Vegas recommendations

Planning a trip to Vegas, staying at the Venetian. Any recommendations from locals for do's and don'ts? Places to visit or avoid? Was last there in 1998 so it's been a while.

Rose Garden Upgrades

As an expatriate Trailblazer fan living in California, I last attended a game at the Rose Garden (I refuse to call it the Moda Center) back in 2024.

As a fan experience, the venue seemed fine. I actually prefer it to the local and much newer, Golden One Center where the Sacramento Kings play.

What are the specific million dollar upgrades that the leage and new ownership pushing for? Has anything official been shared/published? Thanks

Reread of Peace Talks -Spoilers

My reread of the entire Dresden Files series leading up to Twelve Months continues. I've read over 8,000 pages if you include all novels, short stories and graphic novels through novel #16 Peace Talks.

It's this novel where Butcher finally starts annoying me as a reader. Perhaps part of It's an accumulation of plot and chatter decision prior to Peace Talks. I wasn't a fan of the injuries to Karrin Murphy and Michael Carpenter. After Micheal went down I thought Karrin would take over as Knight. Jim switched it up on me. I'm also troubled by the character arc of Molly, but I went with it. Perhaps these all impacted my reaction to Peace Talks.

There's some good stuff in Peace Talks. Harry's interactions with Maggie, learning Molly's full name (perhaps it was mentioned before, but I don't remember it) the concept of Earthwalking, even Jedi ButterKnight.

When the titan sent her mojo out late in the novel, I couldn't help but picture the "I believe in magic" sequence in the original 1984 Ghostbusters movie. Even the song tracks perfectly.

On the other hand...

It seems obvious that the manuscript stretched too long and so one book became two. As a result, Peace Talks became the first Dresden files novel tgat failed completely as a stand alone entity.

There's always been stuff that crosses novels, even a big cliffhanger like Ghost Story, but this is different. The only good news is that the wait for Battle Ground was short.

Cornerhounds are one of Butcher's stupider creature creations. I understand it has to be tough to come up with new stuff sixteen novels in but come on.

Speaking of dumb ideas...Conjouritiis? Really?

Harry being a starborn that happens once every 666 years? This struck me like the Dresden files version of the midichlorians in Stat Wars Episode I the Phantom Menace.

Harry has always been stupid stubborn. That's an accepted character trait. However it seemed much more annoying and nonsensical this time. He doesn't tell McCoy about Thomas' parentage earlier in the book for no other reason than for the added drama. He doesn't tell Carlos about Karrin for the same reason. Carlos is tracking him anyway, so he already knew where Harry had spent the night, right?.

Harry's magical projection from the Water Beetle to the shore to fight McCoy is a straight up rip off of Luke and Ben Solo in the Last Jedi. I loves me some Star Wars but...

Here endeth the rant. On to Battle Ground! Go ahead and let me know how wrong I am. That's what reddit is for after all 😎
