I just got a PS5 Pro after years of being away from gaming, last having a PS4 years and years ago. I cannot believe how much cheaper physical games are compared to digital. Is this a regional thing?

I got the Pro assuming I'll jump on the store and purchase a few games. But when I checked the price of the physical games from Amazon, Trendyol etc. I just couldn't pull the trigger seeing how I'd be getting absolutely fleeced paying 100% - 150% extra for the digital versions. Looks like I'll be getting the disc drive...

Do any of you guys actually buy digital?

My Legion 7 Pro 5080 Died .. Learn from me

So funny thing, I was complaining earlier in another post that I may have sensitivity to OLED / PWM, and now the laptop is dead and already sent to the service center.

Here is my full story so you learn something from me.

I was on a hunt for a new gaming laptop and after lots of research found out that the Legion is supposedly a reliable, great brand with excellent performance.

I searched everywhere for good prices, but unfortunately local prices where I am, UAE, are around 1,000 USD more than the US variants. So I started checking the used market for something with warranty and found what looked like a great deal at the time.

It was a Lenovo Legion Pro 7, RTX 5080, 64GB RAM and 2TB SSD, with around 15 months local warranty remaining. I did all the testing I could think of. Lenovo app diagnostics, system testing, GPU tests, everything. All returned normal. The GPU tests ran without issues. The laptop looked clean, no scratches, and was in pristine condition.

I bought it for approximately 3,123 USD. It was used for only 8 months. A new model with the same specs here in the UAE costs around 4,200 USD

Fast forward. On the second time opening the laptop, I updated the Lenovo Vantage app, then closed the laptop. The next day I opened it, did some light browsing, and within the first 2 minutes I heard a clicking sound. Then the fans went ballistic. I mean extremely, extremely loud. I checked the temperature and it was normal. The laptop was not hot at all. Then it shut down on its own.

At first, I thought maybe Windows being Windows.

I opened it again, and within 1 minute or less after booting, the same thing happened. Fans went crazy, then shutdown.

I started searching with the help of GPT-5.5 and Claude Opus, and both pointed me toward checking the BIOS.

So I did, and that is where I saw the GPU reading as **Invalid**.

Then I made a stupid mistake. I changed the graphics mode to **Discrete GPU**, thinking maybe it would force the GPU to work or detect properly. Big mistake. After that, the screen went completely black. No Lenovo logo, no BIOS, nothing. Just pure black screen.

I tried everything I could safely try:

* Power drain reset

* Holding the power button for 60 seconds

* Blind BIOS reset

* External monitor

* Trying to get back into BIOS

* Charger only / battery only style checks

Nothing worked.

The laptop is now with the service center. Warranty told me they will give me an update on Tuesday on whether they will accept the warranty claim. They also told me if the laptop was opened before, they may not accept it. And this is exactly where buying used becomes scary, because even if the laptop looks perfect, even if Lenovo diagnostics pass, even if warranty shows active, you still don’t fully know what happened to it before you owned it.

The tests may all pass. But you still don’t know if it was opened, repasted, repaired, dropped, overheated, liquid metal touched, or anything else.

And now I am sitting here with a very expensive laptop that lasted me basically 48 hours.

The worst part is that I did everything “right” before buying it. I checked the condition. I checked warranty.

I ran diagnostics. I tested the GPU. I checked the specs. I compared prices. I thought I was being smart saving around 1,000 USD compared to buying new locally.

But honestly, after this experience, I don’t think the savings were worth the stress.

Moral of the story: **don’t buy used gaming laptops unless you are fully ready to accept the risk.** Especially high-end machines.

A used laptop can pass all tests today and die tomorrow.

Now I’m waiting for Tuesday to see whether the authorized repair center from Lenovo accepts the warranty or not.

If they reject it because it was opened before, then this becomes one of the most expensive lessons I’ve learned.

I’ll update once the service center gives me the final answer.

I am done with Playstation.

One of my happiest memories as a kid is waking up early one weekend morning and going into my aunt's living room to discover I could play this grey playstation box on my own without any supervision.

I played Spyro The Dragon that morning on that grey Playstation 1. I still remember how green the grass looked on that big ginormous CRT television. I also remember switching the discs and playing Crash Bandicoot Warped. I remember the jet ski level. The blue water was more blue than the sky outside in Jumeirah.

