"Mystery Train" Sun Records

Elvis's version of "Mystery Train" is universally hailed by music historians as a definitive moment in the birth of rock and roll. It perfectly blended rhythm & blues with country (the essence of rockabilly). The propulsive, eerie rhythm driven by Scotty Moore's guitar and Bill Black's bass practically simulated a speeding train, creating a raw, energetic sound that inspired countless future rock musicians. Rolling Stone magazine ranked it among the Greatest Songs of All Time. It is frequently cited as one of the most influential rock recordings ever made.

Shop Elvis vs. Shop Graceland?

Anyone know the difference? Seems there are two official stores and I've never really understood why. There's more on Shop Graceland, but Shop Elvis has some different items.

Possible Elvis last concert ticket

Hello, I recently acquired a collection of random collectibles and this item was in the lot. The actual ticket was laminated unfortunately, looks like there was water damage prior to laminating. Are there any known fakes of these tickets? I live and acquired the collection in Indianapolis so it helps the story a bit. This ticket was not originally owned by the people I got it from, it was picked up at a collector’s show. Is there any way to authenticate it? I don’t know if any grading service would take it due to the lamination. Any thoughts and advice would be appreciated!

What is your Elvis song or songs for the summer?

For me the first song that comes to mind is Burning Love. Other options are most of the songs on the Blue Hawaii album, Fun in Acapulco album, and probably It Happened at the World's Fair album.

2005 Elvis: the Miniseries

I had watched it when I was just a beginner in my fandom, and anything with Elvis was a revelation. Even then I found this version mediocre, and now after watching it again, it was cringier.

Granted it is ' made for t. v.', and so comes with a certain budget/ aesthetic.

But there is literally no point to the story- which points to weakness of the script- my biggest beef with it. It just strings one event after another. There is no framing or an insight into the story- which is inexcusable as it had been almost thirty years since his death.

Very few scenes are stand outs. The emotional appeal just doesn't land. There is a flat tone throughout, that makes it difficult to engage or feel part of that fictional world at any point.

Editing is weird- the transitions just fall flat. The BGM is terrible. Cinematography and production design are OK for a project of this size.

I appreciated that Elvis is not shown as a saint, and his temper/ cheating was not hidden. Including characters like Hall Wallis, Steve Sholes was nice. Scenes at Sun are also better than later RCA ones.

Jonathan Rhys Myers was disappointing, he is an excellent actor- but I think he is miscast here. He does the darker bits well- but lacks the infectiousness, the innocence, the vitality, of Elvis ( the character, not performer). He is perennially wired tense, and after a while, it just seems monotonous. However, it still is somewhat interesting, especially the grey side of the character.

And the musical performances? Oh man, so so so bad. They shouldn't have included performances at all and kept it a personal story.

Although I think his portrait of Elvis was still better than several others that came before. But Kurt Russell truly captured Elvis as a character, even if that film also was quite surface level, and so was the character as written. But Russell embued Elvis with a three dimensional persona- especially his vulnerability. Although that script doesn't allow him to be grey in character- this is where JRM does well.

As far as performances, Randy Quaid as Colonel and Camryn Mannheim as Gladys were excellent. Rose McGowan as Ann Margret was terrible. But it is not her fault- it is the soft p* rn approach of the filmmakers whenever she is on screen.

Overall, I won't watch this one again.

How long did it take you to watch every Elvis film?

For me, it took me three years to do so as I had school and was trying to find time to watch them when I wasn't too busy or had a day off. I first started with a double feature with Blue Hawaii, followed by Girls! Girls! Girls! Back in 2024 during the summer and ended in July 2026 with The Trouble with Girls being the final film I watched. I didn't watch them in order by the way.

What’s the saddest version of ‘Can’t help falling in love’ you’ve ever heard of from Elvis Presley?

My grandfather had died June 24, 2026. Today is his wake, we’ve lived and grew together with him. I’ve always knew he was an avid Elvis Presley fan, and would always sing his songs in the karaoke. This post could help a lot for his tribute. Thank you!

What is the most technical Elvis song that he played himself

I am wondering what the most advanced song is that Elvis himself played on guitar or piano.

I feel like his playing is far out shadowed by his singing so I’ve decided to do a dive into his instrumental capabilities

Elvis Interacting With His Fans

I’ve grown up with Elvis and became pretty used to him kissing his fans because “that’s just what he did” and “it was a different time”. I started to think about this a bit recently though, I can’t recall a single other artist that does this? Can you imagine today’s superstars doing something like this? Would be crazy! Did other artist at the time kiss their fans too? Also did he only do this in the 70s or was this something that he’s done his whole career? I feel like I’ve seen it happen in the 50s too just can’t recall. Finally, did he ever get any pushback from this? I know Priscilla was obviously not a fan of it, but did the media ever give him pushback? Never really realized how bizarre this is given today’s current culture lol

Elvis’ last note, telling Charlie Hodge to introduce these songs for the concerts. Thoughts?

I think this is very fascinating. Now Elvis triumphantly said in private he wanted to make the Fall 1977 tour the best one yet. Whether he would have or it would have been pretty standard as usual, is something left for alternate universes.

But presumably alongside his usual setlist (probably would have even more recordings of See See Rider, I Got a Woman, Love Me, Hound Dog, Can’t Help Falling in Love, etc.), he wanted to add these songs.

What do you think the choices? I think For the Heart is a good one to introduce live, and I am really curious if he was going to do Hey Jude properly this time instead of just adding the coda on to Yesterday.

So what’s the tea on Sally Hoedel?

I remember when this book came out and a lot of fans were singing its praises for debunking some of the myths surrounding Elvis’ health and death.

But I saw a post on here that said she is a pretty terrible person and even bullied other fans. Now I was not aware of this because I don’t follow any of the other online communties on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc. All I know is the subreddit. So what’s been going on with her?

And another related question, does her behavior affect the research and information shown in this book or are they entirely separate and we can judge the book on its own merits?
