New lightning

Just became part of the EV gang. I couldn't pass up the new flash model for 54k. Loving it so far

Built a privacy-focused charger finder for my Lightnin

I built a charger finder for myself because I got tired of how many EV apps treat your location like a product.

Most of them will happily show you chargers without forcing an account, but they still pack in analytics SDKs, ad tech, and other junk that turns “find me a charger” into a data-mining exercise.

So I made a simpler one and ended up putting it on the App Store.

It’s called WattsNear. It’s for iPhone + CarPlay. No account, no analytics SDKs, and no backend I run. It pulls charger data straight from the DOE/NREL station database, so there isn’t any infrastructure on my side calling home.

I built it with my own Lightning use in mind, but I’d genuinely love feedback from other owners on whether it feels useful or if there’s something obvious missing.

If anyone wants to try it:

Happy to take blunt feedback.

Anybody else have to reset their window switch daily?

It seems that I am constantly battling the driver's side window. It never works on auto down or up. I have to close the window all the way and hold the switch up for a couple seconds and then it works as it should.

Between that and having to fill the washer fluid every year, this truck is just too much maintenance.

Front Motor Fault stranded me twice.

Twice in two months I’ve had it towed to the dealer. Twice, the issue resolved itself at the dealer.

WTF!?!? I can’t drive a car that will randomly strand me.

ABRP Premium vs Apple Maps

Just want to get an opinion. Got my Lightning last night and I’m so happy with it after wanting one for so long. Got a 2023 ER Lariat and I’m trying to set up a future road trip.

I want to know if people have found that Apple Maps has caught up to ABRP at this point or if it’s still the standard. I don’t have an issue using either, I’m just scared ABRP will be extremely lacking in the navigational department with real time updates on traffic.

Any thoughts are appreciated!

Ford F-150 lightning XLT (OH) $347.54 12K miles $0 down

Any recommended ways to negotiate the lease lower than this? With 0 down it’s $347.34

Tried and True Route Planning Method

I imagine some people in his forum has spent a lot of time perfecting road trip planning. What is the way? ABRP? Ford app? Google Maps?

EA v Tesla charge membership

I'm planning a long road trip. NC to OR, going on a northern route through ND and MT. I've done plenty of shorter road trips in my ER Lightning, but none this long. I've got a pretty good plan mapped out (based on ABRP and some places we want to stop, plus prioritizing hotels with L2 chargers).

That western ND and eastern MT section is pretty rural and far between stations (including gas). Looks like Tesla and EA have it pretty well mapped out and are generally in the same towns, across from one another.

Should I get a month of both the Tesla and EA memberships? I figure this has me covered if one is down (looking at you EA). I generally find Tesla more reliable, but the short cable issue can be a real pain depending on the parking set up. If it weren't for the cable issue, I'd probably only get a Tesla membership.

Advice on going with one company, two companies, or maybe none and just optimize chargers based on distance? I'm not leaning toward that third option because some rates are pretty high.

Bed covers

Has anyone seen a difference on range/efficiency using a bed cover? I’m wondering what real world impact you’ve seen. Also, I just bought a lariat and am considering retractable running boards, any real world impacts there?

Thanks for your feedback!

Truck stuff

Hauling the horse and not paying attention to the battery. Damn that was close. Last 3 pics was a box truck with the top peeled off being towed down the highway. What a fun day.

Work truck lightning in questionable area

Been eying a Lightning for a while which takes around 2 years correct ???
Struggling between a XLT, flash and lariat

Would love to sleep with my truck/tools secure.

So as a General Contractor that actually works on the job site I carry tools and the lightning frunk and back (enclosed with shell) will be perfect job site rig for the semi ~ serious days. I have bigger trucks too

Will the PAAK auto lock for me if I forget to lock in the driveway at home ? Any tech in the high trim levels that will help with theft ?

I have a 99 F250 that I had a self enabling lock (now) and auto locks after 5 minutes - after multiple break ins no one has dared come near it now. It’s my savior at this point.

Thanks

Taillight

Hey gang. I’m a little disappointed to say the least. I recently discover water inside my taillights and took it in to the Ford dealership. Dealership said it was caused by failure of the seals. When they submitted the warranty claim it was rejected by Ford because of an abrasion on the taillight. Ford said it was outside influence that caused the seals to fail even though there were no cracks on the taillight. What should I do? I’ve already contacted customer relations. Here’s a pic of the abrasion.

Goodyear Wrangler Stock Tires - Electric Drive Ready?

2025 Lariat

I have the stock Goodyear Wrangler Territory HT tires on. I need to replace one of them, but I dont know what "Electric Drive Ready" means (in the photo, it's at about 4:00). I cant find anything on Goodyear's website regarding it. I also dont know if these "Electric Drive Ready" tires are any different than the standard Wrangler Territory HT tires.

Can I just replace it with any stock Goodyear Wrangler Territory HT tire?

Edit: Thanks for all the responses! It appears that if you order that same tire, it already comes with that "Electric Drive Ready" designation. That size does not have two separate tires, one with and one without the marker. Odd that GY website makes no mention of it.

CPO Sold to me without spare tire or jack/tools

Hey folks, could use some advice here. I noticed after purchasing a CPO lightning that it was missing the spare tire as well as the jack/tools and mount. It was my understanding that the spare and associated tools had to be present with the vehicle for it to be a certified pre-owned.

I know I should have checked before purchase, but I didn't think to, considering it's a CPO and these are on the CPO checklist. What advice would you give in this situation?

Other than this I'm super glad to be part of the gang. I should have bought one of these a long time ago!
