Rust?

Hi guys - I know there has been an influx of questions about undercarriage and rust and y’all are probably tired of seeing them. However, I’m looking at a vehicle in Colorado with what looks to be minor surface rust but being from Texas, I genuinely have no idea what an acceptable amount is and what is going to give me problems down the road.

What do you guys think?

Tpms light from missing spare

I removed my spare simply because I can’t use it with the different wheel tire setup. Any tricks to make the light go off? Or does it need a reprogram of some kind to remove the 5th wheel.

Love looking back at her.

Right after you wash it, and you just know it'll have bird shit on it before dark.

Is this too pricey?

Hey guys. Looking at this gx470 I’m thinking about flying across the country to grab, it’s got 131,000 miles and is maybe the most immaculate condition GX I’ve ever seen. 1 owner, perfect carfax aside from not having timing belt done
Dealer wants roughly 17k.

**EDIT- sounds like it’s not a bad deal. White paint can give me some issues but keep her garaged up, I’m gonna put the deposit down tomorrow and get a flight booked to New York to grab it 🎉

Front Firewall Leak

I own a 2006 GX470, I need help with a leak that appears to be coming in from the left corner, drivers side. I’ve done the following:

  1. Windshield is new and has been sealed twice.
  2. Sunroof drains are clear and draining properly.

I removed the cowling cover in front of the windshield and ran a water test. Water only seeps in when the water is flowing on the farthest left corner past the windshield.

If you’ve experienced this, what did you do to fix the issue?

Thanks to all and looking forward to a solution!

How cooked am I? 2022 rear diff pinhole leak

Purchased this 2022 GX with 55k miles last October. Clearly in the rust belt. Leaks about a drip or two every hour. How can I fix this?

How big of a job is wheel bearing hubs on the 470?

Just had the bushings, minus the steering rack done and some new lower rear control arms by iron man installed. The mechanic was going to do my steering bushings too but informed me my rack is leaking and needs to be replaced soonish, so I'll do the rest of the bushings then. But after 220,000 miles I gotta think my wheel bearings need some attention, at least a good cleaning and repacking. Anymore have experience in this endeavor? I'll do it myself if it's not a complete bastard.

Buying my first GX460 (2011) for $8,500 good deal? Best large-screen infotainment ? rear screen replacements ? + tire size on stock wheels?

I’m about to buy a 2011 Lexus GX460 in a private sale for $8,500 and wanted some opinions from people who actually know these trucks.
The seller says it’s the Premium trim, which from what I understand was the higher trim level for 2011.
He says the GX has roughly 150k actual miles, but the original gauge cluster failed and was replaced with a used cluster that currently shows around 190k miles. I understand that the mileage discrepancy/unknown mileage is something I’ll have to live with and disclose when I eventually sell it.
Other than that, the truck seems to be in really good condition. The paint/body are very clean and the owner took care of a lot of the cosmetic details. The damaged interior areas were redone in marine-grade vinyl. He says he changes the oil and filter around every 3,000 miles, it has never had a check-engine light, and the only warning currently is for a tire-pressure sensor.
The factory rear air suspension was also deleted and converted to coil springs. He says the rear springs are from an FJ Cruiser/TRD setup, and he’s also including a 2-inch lift kit that he bought but never installed.
It also has the factory rear-seat entertainment system with the screens in the backs of the front seats. Both screens still work, but the screens themselves are pretty scratched up. Has anyone replaced just those factory screens with newer aftermarket displays while keeping the OEM location/fit? I would love to modernize those too instead of having scratched 2011 screens back there.
I’m buying it as a fun daily/project and don’t want to go crazy spending money right away.
A few questions:
At $8,500, would you consider this a good buy even with the cluster/mileage situation?
Is there an easy way to confirm whether it’s actually a Premium and what factory options it originally came with?
What is currently the best large-screen infotainment upgrade for a 2011 GX460? I want something that looks modern and integrated, preferably a large vertical/Tesla-style screen with wireless CarPlay. I’ve seen some Alibaba units and also Hamilton Motor Company/Hamilton-style systems. Which one is actually reliable and worth buying?
Are there any large screens/brands I should specifically avoid because of bad audio quality, HVAC integration, slow software, bugs, poor cameras, etc.?
What would you guys do about the scratched factory rear entertainment screens? Can I replace only the LCD/screens with newer aftermarket ones while keeping the factory housings, or is there a better retrofit?
What is the largest tire size you would recommend on the current factory wheels without changing wheels? I’d rather spend the money on tires and suspension first instead of buying another set of wheels.
Since it already has the rear coil conversion and I’ll have a 2-inch lift kit available, what tire size/setup would you personally run for a mostly street-driven GX that I still want to look aggressive and be legitimately capable off-road?
I’m not trying to build a hardcore rock crawler. I just want a clean OEM+/overland-style GX with a bigger stance, modern infotainment, bigger tires and enough capability to have fun off-road.

