Durango "Messiah'

Hi guys, really hate to be making this post. Anybody who's walked around Durango the past couple years has probably seen chalk talking about the Messiah returning to durango, or even posts in this subreddit. The woman behind this is extremely mentally ill, and I am her daughter. I've had a restrictive order on her for a few years now but she remains posting my full legal name, location, and information to social media. She's currently posting under Dry-Basil224 on this app, speaking horribly about my father and grandparents. I would really appreciate if the Durango community could help me out by reporting her account because she's not doing herself any favors by posting. It's really shitty seeing this stuff all the time.

Ps. Before you go to her account just know 1. I wasn't kidnapped 2. I'm fine and healthy 3. Tupac is not my cousin

Almost got smoked by the spotter train

There's a Sunday group bike ride that goes out to Baker's Bridge and up old Shalona hill. When we we're descending Shalona today, the spotter train blew through the train track crossing without hitting the horn (or may have hit the horn last second, it all happened in a flash). If the guy in front of me had been a second slower or I a second faster then we'd be dead right now.

Gonna shoot DSNGRR a constructive email but posting here as a reminder to be extra vigilant crossing tracks with no safety gates. Also, maybe we should install some safety gates.

Cheapest ride from Durango to Silverton?

My friend and I are trying to get a ride from Durango to Silverton, sometime around August 3rd, and am unsure how to do so without spending hundreds of dollars. I contacted a few car services but they were charging 200-300+. The train isn't exactly cheap either at $110 a ticket, and only running in the morning, all while being a 3 1/2 hr ride. We will be getting into Durango around 3pm. I haven't exactly seen a clear-cut answer for Uber either, is that an available option?

Not feeling very patriotic.

Dear Durango,

You've changed so much over the years, I hardly recognize you. Maybe it's just the passing of time, or the grass is always greener, but most days I'm just bored and frustrated with this town in a way I never used to be.

The housing prices are high for homes that aren't even that nice, and rent pffffff. The tourists are rude, most of the good restaurants are gone, the trails are packed and we live in a food desert with just a couple packed grocery store options. The traffic and parking are horrendous and don't get me started with downtown. T shirt shops, cheap junk, expensive/bad food. WHAT HAPPENED?!

Water, fire, beetle kill issues. I've dropped my water consumption yet my water bill has gone up. $170 hr for a mechanic.....?! And forget flying with the current prices. Long/multiple connections and who are these visitors?!?! I remember waiting at the gate and it smelling like patchouli and being packed with people sporting chacos and beat up Ospreys. Now I look around and it's blue hairs and bedazzled leather bags.

Winter sports? With current lift ticket and gas prices, nope. Can't afford the hot springs...

Education system here is not great, and don't get me started on the child care crisis. 1 year waiting list and 2k+/month if you can find one with availability. Jobs and upward mobility?? HA!

Did you know our planting zone has changed? Yep. Anyone remember when it used to rain every day between 3 and 5 during the summer? I remember snow on Thanksgiving, often. Once, not long ago we didn't need AC.

The only good thing I have to say about Durango these days are the locals. You guys are still so nice. I've traveled a ton and Coloradoans are just so nice.....we always have been. And the DMV. We have a fast DMV.

But damn Durango, the height of socializing has been diminished to the Farmers Market, Snowdown, and the occasional political rally.

I've been here so long and deeply miss what this town used to be. I suppose I have accepted it's never going back. Do I sell and leave, or is it just like this everywhere? Maybe I am just describing the entire state of the US rn. So tired of paying so much to live somewhere that now seems to offer so little. Someone offer me some positive perspective because I am over it.

Micro Wedding Venues

Hi! I don’t plan to get married until September 2028, but I was thinking of having a micro wedding of about 35 people. I really don’t want any fancy traditional wedding venues and was thinking of going through the national forest route and getting the permit. I am trying to go for a nature Twilight vibes wedding. What spots do y’all recommend for either parks or cute places I can use the permit for a wedding? Also is there anyone willing to rent out their backyard? Thanks!!

4th of July gratitude for our wildland firefighters

On the 250th anniversary of our country’s founding I offer my gratitude, appreciation, and really my flat-out awe of the wildland firefighting community that is currently working around the clock to protect our forests, communities and lives.

There is no better exemplification of the virtues that have always made me proud to be an American: strength, grit (SO MUCH GRIT), tenacity, hope, altruism, bravery in the face of the utterly terrifying, and last but most important - the inclination to serve the communities that make up our melting pot.

The fireworks and parties mean precisely zero to me today, what I’m grateful for is the hope that these amazing men and women give me for the future of our country. At a moment where integrity is in vanishingly short supply, these folks are demonstrating that it’s not dead.

As you celebrate with your friends and family today please keep the noblest of American nobility in your hearts, thoughts and prayers.

They are very literally risking their lives to save us. Look no further to see the very best that our country has raised, take inspiration from their commitment to public service, and may we all consider on this momentous 250th anniversary of the birth of a great nation what it is that WE are willing to sacrifice to defend it.

❤️

Wild experience with the owner or brim and boots.

Entered the store and the worker didn't even acknowledge our existence. And the way out the owner was blocking the walking path because she stoped a ups delivery man. I kindly said excuse me and she started going off on me about how I should be nice to the ups guy because he has so many boxes. I asked her to move because she was blocking the path not him. She told me to "fuck off." My wife asked her to not swear in front of our kids and she told us "I don't give a shit "

I can't believe someone would be swearing in the middle of the road and be so vile in front of my 2 year old.

Old timers, do you remember rain?

Does anyone from here remember what rain looks and feels like? It may legitimately never rain here again. I think the last rain we had in Breen was in February or March, either way, feels like one of those things we’ll be telling our grandkids about, when water used to fall from the sky.

Speed management plan demonstration on river view drive.

Is anyone else frustrated with the Speed Management Plan demonstrations? From what I’ve read, Riverview wasn’t chosen because it’s proven to be the city’s worst speeding problem—it was selected as a demonstration corridor to test whether chicanes could work on collector streets. As someone who lives here, I’m not convinced our neighborhood is the right place to inconvenience residents just to test a concept that may eventually be used elsewhere. The project has a total budget of about $307,800, mostly funded through a federal grant, and while I know the demonstrations are intended to evaluate speed reduction, emergency response impacts, and whether these ideas could be used elsewhere in the city, I’m struggling to see whether the benefits justify the disruption. I’m genuinely curious—do people think this is a good use of resources, or are others as skeptical as I am?
