Finally Optimized S22

Hey everyone,

I was pretty frustrated with this device so I decided to heavily debloat my S22 and got rid of stuff like GOS, Personal Intelligence, Customization services, etc. I also turned off every single tracking feature Google and Samsung use. My phone is blazing fast now! All the lags and stutters are gone, and the slow fingerprint issue is solved. Everything's super snappy [Proof that samsung slows down old phones intentionally]. Battery got better too

Here's what I did:

  1. Disabled all the Samsung and Google crap with Universal Android Debloater.

  2. For most apps (like 80%), I restricted battery optimization and turned off background data.

  3. Most apps are in deep sleep or sleep mode.

  4. I turned off all unnecessary settings, like precise location using Wi-Fi and Bluetooth scanning, Play Protect, and Theft Protection. I went through every setting category and disabled a bunch of stuff, especially Google's.

  5. Revoked all unnecessary permissions from apps.

  6. Cleared out my storage.

  7. Turned off many settings in Google Play Services, the Store, and other Google apps.

  8. I use all Meta apps through the web now, except WhatsApp.

  9. Many Google apps, like Photos, are huge battery drainers, so I either uninstalled them or put them in deep sleep.

Here's a list of apps I disabled:

AI wallpaper

Android Auto

Android System Intelligence [Big one]

Autofill with Samsung Pass

Avatar Editor

Avatar Stickers

Smart Switch

Customization Service [Big one]

DiagMonAgent

Galaxy Avatar

Game Booster [Big one]

Game Optimizing Service [Big one]

Gaming Hub [Big one]

Link to Windows

Meet

Messages

Microsoft SwiftKey Factory Sett

Modes and Routines

My Galaxy

OK Google Hotword

Personal data intelligence [Big One]

Samsung Checkout

Samsung News

Samsung Free

Galaxy Store

Samsung Cloud

Samsung Pass

Samsung Visit In

Samsung Wallet Digital Key

Smart Switch

Voice wake-up

Wearable Manager Installer

Galaxy Store

Digital Key Framework

Wireless Emergency Alerts

Things I didn't mess with:

  1. All contacts sync, Gmail sync, and necessary features are still on.

  2. Don't mess with the clock, or you'll lose your alarms.

  3. Don't mess with any setting you don't know, or it might cause problems.

IMPORTANT NOTE:

I found all these apps constantly running in RAM through Device Care and disabled them.

I got a big performance boost, but I noticed something: yesterday, my phone had better standby, but once it got hot, the battery dropped quickly, not sure like before.

Today, everything was fine. Much better thermals and battery. I Googled it, and found, the phone might need a few days to adjust.

So, basically, the CPU is running in unrestricted mode. If you do anything heavy, it might get super hot and drain the battery faster. I found two solutions:

  1. Thermal Guardian from Samsung: Works like a charm, and the heating issue is completely solved [just adjust that slider by -2°].

  2. ADB command: `restricted device performance 1,1` [Just Google the syntax].This limits the CPU speed to 70% and gives you better battery life too. Personally I might try this for better battery but if it doesn't work I will use thermal Guardian [that works fine]

Let's test this for a few days. Today battery life and thermals were good without any of the above 2 settings. I nearly got 7 hrs of SOT [60HZ with basic usage]. I will also change my battery in a few weeks as it's old now

Also I am a bit confused how to execute the second command properly[whether to turn batterysaver ON or OFF while doing this]. So if anyone knows please guide me.

Anything else I should do?? I am open to suggestions

Sudden battery drain on Snapdragon S22 Ultra

"I'm experiencing a sudden and significant battery drain on my Snapdragon S22 Ultra. I used to get around 4.5 hours of Screen-On Time (SOT), but recently it has dropped to barely 3.5 hours.

Here is what I have already tried:

o Performed a full factory reset.

Reduced/removed my Good Lock customizations.

Checked battery health via Samsung Members, which shows it's at 89%.

Despite these efforts, the issue persists. I'm getting really frustrated with this device. Has anyone faced a similar issue recently, or is there something else might be missing? Any tips on what I should do next would be greatly appreciated."

S22 Stuck in a reboot loop - time to get a new phone?

First post on reddit but I'm all out of options here!

As of yesterday my S22 phone which I've had for almost 3 years now has started to fail to the point of being unusable.

It has gone into a 'reboot loop' where it powers on, goes onto the Samsung screen, and then powers off. It will reboot once every 5-10 seconds. Force restarting (holding power and volume down) doesn't work. Entering recovery mode (power and volume up) only gives me the options to restart, power off, or factory reset! I've managed factory reset the phone and I am still having the same issue. I thought it started to behave again as I managed to setup the phone and began using it again, but the reboot cycle has returned! It's become very unreliable and frustrating.

I have taken the phone to a repair shop and they quoted me £210 as they believe its a motherboard issue. Is it worth getting the repair or just getting a new phone at this point? Or is there anything else I can do that I haven't tried yet?

