Tight Panel to Install Emporia Vue 3 Home Energy Monitor

Tight Panel to Install Emporia Vue 3 Home Energy Monitor

I bought Emporia Vue 3 Home Energy Monitor 16 circuits but couldn’t install due to tight spaces in the panel.

Anybody know an alternative to this? I really hope Emporia will make thinner/smaller sensors for tight spaces, but it’s just a hope.

Emporia Pro EV LV2 charger help

So I installed this device hardwired and all has been great. I already invested in gen 2 vue on 3 panels across my property years ago so just seemed like a no brainer decision.

So I setup solar excess sunrise to sunset and it has worked amazingly well. I also set smart saver schedule so if solar for whatever reason is not good the car will charge at night when I get special pricing which emporia found my SMUD rates. So far all is perfectly working.

Here is the problem I get hit by a train tomorrow or I’m traveling for work and my wife needs to charge in the middle of the day no solar no smart schedule she doesn’t care she wants it to charge right now, WHAT IS THE PAYH OF LEAST RESISTANCE. Now I have tried pushing the charge now button in app and that does work but then it somehow screws up solar excess from working anymore, at least that day. I’ve never waited long enough to see if it resets the following day and maybe it does. So I go in app and uncheck solar excess get out of app to save then go back in app and re enable then it will fix it.

Seems like I am doing something wrong can anyone help me to understand is there an easier way. What if wife doesn’t want to open an app can she plug in middle of day and force a charge through her car or pushing button on charge cord 5 times lol??

Just seemed to be missing the final piece to make this setup perfect for me the solar guy and wife the I need to charge now. As you can tell we are new to EV’s so we are getting the hang of it.

Thank you all in advance for schooling me up.

Respectfully

Question: how hot is the cable supposed to get?

I had an electrician professionally install my Level 2 charger, set for a maximum 48A draw. The circuit and wiring are rated for 60A. I’m using the NACS version of the charger with a NACS-to-J1772 adapter for my Cadillac Lyriq.

The charger is installed in my garage, and last night it was fairly warm in there: probably around 90°F.

After about two hours of charging at 48A, everything appeared to be working normally, but I noticed that the charging cable had become very warm. I’d actually describe it as hot to the touch and i guess hot enough to be uncomfortable to hold.

Is that considered normal for the Emporia Level 2 Pro charger when charging continuously at 48A, especially in a warm garage?

I really like the thinner, more flexible cable, and that was one of the reasons I chose this model. I first saw it reviewed on the YouTube channel State of Charge, where it received a good review.

Tom Moloughney, if you happen to see this, I know you’ve tested one of these and I’d be very interested in your thoughts.

Kind of annoyed at $125 PowerSmart fee.

First, it wasn't real clearly documented. I got a Pro and a Classic thinking I could use it for both.

Had I known I would have just gotten 2 pros and used the extra sensors for my breaker box, roughly same price.

My Emporia and breaker box

I have a '25 I5 Limited. We just purchased a new home and the breaker box only has one shot left. Is there a way to share a section? My Emporia has a plug end but I'm guessing that can be replaced to be hardwired into the box. I seem to recall a post about sharing breakers. I haven't fully researched this but wonder if anyone here has a solution. Thanks!

Cool home w/excess solar? Charge Car w/solar? Both?

I'm running emporia pro charger, and love using the charge with excess solar feature. My next highest use appliance is the heat pump, so I would like to soak up the sun and turn it into cold air. The Lennox VRF system I have uses a Lennox proprietary comms protocol (encrypted rs485 of some sort), but the controller (S40, 22V24) allegedly supports Matter.

Any suggestions on how to accomplish the AC control, either by:

a. hacking something together

OR

b. getting a fully supported feature in EmporiaEnergy

Does Emporia Smart Plug Have In-App Notifications When There Is a Power Outage Or Wifi Connection Lost Due to Power Outage?

As title stated. Is anybody using this plug?

Argh, any advice how to get the CT on my main line?

Options? 1) Hire electrician, 2) forget about one phase and capture with branch? 3) Send everything back, 4) Other?

kWh/hr is showing $1.51/hr during super OFF peak 😩

Hello. I own an emporia pro level 2 charger; for the past 8 weeks my car charges between 1am and 5am which is Dominion Energy’s super off peak time; in the past 2-3 days, the emporia app shows it charging at a rate of $1.51 instead of Dominion Energy residential electricity rates in Virginia of roughly 14.1¢ to 17.4¢ per kWh; why is this happening? I’d like to add that this drastic spike began when we switched from 1 EV to “multiple” in the app.

