How do I remove the bottom bar?

It's on the home screen and in every app. There's no option for it in navigation bar gestures. I read it had something to do with Samsung wallet but I don't have that app installed

Man, there's so much misinformation around comparisons between Fold 8 vs Fold 8 Ultra.

I just bought my Fold. But while investigating, I swear, trying to decide between these two is way harder than it needs to be because people keep repeating the same oversimplified arguments like they're facts.

A lot of these "this one is better for X" takes are only half true and can be interpreted either way easily.

  • "The Fold 8 is better one-handed." Better for reaching the top, yes. But it's also much wider, so typing one-handed is harder. It's better and worse one-handed at the same time.
  • The Fold 8 has the better cover display Yes, sometimes, depends on what you're doing. Certain apps have scaling issues, vertical video has big black bars, and it's so short the keyboard takes up the entire screen. It's a different better/worse cover display depending on your use case.
  • "The Fold 8 inner display has the better shape for video and productivity as its more landscape/portrait." Yes... if fitting apps side-by-side is your only metric. But for anything that fills the entire screen (documents, browsing, etc) the Ultra often gives you far more actual usable space and the better productivity canvas. Video also is the close to the same size on both regardless of black bars. Both displays are great.
  • "The Ultra is too narrow/unusable when closed." It's narrower, yes, but that also makes it easier to hold and type one-handed. Typing with 2 hands is still better on the Wide keyboard, as well as one-handed reachability.
  • "They have the same chip, so performance is basically the same." Same chip doesn't mean same sustained performance/cooling. The regular Fold 8 wide throttles a lot harder under sustained load in a lot of testing whereas the Ultra doesn't nearly as much (gaming shows noticeable differences). Which is expected due to Samsung using a graphite cooling (instead of vapor chamber) on the Ultra but not on the regular Wide.
  • "The Fold 8 primary/wide cameras are basically the same as the Ultra in day to day use." No. The Ultra has a meaningfully bigger main sensor. That matters much more not just in low light, but also blurry photos of even slightly moving subjects (smaller sensor = takes much longer to take a picture). Comparisons of taking a photo of a building in perfect daylight spammed to death rarely discuss this.
  • "The Fold 8 camera is bad." That's also exaggerated. In daylight it's perfectly capable. The compromises only show up more with zoom, low light and motion and if you keep comparing them side by side, which most realistically will not.
  • "The Fold 8 Ultra telephoto is unusable" That's exaggerated too. Sure, zoom is much more limited and only usable at 5-15x, but its still perfectly serviceable in daylight and still provides essential utility of being able to read things far away when the Fold 8 camera immediately falls apart rapidly at range due to the small sensor + smaller megapixel number.
  • "The Fold 8 is the obvious media Fold." Then why does basically nobody mention the terrible speaker orientation and audio only on one side of your ear?? Screen shape is only one part of watching something. They are both perfectly reasonable video devices.
  • "The Ultra is just objectively better." No. It's bigger, has the better camera hardware, generally better thermals and more workspace. But it's heavier, taller, has more wasted space around some media and doesn't give you a dramatically bigger fullscreen video image in exchange.

Notice how this list is NOT about trying to convince you "X argument is wrong, Y is correct" or "The Ultra is better". Even if there was a lot of correction on the Wide model, which makes sense, being the new / exciting / different option, everyone and every reviewer will be in its honeymoon period exaggerating the things they loved about it while quietly ignoring problems everyone should be aware of (just as we did when the original Z Fold released).

The overall goal is just to show how poor some these takes can be if expressed as fact rather than opinion, and why its silly trying to make nuanced things seem black/white when the truth is just incredibly subjective and depends on what YOU want.

Both are great, amazing devices in their own right, I got the Ultra and planning to gift my wife a Fold 8 Wide eventually as I know she'd love it. And NOT because the Ultra is "superior", but because it happens to fit my specific needs right now better, while I know she would HATE the Ultra and love the Wide.

In short, let's do new buyers a favor and stop misleading them with false arguments presented as fact just because we're overly passionate about a specific device. (Specially you, device reviewers) You can like a device a device more and present why you like it just fine, just remain honest.

Thanks for coming to my TED Talk

Yup this is the case.

It's a Spigen Ultra Hybrid Pro MagFit case. It's available on Amazon, and while I've experienced the issue mentioned in the reviews, it doesn't really concern me.

