Though Ireland became a separate dominion in 1922, it wasn’t until 1927 that the name of the state was changed by the Royal and Parliamentary Titles Act from ‘United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland’ to ‘United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland’. Elizabeth II (1926-2022) was born a year prior to the name change.
Soong Mei-ling, First Lady of the Republic of China from 1928-1931, 1943-1949, and 1950-1975, was wife of Chiang Kai-shek, and was named as part of the first joint-victory in the Person of the Year. She lived until 2003, spending the last few years of her life in New York City.
Got a hard to find country today for my birthday. It commemorates both the Battle of Yorktown and George Washington’s 250th birthday. It is 50% silver, and has a mintage of 3,610. A&B hasn’t release many coins, since they are in the East Caribbean States currency, and only make the occasional commemorative.
In his speech, the King spoke of shared heritage and alliance between the United States and the United Kingdom, and made note of the significance of the 250th anniversary of America’s founding, and of the 25th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks. This was the first address to Congress by the British monarch since Queen Elizabeth II’s address in 1991, in the aftermath of victory in the Gulf War, and the second time over all.
The King met with U.S. Chief of Protocol Monica Crowley and British Ambassador to the United States Sir Christian Turner upon landing at Joint Base Andrews in Maryland. They were by greeted a contingent of armed forces and children of British servicemen overseas. The national anthems of the two nations then played, before Charles and Camilla headed to the White House.
I’m not sure of the flair, but I think a coin, since it features an artists’ rendition, falls under the art flair. I picked this up today and thought fellow puma enthusiasts would enjoy it.
