to get someone to change the break pads changed since March. The first guy actually offered. He knows I hate asking for help, so I offered to pay him, but with only 76K miles I just thought it needed an oil/filter change. I’ve now purchased the set of both front and rear pads. Not to mention the oil, filter and brand new oil basin. I’m out $200 for labor I prepaid him that I’ll never get back, but now my rear passenger brake is grinding. I paid a guy $60 and he claimed he removed the tire and realized he needed a tool, so couldn’t complete the job!!! Seriously??!?! WHAT TOOL? He said it was something used to remove the brake caliper. Based on from my understanding understand I could rent it and get my money back when I return it, or buy one and just keep it. Is anyone familiar with what I’m speaking about? I’m at my wits end with this crap. I never asked either of these men for help. They offered and I’m out a total of $260 PLUS parts!!! I want to go buy the part, so I will have it for the future. Thanks in advance for any decent help, or suggestions. I’m about to start watching YouTube videos, but I’m not going to attempt replacing the pads myself. Thanks to anyone offering advice. I know, I know - I shouldn’t pay until the jobs over. I won’t ever make a mistake like that again.