Edit: Phone has fully died as of this morning! It won't power on and it won't charge, will be getting a new phone today

Farewell to S22+

It's a sad post to write.

I've been using my S22+ for a little over 4 years now. Bought it a few months after launch, and despite all its flaws, it was genuinely one of my favorite phones.

I even replaced the battery in 2025, and it still managed around 6 hours of SOT—good enough for my daily use.

Here's my older post: https://www.reddit.com/r/GalaxyS22/s/AeaZyoX7ah

Then one day, while I was on a video call, my S22+ decided it had enough. It heated up like a portable induction cooktop, started dropping 1% every 5 seconds, shut itself off, and refused to charge.

After cooling down, it would charge to about 10–12%, get hot again, and discharge even while plugged in. Peak S22 behavior.

Samsung Service Center diagnosed it as a motherboard failure. Repair estimate: around $300.

At that price, I think it's finally time to let it retire.

The S22+ really lived up to its reputation till the very end:

Battery? Questionable.

Thermals? Nuclear.

Camera? Fantastic.

One UI? Still one of the best.

Reliability? Well... it literally went out in a blaze of glory.

I guess my Snapdragon finally identified as an Exynos. 💀

So long, old friend. Thanks for surviving four years of abuse, charging twice a day, and keeping my hands warm every winter.

Off to e-waste recycling. 🫡

My S22+ - Time to replace?

I've had my S22+ for nearly four years, and whilst it still seems to be running perfectly, with no overheating, good battery life, and no discernable lagging, I'm slightly concerned that it's suddenly going to die on me (probably shouldn't have read so many posts on here!), so I'm wondering whether to upgrade.

To those who's phones have bitten the dust, did you get any warning signs that it was on the way out? What are the early symptoms of an imminent failure of some kind?

I have around 155 GB of music and photos, most of which are backed up, but a backup of my music takes around 4-5 hours to transfer to a laptop, then another 4-5 hours to transfer to a new device, which is not a task I take lightly (it was much easier when we had SD cards), so I don't want to change phones unnecessarily.

Linha rosa na tela do S22

O defeito mais famoso da linha S dos Galaxy chegou no meu S22. Estava usando normalmente quando percebi a sutil linha rosa no canto direito da tela. Então percebi oque estava prestes a acontecer.

S22 BOOTLOOP AND IT'S FIX

What happened:

I updated my S22 to the May security patch, and later that same night the phone started randomly rebooting whenever it was under load. By the next morning, it had progressed into constant bootloops and would barely stay on before restarting again.

What I did (and what you should do if you ever end up in the same situation):

Luckily, I still had brief periods where the phone would work normally, so I immediately backed up all my data using Smart Switch. The backup completed successfully.

After that, I tried a factory reset, but as expected, it didn't fix the issue. At that point, I knew it was most likely a hardware issue (likely a BGA solder joint failure on the motherboard), so I took it to a repair shop.

Possible solutions:

  1. If you're on a tight budget, avoid the Samsung service center. They generally recommend replacing the entire motherboard or offering an exchange for a new phone, which is very expensive.

  2. Try the software fixes first. Someone here suggested updating One UI Home and checking for Google Play system updates. It's worth trying, although in my case everything was already up to date.

  3. The actual fix (at least in my case): Find a reputable local repair shop that does motherboard reballing. In my case, the repair involved reballing the CPU/RAM package (BGA rework). Make sure they're experienced, as this is delicate work and a bad repair can permanently damage the board.

I got my phone back after 22 days (the irony 😅), but it's been working perfectly since then. The repair cost me ₹6,000 (around $60 USD), though prices may vary depending on where you live and the shop you choose.

Hopefully this helps someone else who runs into the same issue.

Battery swelling - is it salvageable?

My S22 keeps rebooting as soon as it starts up, overheating, and the battery is swelling a good bit. I have a replacement phone already, but I have some really important documents on the S22 that I really stupidly haven’t backed up. I know, it’s really dumb and I feel like a mug for not backing up such an important thing.
Is this salvageable at all in any way?

My battery is swelling, how long do I have left with this phone?

My battery started swelling today and my phone is all misshapen. I ordered the Galaxy S26 but it says it won't be here until July 5- 9

Will my phone make it until then? :(

My phone keep freezing and restarting

So this has only started happening in the past couple days. I've went into safe mode and checked for viruses, cleared cache data, I have enough storage left (usually that's the issue so I know how much storage I can use before it starts messing up). It's not like getting hot or anything. It just randomly will freeze and then shut down. It did this yesterday when I was on 3% and refused to turn back on for like an hr. That could be a seperate issue though. I really don't wanna factory reset as then it'll take FOREVER to get things back as they were. Plus I have texts from my dead dad on my phone I don't really know how to back up and I don't want to risk losing. If I HAVE to factory reset I will but like I said I really don't want to do that. Any ideas as to why it may be doing this and how to fix it? I'm not very tech savvy so I may just be missing something 😅

HELP ! Samsung S22 Ultra shows logo then goes black, won't boot ... ='(

Hello!

