
Poe and Opium: Addiction, Hallucination, and the Gothic Mind

That story haunted me more than many of the well-known Poe classics. I don't know if this is a common reaction to the story, but I was--still am--overwhelmed with feeling sorry for the old man, though I'm not sure we're supposed to.
So far I’ve read: The Raven, Annabel Lee, Alone, A Dream Within a Dream.
I really What other Poe poems would you recommend I read next? Looking for both his most famous must-reads and some lesser-known gems.
I can see thinks Mulholland Drive, Lost Highway, Blue Velvet and Eraserhead as 20th century/early 21st century Poe. Can you? Or am I stretching it?
