Well, I got busted...

Kid: how come the speedometer goes to 120 when the max speed is 106?

My wife: HOW DO YOU KNOW IT GOES 106?!?

I tried to explain how you have to know how a car will handle in extreme situations so you can drive safely, but it was a half-hearted explanation at best.

Edit: wait, you guys think I'm in a neighborhood holding a baby out the window with one arm going 106, or something?

Obviously, anything can happen at any time. My daughter is 17, races mountain bikes casually and go karts on an amateur circuit. She was actually driving, me in shotgun. Absolutely as controlled as can be circumstances.

Just thought it was funny, I know for a fact most of you have had fun in this power-house of a truck.

A fun warranty experience with a question and possible warning...

So my truck, a '22 Lariat, which has been fantastic up until this point, got the 'stop safely now' error in my MIL's driveway a couple weeks ago. Sucks, but Ford roadside came in clutch and we were able to get it to our local dealership without too much drama.

Got to the dealership, they did some checking on the 12v, determined that wasn't the issue, and found that the BMS had failed. Thankfully the truck has 99k miles on the odometer meaning had this gremlin waited a few more weeks I would have been -screwed-.

That said...the work order apparently needs both a new BMS module and a specific wiring harness for the module. As it turns out there is only -one- of those harnesses left in the entire country, and we're not even sure it actually functions/exists. Additionally apparently the part is being retired by Ford??

So...what happens if they literally cant fix the truck due to lack of parts?

PS: FoMoCo and the dealer have been totally reasonable and helpful so far through this process, did have a couple hiccups with a lack of loaners and a service advisor quitting mid-stream, but both were resolved by the companies involved. I'm mostly just wondering what (if any) options I'll have if my truck is bricked forever...

A few questions...

So about a week in and loving it. 25 flash. So a couple questions below.

  1. The manual doesn't give me the spec for the 12v battery. What is the cca on it? I can't see it without taking it out.

  2. I am planning on going to a festival in a couple months. I'm in Texas, it's hot. It will probably take at least 3 hours to get out of the parking lot, and ac/radio would be on. What is your experience with how fast those 2 drain the battery? This will be my first trip "away from home"

Thanks.

Truck Stuff

Man the torque on this thing is nuts when pulling a trailer. Super smooth. Haven’t set up pro trailer back up assist yet, but the little trick it does to back you right up to the trailer hitch is awesome 😎

Guessing it’s a coolant valve issue?

Picked up my new to me ‘24 Flash last week. By day two I started getting the yellow wrench powertrain warning about 50% of the time I drive. There is no loss in power or anything else as far as I can tell. What I did start noticing is that when it happens my motor temp starts to rise. It never gets above any threshold or faults out. It just runs around the 75% mark as opposed to the middle 50% line where it normally sits.

Has anyone else dealt with this? I’m assuming it’s a coolant diverter valve issue and an easy fix. Fingers crossed.

New to me 2023 Pro Extended Range

Finally got myself a Lightning, new to me 2023 Pro Extended Range with only 15k miles. Came from a 2023 Tesla Model 3 Performance. It's nice coming back to a truck. Sucks I don't have the large vertical screen but I do like the manual AC and Volume buttons

Wanna be Lightning owner. Can some explain to me (dum it down) what this pic represents and if there is anything that is worrisome? Like is the battery charge level too low.

I took this from a website that is selling a used truck that I am interested in. Is there anything that is concerning to you?

Pricing Reality Check, Please

I see that the megathread hasn't been updated since April- if this is considered spam then please remove me - no hard feelings.

I am in Southern California looking at buying my first Lightning. I am leaning toward going with a used 2023 Lariat 511A with under 50,000 miles. 2 that piqued my interest have popped up in the last few weeks - one was sold at $48.5k before I could get there. There is another one close by that is priced just under $50k and it has about 28k miles on it.

I see that a few months ago (and even a year ago!!), some of you were buying similar low-mileage Lightnings in the same trim for high $30k low $40s but even my nationwide search doesn't show pricing as good as that. I see similar trucks posted for ~$45k

Am I crazy to buy one at $50k?

Winter tires needed? Disable One Pedal in the snow?

Have had my truck for a few months (2024 Flash,) but looking ahead, I'm wondering if needing winter/snow tires should be on my radar. I live in WNY, just on the northern fringes of the lake effect belt, so we get snow, but not the snow you see on the news unless it's a normal storm.

I never put snow tires on my ICE trucks, I'd either sandbag the rear axle or throw it in 4WD.

I'm curious if winter tires are recommended for the Lightning or if the weight is enough to make them unnecessary. If they are, any recommendations?

Also curious if one pedal drive is different in the snow. My head-canon says the abrupt deceleration can cause loss of control, but again, the weight comes to mind.

Thanks for any insight/feedback.

Made it home by the skin of my teeth

Once the battery hit zero I turned off the AC and coasted down hill to the driveway. I was nervous that I wouldn’t take it up the driveway to my charger. I did discover that when the battery is low the truck will charge to 25% even if it’s out side of its preferred charging time. Most likely to protect the battery. But it’s pretty quick, got to love the 80amp home charging.

Ford Pass Unlock

I think my wife left the key in truck and climate controlled a few times, now Ford Pass will not unlock the truck, any suggestions? Alternatively it's been about a year since I got the truck, it came with free first year subscriptions I have been cancelling is there a subscription I need for unlock to work?

Edit: So the conclusion roadside assistance came, used an airbag wedge, hit the unlock button but the truck went into security mode and wouldn't unlock l, he was then trying to unlock the door manually but the handle is strange. Now that the truck had awaken a bit I tried again on the app and whatever glitch was going on in the software was resolved and it unlocked. It seems to be something with remote climate.

Tips/advice needed on buying out of state.

Long Island here. No Lightnings to be had near me or adjoining states. So seriously considering purchasing one out of state. Can you provide some advice on how to go about this. There is a 2023 Lariat w 25k in the Mid West that looks good for 49.300. What’s the best way of buying out of state. When I called I was told the truck is in transit (I guess they purchased at auction). Have to say the salesperson just seemed like he was reading from a script and had no time to talk with an out of stater. Frustrating.
Thanks in advance.

Warranty/ESP procedure

I’m getting close to purchasing the ESP for my ‘23 lightning lariat ER with 35,500 miles on it. my question is if I need to take it in to utilize the ESP what should I expect for out of pocket? will there first be a diagnostics or other fee before the ESP will kick in? any other “gotchas?”

Thanks!

Dealership near me has an unsold 2025 listed for MSRP plus doc fee.

I stopped and asked what kind of deal they would do on it, and they said since they stopped production it is rare to find one brand new, so they weren't willing to back off the price at all.

I just wonder how long they will keep it before giving up and marking it down.

Those who live in cold weather states.

I live in MN, it can get to -40 at times, and park in an enclosed area at home but it is not heated and it has cracks (very old building)

How is the range in weather like this?

Does it still charge well?

Part number of the Accessory Ready cover in the bed?

I've search google in and out found nothing even the local ford part guy didn't find it.
I don't have a lightning but i would like to buy this cover to replace the one on the driver side so i could put my 400w outlet to the right and add an outlet for the winch power to the left.