I could really use your help, guys!

I connected my Samsung S22 Ultra to my PC using a USB cable that wasn't the original Samsung cable to transfer some videos. The transfer completed instantly, but I wasn't paying attention and left the phone plugged into the PC for about an hour while I continued using my computer.

When I finally checked it, I found the phone completely powered off with a black screen, and now it won't boot.

I tried following the instructions in this video:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZXema10D51U

I left it charging on the original Samsung wall charger for over 45 minutes, but it doesn't show the charging percentage, charging icon, or any sign of life.

When I hold Volume Down + Power for about 15 seconds, the Samsung logo appears for a few seconds, but then the phone returns to a black screen. It never actually boots into Android. I can repeat the process and get the same result every time.

For reference, I had not installed the latest One UI update (I believe it was One UI 6.1). I had postponed it because I had heard reports of some devices being bricked after the update.

Does anyone have any advice on how I can get it to boot again, or at least recover my data?

Thanks!

Thats not good at all. I don't like the way everybody just kept quiet and moved on like nothing Happened

Time to say goodbye.

After my s22 finally gave in I switched to an iPhone 11 and oh my god even though it’s older it’s so much smoother and faster. Says a lot about Exynos 2200 chips.

So did we just stop talking about One-Ui8.5 for the s22 series? Did we get any official news or is the long delay an answer? I sure AF will be getting another brand in a few months if we dont get the 8.5..

One ui 6 to 7 and 7 to 8 werent big updates but when samsung finally gets their shit together and release a proper update, the s22 flagships phone cant get it ?! Its not even one ui9... just 8.5... i wouldnt be so disappointed had one ui7 and 8 been decent big updates or had this been one ui9

I can only see myself as a clown if i buy any galaxy phone again If we dont get 8.5.

Samsung S22 suddenly unusable (freezing/rebooting loop) - motherboard failure?

I’ve been using my Samsung S22 for a while, but out of nowhere, it started lagging severely, freezing, and then randomly restarting.

I’ve already tried a factory reset, but the issue persists. I took it to an authorized Samsung service center, and they told me the motherboard needs to be replaced. They specifically mentioned that the problem is either with the processor or the power IC.

I’m honestly really disappointed with Samsung's quality control lately. To make matters worse, the battery had already bloated a few months ago, and I had to pay to get it replaced.

Has anyone else dealt with this specific hardware failure on the S22? Is it even worth fixing at this point, or should I just look for another phone?

Instagram is ruining our performance

I'm using an S22+ with OneUI 8.0. This year instagram definitely doesn't work properly with this version, maybe it doesn't work with the Snapdragon 8 Gen1, but even if I put the app in deep sleep and checked it when needed, it would overheat excessively and drastically again slow down the processor. It almost only took 1-2 minutes for it to burst into flames, and it was crazy. I had installed Instagram Lite for notifications, but eventually that method also got on my nerves, and I discovered I could patch Instagram via Piko and Morphe. I completely uninstalled Instagram and installed this patched app, BINGO! I'm scrolling through Reels and the phone never overheats. The overall experience has improved so much that I've really started to feel like I'm using a problem-free phone.

Upgraded to s26, actually impressed with camera improvements over my s22

I was tempted to go to the dark side of giant expensive phone due to lack of hardware upgrades on the image sensor front but in the end my pinky's comfort and one handed habits won out and I ended up with the s26 base. I don't really need a new phone, the ~2hr SOT of my s22 is really enough for 95% of my daily needs, but the promise of 512gb storage (can kick the can of freeing up space on my device down the road for good little while) and the specter of phone price increases in the next year due to ai madness was enough to sway me into the upgrade. I figured the camera image processing should be better but I was not prepared for a dramatic improvement in the clarity of the 50mp image, dunno if it's because I had a lemon of a lens, or if my tendency to applaud with my phone in hand has knocked the lens out of prime, but anyway even in the center of the image where auto focus generally guarantees an in focus image has gotten way better, and the edges of the image have gotten a huge boost in quality which is nice for me since I'm a landscape photography pixel peeper by habit. Not to mention dramatically improved shutter lag, s22 takes probably 700ms between clicking button and capturing image while the s26 is probably 100ms or less. I don't see people mentioning these things, granted it's annoying af that Samsung keeps identical image sensors for past 4 years but surprisingly to me the main camera has gotten way better due to a better lens (at least in my case) and likely improved processing algorithms.

So I don't feel quite as jilted being an American having to deal with stagnant phone market hopefully next time I upgrade in 2030 Samsung will still have smallish light weight one hander phones with an actual upgraded image sensor suite (I heard there will be an s27 pro that has the upgraded sensor suite but I'm not going to take my chances on waiting to upgrade what with memory and storage prices going way out to the moon)
