Hey guys,
I have a question about joining the Legion that I couldn’t really find a clear answer to.
I’m considering starting TRT because of low testosterone levels, but I’ve always had this idea of becoming a Legionnaire one day and I don’t want to do anything that could close that door.
Does anyone know if being on medically prescribed TRT would be an automatic disqualification during the medical examination?
Other than that, I’m healthy, train regularly, and I’m confident I could meet the physical standards.
Has anyone here had experience with this or knows how the Legion handles cases like this?
Thanks!
Or any flying vehicle
Hello , I'm 27 , 40k in credit card debt, discharged from the navy because of mental health condition like homicidal ideation, only served 1 year, Mexican-American , more fluent in Spanish than in English , that's enough to get disqualified?
Thought it was great when they used to swagger up the champs Elysées after everyone else saying
"We volunteered for this"
Huge balls - but it seems they don't sing it anymore. What's up with that?
Back when I was a younger légionnaire, all I could hear was « à mon époque c’était pas comme ça » or « c’était mieux avant » kind of bs.
Several years (and many ranks) have passed and I can’t help but repeat the same stupid phrases to the younger ones. I don’t think the legion changed this much since I joined, so what could explain the psychology behind this ?
It just occured to me, and I cant be the first one. If you get a new identity while you serve, and own nothing in your previous identity, would there be a reason not to take a massive cash load?
I am a content creator with an established following on TikTok, Facebook, and YouTube. I have a large catalog of content that does NOT involve anything military (skits, trends, etc.). If I join the Legion, am I allowed to have a trusted team member or manager schedule and post my old, pre-filmed videos or can I keep on making content after basic training Since the content doesn't show a uniform, military bases, or my current life, would the Legion still consider this a violation of their security and social media rules?
Hi everyone, im a Filipino and currently 16 years old. I’m planning ahead because I really want to join the French Foreign Legion after I graduate.
A bit about me:
- I’m physically active and already preparing myself for the discipline and training.
- I know the risks of deployment and I’m serious about becoming a Legionnaire.
- I have partial hearing loss in one ear, but I can function normally in daily life.
- I also have two extra teeth in front (like vampire haha), but they’ve never caused me pain or problems.
My question is:
Would these medical conditions (partial hearing loss + extra teeth) be a big issue during the Legion medical exam? Has anyone here seen recruits with similar conditions get accepted or rejected?
I’d really appreciate hearing from former Legionnaires or anyone with experience about how strict the medical checks are, and what I should prepare for.
Hi everyone anticipated thanks to those that answer.
I’ve been in the British Army recruitment process for paras from the beginning of the year now, and seems like it will still take a while before even being assessed to see if I can join or not. The waiting is putting me off, the reason why I initially chose Paras and not the Legion is because “sounded easier for me and my wife”, we would get housing, live together etc. at this point I am started to re focus on the Legion and give it some thought. Im 29 and since applying for the British army thinking it would be fast I quit my job and am just “lost in the void” the only thing I do is train.
I know that when joining the Legion you get stripped of your identity and kept away from your comforts and wont be able to leave France for a while. Thats the only thing that scares my wife, not being able to see each other for years to come, is that true? Do you get time off? Is it feasible to see each other? She can work from anywhere we could be close if needed, how is free time structured? I would do the sacrifice to join but I need to understand how all this would go down, of course deployments and things like this happen in the Uk too, training for paras is 7 months at we already knew we wouldnt see eachother for that long so thats no the issue, its more the being in contact or seeing each other later on during the career
If anyone found themselves in this situation or has any info regarding this id highly appreciate it.
Hi everyone,
I may apply for a short-stay Schengen visa to Germany for language course/visit. A relative of mine in Germany may provide an invitation, accommodation, and financial support.
My question is: if I travel to France and try to join the French Foreign Legion, could my relative in Germany face any legal problems because he invited or financially supported me for the Schengen visa?
Hello everyone

I have two questions. Firstly, how strong is the identity they give you (let's say you stay for 5 year contract and then leave), can I really hold if you have a bad history with the law in your country (not rape or other big charges), can you really join the FFL and after live your life somewhere else with the passport and identity they give you. Secondly, I will have an eye surgery soon and looking to join maybe later on couple of months later, in the site it says I have to wait 1 year and I can't so can there be exceptions ( I know not likely) but I am looking for answers from former people who have joined and served and maybe heard smth from their commanders and not the general answer "no you have to wait 12 months". Although any answer is accepted and considered.

Thank you

The only thing I fear about is I have skinny fat and my knees are slightly knocked.
Former or current legionnaires: during basic training, what is the average distance of a ruck march and how much weight is usually carried?
Not the maximum or selection marches—just the typical training rucks. How many km and how many kg?
Est-il possible de changer de nom définitivement ?
Peut-on obtenir la nationalité avec ce nouveau nom ?

I'm considering joining and I'm curious about life after the Legion. If you completed your contract and left, what path did you take afterward?

- Did you stay in France or move somewhere else?
- What kind of job do you have now?
- Did your Legion experience help your career?
- Do you feel it was worth the years you spent there?
- If you could go back, would you do it again?

From Facebook:
A former U.S. Army soldier convicted of rape, desertion and indecent assault was arrested in Spain nearly 30 years after fleeing his unit in Germany, ending one of the longest-running manhunts in U.S. Marshals history, the agency announced last week.
Jesse Bussey, who had been on the run since 1996, was arrested Nov. 10, 2025, in Málaga, Spain, where authorities said he was teaching English and living under an alias. He has been extradited to the U.S. Disciplinary Barracks at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, where he begins his 16-year military prison sentence.
Bussey was convicted in absentia for rape, desertion and two counts of indecent assault. In addition to the imprisonment, he also received a reduction in grade to E-1 and dishonorable discharge.
He was last seen fueling his vehicle at a gas station on an Army base in Schweinfurt, Germany, before disappearing. Using a different identity, the Marshals said he joined the French Foreign Legion in late 1996 and served until early 2000