Gx470 stock chrome wheels

I’m looking to sell these wheels and I’m not sure how much they are worth. I haven’t found many listings for the chrome stocks.

Is ACDelco still a decent wheel hub assembly, there's so many manufacturers, just want quality!

Parts geek has so many manufacturers of wheel hub assemblies it's hard to know which one is with putting on my GX. I would like to not have to replace them again, so I don't mind spending the money. Advice on this would be appreciated.

Grabbed these today!

Pretty psyched, got a sweet deal on these. Retail for ~$1200, snagged off marketplace for $800. Didn’t fit on previous owners’ classic.

Lock Off-Road Onyx
17x9 6x139.7 -12mm offset

I’ve wanted a more aggressive look instead of my plasti-dipped stock wheels that I bought my 05 470 with, so these were a snag.

I’ll throw the current 265/65/17 since they have life!

Is there a “best” OBD2 Scanner?

In the market for an OBD2 scanner.. I’ve never had anything different than the generic one from any auto parts store… are there better ones to consider? Toyota/Lexus specific ones?

Let me know your thoughts!

Gx leak troubles

i’m having a very confusing leak. When I park a car or let it sit overnight behind the rear driver wheel there will be a small puddle of yellow/amber clear fluid. It’s oily and it’s obvious that it’s coming from this area. I have watched the fluid drip from a tiny hole in the body of the car. I can’t trace it back any further. Pictures attached, brake reservoir doesn’t seem to be losing any fluid, but I’ve only noticed it for about two days.

Recommendations on a new build

I've got a 2011 that I bought a couple years ago with the intention of turning into an overlander. Well, the truck's paid off, all of the core fixes are done, credit card has room, and I'm ready to start shoppin' and choppin'. This is an image I am using as inspiration, but other than the rear suspension, my truck is still mostly stock claret mica red GX - so, it's mostly a clean slate at this point. I did also get an OTT tune, that I'm loving - except for the fuel economy (it's just so rev happy now).

Anywho, what I'm wanting to find out is,

  1. Between the Victory 4x4 Strike and Expedition One rear bumpers, which is better? Are there other bumpers I should look at with similar designs? I definitely like the double swing design, but I could consider other options. I want to be able to tow, but I also want max departure angle.

  2. I'm a disabled vet with reduced mobility, and frequently carry others with mobility issues. What I'm looking for is a solid rock rail/slider solution that would allow me to add automatic retracting steps inside or behind the sliders. Any suggestions?

  3. I'm looking to go to 33s or 34s, with custom wheels, and 2.5"-3" lift. I know the stock offset is +25. I've been looking at wheels with +18, to reduce how much body mods I'll need to make. How far out can I go with 34s without needing to do major surgery? Given my goals are not to do extreme wheeling in this vehicle (got other plans for that), what is kind of the sweet spot for tire size/offset?

  4. What are some of the surprises you've found that you wish you had known about before your build? Unexpected costs? Mods? Changes that, in hindsight, you would have done differently?

Appreciate the input.

06 470 Wheels, UCA, LBJ

Had a chance to get a few photos after the alignment yesterday. Trucks dirty af wish I could get around to wash it but whatever. This is how it sits with the RRW 17x8.5 -25 rims and RRW Billet Upper Control arms. Replaced the lower torn ball joints with Moog units. Recently had the tires installed and rear pan hard bar installed.

What do you guys think? Also I was thinking about switching out the fog light lenses with either clear or factory amber lenses, which color would look good?