On Wednesday morning at around 6am, we noticed the “new” vehicle did not charge on schedule. In the app, the time zone was no longer listed, so I made the adjustment by deleting the schedule, restarting the emporia pro, then re-adding the schedule of charging between 1am and 5am. On Wednesday evening when it was connected to my vehicle, it started charging between 8pm and 9pm. The explanation I gathered online was that it was reading the time zone incorrectly by 5 hours (UTC time). Once more, I deleted the schedule, and re-added it.

Thursday night and Friday night, it started charging between the correct super OFF peak hours, but the kWh rate per hour was astronomical. Fast forward to present time, I recorded the live costs. Once more it was at $1.51 kWh/hr. The emporia utility plan in the app says “ residential 1”. However, it used to say “residential EV”.

What happened? How can we correct this? How can we prevent this in the future? I’ve included 1 video. I also sent this message to Emporia. Thanks!

I have a 3 phase panel (USA), is one of the 3 wires coming in from the grid supposed to be blue?

Please see attached picture. I'm trying to connect an emporia vue 3 to this 3 phase panel and not sure if it matters which of the two black main cables are supposed to be the blue one

Frustrated with Emporia Charger

Hi all,

This is mostly me just venting, but if anyone has any insight or advice it would be appreciated.

I've had my Emporia Classic for about a year and a half now. Several weeks ago I came home from work and it was throwing a ground fault error. I contacted the company who did some troubleshooting on their end, but ultimately couldn't get the error to clear. They asked if I could have an electrician come out and check the circuit. I've already checked it with a multimeter and everything appeared fine with the circuit itself, but they wanted an electrician to take a look. After several weeks of trying to find an electrician that would come out and do this and trying to schedule them around vacation and work schedules, they finally came out today and confirmed that the circuit is indeed fine and the issue lies with the charger. I sent this information to Emporia, as well as a request that they cover the cost of the electrician they requested ($275 for five minutes of work), and they are saying that they will not reimburse for this or installation of a new unit.

I know it would be foolish to not have the unit replaced, but it's frustrating that the unit failed after such a short time, and I'm going to incur more cost than what I'm already in for to have it installed. I'm also questioning their reliability going forward and wondering if I'm going to be in this position again in the near future. I'm going to continue chatting with their support staff but I'm wondering if I should cut my losses and pick up a different unit. Does anyone have any other chargers they recommend?

Thanks for letting me vent.

Troubleshooting my emporia classic

I just installed on 30amp breaker. Hardwired with 10awg.

I can't get it to pull more than 15amps before it throttles me down to 8amps.

I have the car (Volvo c40) set to pull a maximum of 24 amps. And the emporia classic set with a 30amp breaker.

I can modulate the slider to control the power draw in the emporia app but If I bring it over 15 amps it gets throttled.

Anyone know what could be causing it?

Emporia Level 2 Pro Hardwired tripping 60A QO breaker

Hey All,

So got this Charger installed, the wire run from the panel is 10' 6/3 MC with a surface mounted JB in the garage, The whip from the charger and MC are connected with Polaris connectors, they're torqued down good, problem is it tripped the 60 QO breaker after about an hour of charging, the charging wire was warm to the touch, not hot, as well as the main run from the panel, they face of the breaker did feel quite warm though, but I was kind of expecting that since it's a continuous 48 amp draw. it's a brand new breaker and it is not GFCI.

Any ideas?

On the Vue 3, do i need to put a clamp on the breaker going to a subpanel if i am already putting a separate emporia vue 3 on the breakers in the subpanel?

i have a main panel that i want to put a Vue 3 on. i also have a subpanel for my kitchen that i want to put another Vue 3 on. do i need to waste one of the sensors on my main panel on the breaker that goes to the kitchen subpanel? or can that be skipped since i am putting the separate vue 3 with sensors on all the kitchen breakers?

Question about the app

I just installed their level 2 charging station and installed the app. What is the point of the app? It seems like the whole point is to look at stats and doesn't really do much when it comes to ev charging. Am I missing something? Tia
