Reading the final book
I am very disappointed in the story its looking boring
I am very disappointed in the story its looking boring
Currently trying to get into the Elric Saga and been rereading the first short novel, one thing that doesn't fit with me currently is how frantic the pacing is. It feels like it goes too many places and its always dropping new names and lore too frequently, like The God Who Did This and The Place That Looks Like That. I'm wondering if the series slows down a bit later, not to GRRM or Tolkien levels of description, but maybe something more Leiber or even Howard-ian and Lovecraft-ian when it comes to descriptions. Do you think I chose the wrong saga to start?
I'd have done this for more champions, but I don't know any flower associations for the rest of them.
I apologize for the bad quality of some of the older editions, they're exceptionally rare to be found online.
Prosveta and Narodna knjiga editions are in the same panel as the latter were reprints of those editions, and were the first books of Elric I found at a local library.
Hello all! Mod here.
I’ve decided to jump on here real quick to make a long overdue post about the reading order of the series since it seems to be a common question.
As longtime fans will tell you, that is a somewhat tricky question and doesn’t really have one singular answer.
Over the decades, Michael Moorcock wrote the stories out of chronological order and then arranged them in different editions. In a fan Q&A, Moorcock was even quoted as saying that there isn’t a particular order you have to read them in because he didn’t write them in chronological order and weren’t put in order anyway until relatively recently. But he does recommend starting with Elric of Melniboné and ending with Stormbringer, and what one does between the two is entirely up to preference.
That said, many will agree that the Elric saga is one of the few series that benefits from not being read in its publication order, as you risk confusion and missing the buildup to the finale’s climax.
With that in mind, I’ll leave you with two options: the first, Option 1, being the most beginner-friendly route, or Option 2, the order very commonly recommended by longtime fans.
And for the other more experienced Moorcock readers in the crowd, if you have your own views/advice/recommendations/commentary, please chime in!
Option 1:
Option 2:
Side note: you will find that there are later additions to the saga but these options provide the classic lineup.
Thanks and hope this helps!

I personally think Elric would be better suited to be 11th's companion, but I have such a soft spot for 12th. I just think either Bastable or Corum would be better for 12th. And yes, I absolutely must dress Elric in his first canon appearance when it's about Doctor Who.
Champions in question: Karl Glogauer, Oswald Bastable, Jerry Cornelius, Jherek Carnelian + Oswald and Jherek doodle.
I just love to draw them at the moment. I'll make some proper action/canon relevant art soon, I promise. Haven't done black line-art in a while either.
Other characters: Conan, Jirel
I’ve always loved Elric and the whole tragic, decadent atmosphere surrounding him, so I decided to make a custom proxy inspired by him using Culling the Weak as the base card.
This proxy is not just a tribute but also a personal protest, even if small as it may seem.
I’m from Brazil, and over the years I’ve become increasingly frustrated with the way Wizards of the Coast has treated both consumers and workers, while prices keep becoming more absurd and inaccessible in countries like mine. Between aggressive product saturation, pricing, and the overall direction of the company, I reached a point where I simply stopped wanting to financially support it the same way I used to.
So instead, I started making more and more proxies, not just printing them, but actually designing and building the artwork myself whenever possible.
Weirdly enough, it made me reconnect with the creative side of Magic far more than endlessly buying overpriced products ever did. And not only that but exloring other fantasy artworks such as Frazzeta, Michael Whelan Jean Pierre Targete.
So this is both a tribute to Elric, and a small act of rebellion in true Melnibonéan fashion.
All hail the White Wolf. All hail Arioch. Glory be to Chaos and its champions.
Post inspired by u/EcclesianSteel . Last year I finally finished a project for my partner that was in the making for some time. I gave her Elric-inspired Magic the Gathering Commander deck a complete Elric makeover and made for every single card in the deck an elric proxy/variant, including the lands of course.
It's meant to showcase the great work that is the Moorcock multiverse and especially Elric (Elric is like 90%) and also celebrate all the different styles in which Elric and his world is interpreted in. From the greats like Whelan's pantsless, iconic Elrics and Telo's comic illustrations to smaller artists on social media that show the world in their unique style like Bugbart and Clade Mirya.
Idk how much will be readable when I upload, but at least all cards are readable on the original photos ✌️
I made Elric in Baldurs Gate 3! He’s a Half Wood Elf Rogue!
other characters: Conan and Jirel
Since there was some interest about the deck of Elric cards I put together, I give you a few more. Since it's a whole 100 card deck with even some extra cards, I think it's impossible to showcase the entire thing. There are a few already shown cards on the first image, but it felt wrong to exclude them next to their artist's other work.
Does Elric display any of the traits usually encountered by people with albinism in real life ? Talking about nystagmus and photophobia. He doesn’t seem to have any light sensitivity, mind you I m still on the first book, he could have nystagmus.
Or maybe somehow albinism doesn’t affect Melnibonean the same way as humans ?
I also wonder why is his disease for being so physically weak ?
Be mindful that English is not my first language
I kinda like these urban vibes with the champions, so I did one more with Oswald.