I remember the 899 AED ads in Khaleej Times for Playstation 2. I remember the 7th or 8th floor in the Bur Dubai Jumbo where kids used to go to play Tekken 5 and Gran Turismo on the Playstation consoles on display there.

I remember getting a PSP from Sheba electronics and my first UMD was Tony Hawks Underground 2 Remix.

I remember the fat piano black 80 GB PS3 I got for getting good grades in the 8th grade and how I played Metal Gear Solid 4 over a 100 times on that console.

I remember buying a PS4 Pro with my first job salary raise. The first game I bought was Crash Bandicoot N.Sane Trilogy.

And I remember how excited I was a few years ago when I grabed a PS5 disc edition at launch for 2099 from Amazon.

I have always been a Playstation boy. I grew up into a Playstation man. But given how Sony has recently changed, I don't think I want to give this company any of my money again.

I don't agree with paying for online. It doesn't make any sense to me. I don't feel any difference in multiplayer quality from when PSN was free on PS3 to now when it is a paid subscription.

The prices of games on PSN, even though I'm in a safe position to be able to afford them, honestly make me feel stupid. I don't want to feel like I'm stupid every time I pay for a game.

Even on discount, these games cost way more than they should. Way more than they do on in disc form from Amazon or even Steam.

And now, there's dynamic pricing. When I heard about that my stomach turned. I don't think it is fair to charge different people different rates for games. It feels instinctually shady and wrong.

And now, their decision to discontinue discs. It's the last straw for me.

Every game that has mattered to me I have bought it on disc. Because seeing them, holding them, feels different. Having that physical copy feels like I used the money that I work super hard for, for something real.

I cannot, I really cannot, without feeling like I'm getting taken advantage of for loyalty, continue supporting this company.

The only thing I'm going to give playstation money for between now and January 2028 is a physical copy of Resident Evil Veronica.

I'm starting a mini PC fund from this month. I'd rather save a small piece of my salary every month and buy / build a great PC in Jan 2028 than continue supporting Playstation.

On the PC, I can own my games via Good old Games. Steam sales are incredible value for money. And whatever launches on PC has some degree of preservation potential due to emulation.

With Playstation, I can't say the same.

I am done with Playstation. And sadly so. I wish I could have another story of how I bought myself a PS6. But that's not going to happen.

LED Strips Customization

Hey everyone, I'm looking to customize my room with LED strips, I'm looking for something that can be controlled wirelessly and of high quality.

I'll be putting them behind the gaming table and the TV as a start, but let me know if you guys have any other suggestions.

Also, let me know if you know a company/person that helps in customization and installation of the strips.

Thanks!!

Help verify PS5

Finally received PS5 slim disc today sold by Amazon.ae

The package was sealed by Jumbo and nothing seemed odd.

However I thought the body would be glossy because the one I received seems to be made up of grainy plastic texture (both white and blank panels). Controller is matte though.

Moreover the color isn’t exactly white but more greyish white.

Is this normal or should I get it checked by Jumbo or Amazon?

Want to get a laptop for less than 4000 AED

I'm a HS Student who is going to go to University soon and I need a new laptop to replace my current thinkpad. I want a gaming/semi-gaming laptop that can run most games decently well on high settings.

I'm looking for the following things:
- minimum 6-7hr battery life with iGPU and 60hz refresh rate

- shouldn't be very fragile/bad build quality, and should be upgradeable

- a decent GPU

Any suggestions or recommendations?

Best place to buy a gaming laptop in Dubai?

Hi everyone,

I’m planning to buy a gaming laptop in Dubai and wanted to know where I can get the best deals.

I’m looking for something that works well for everyday use, multitasking, and gaming. I don’t need an extreme high-end setup, but I want something reliable, long-lasting, and worth the price.

I wanted to ask:

  • Where can I get the best deals on gaming laptops in Dubai?
  • Is it better to buy online or in-store?
  • Are there any discounts, seasonal offers, or student deals available?
  • Which brands/models would you recommend around the price range of a MacBook Air?
  • Are there any trusted stores that accept old laptops for exchange or resale?

Any suggestions or personal experiences would really help. Thank you!

Where to get PS5 Cleaned?

Hi All,

I’m looking for places to get my PS5 cleaned - standard dust removal - nothing too out of the ordinary.

Was thinking to do it myself at home with vacuum and compressed air - but not sure if I should open it up myself.

Any leads / inputs are welcome.

Thank you!