Best MagSafe kickstand options for Z Fold 8

Just got my Z Fold 8 and I'm really liking it, but I’m missing having a built-in kickstand. I tried the UAG case first for the stand, but sent it back because $90 felt way too steep for the build quality.

Currently using the dbrand Grip. It’s definitely on the bulkier side, but it’ll do for now. I’ve been looking at the Aulumu G09, but putting a thick stand on an already thick case seems like overkill.

Anyone running a solid, low-profile MagSafe kickstand setup on the Fold 8?

My New Z Fold 8 Ultra Is Literally Shocking Me, Who Else Has Ran Into This Problem?

I bought a new Samsung Z Fold 8 Ultra and I am getting this intense prickling, and almost electrocuting feeling holding the phone. Even after putting the phone down the feeling still stays. I have owned quiet a few smart phones and this has never happened to me. Maybe a weird feeling if my phone is on the charger and I've been holding it for a long time but this is crazy.

I had 2 co-workers hold the phone too and they felt the same thing as well. It shoots up my forearms and I can feel it in my face a little. This sensation doesn't go away instantly when you stop touching the phone. I tried to use a cheap emf reader to pick up the frequencies and it seemed like the same as my old phone so I don't know what is going on, but this seems and feels very dangerous to be experiencing, especially since the feeling still lingers after I stopped contact.

Who else is experiencing this??

EMF is a real thing, but I don't know if this is even that

Long-term hinge durability in rural areas

Thinking of getting the Fold 8 as my first foldable, coming from an iPhone. I work in a clean environment and can resist taking it out to the beach or on hikes. However, the area where I live can be dusty—think Arizona or New Mexico—and I often sit and work in the backyard. I don’t want to spend $1,900 on a phone that won’t last at least two or three years, which is my expected upgrade cycle. Does anyone have relevant experience with the Fold 7?

My other options are the Pixel Fold 11, although I really prefer the passport form factor. My other option is waiting for the iPhone Ultra (iFold?). I suspect the iPhone will be way too expensive, and I want to switch to Android anyway for a better AI assistant. I can also get a decent deal at the moment.

Any recommendations?

Face ID > Fingerprint

I see quite a few iOS users say they switched to the Fold 8. I am using the Fold 8 as secondary device and beside Apple ecosystem, the biggest drawback so far is the lack of Face ID. I know Fold 8 has one of the better fingerprint scanner out there but a lot of time it doesn’t read my prints when the phone is on a car mount, when i am in bed or when I just want to check notifications on locked screen it can unlocked too quickly. Anyone experiencing similar issue?

After 12 years, I’m back with Samsung!

Out of all the reasons I thought I’d love this phone, I fell in love with it for the most unlikely of reasons. I remember when I was 12, my Samsung was stolen and my mom gave me her old iPhone, I was happy because all of my friends had iPhones, but I asked her if she could buy me a Samsung for all of my music and she turned me down. At 24 I forgot about this until I started listening to music on this phone. The ability to change how my music sounds through my headphones has been mind blowing. This phone made me fall in love with music all over again.😂

Oh and video games have been great on here as well, the original reason I decided to switch from Apple to Samsung was to be able to emulate the ps2. Surprisingly I’ve been emulating the Wii more than anything! This phone is great, I never realized the iPhone was such a basic phone.

Picked up the Z Fold 8 Ultra 512GB today for $400

I've been using my Z Fold 4 for almost 4 years now and it's been a great phone (minus my hatred for Samsung's bloatware), but it's starting to show its age and it's been freezing up occasionally.

Verizon has a current promotion running for upgrading a line to their newest service plan, along with trading in an eligible device and you get a Z Fold 8 256GB for free ($1900 credit over the course of 36 months). I opted for the Ultra with 512GB, which is $2300. So my payments are $11/mo for the next 36 months. Not bad.

Z Fold 8 Wide or Z Fold 8 Ultra?

Well it's just as the title suggests... which one should I get? My main thing, I am getting a little fomo of not getting the bigger battery and the better camera. I feel like if I get the Ultra, I am going to be heavily using it because I constantly jump from my iPhone to my iPad so getting both on a single device means double the usage I feel like. So I feel like I need the bigger battery. I also like to record things a lot on my trips so a better camera would be good. Thing is, I picked up a ZFold8 Wide on Verizon the other day and the form factor just felt so good, it really felt comfortable to grab it in my hand. That form factor alone is going to make me want to use the device. Another thing I kinda saw, yes the aspect ratio of the Wide is better for media consumption (which I do a lot of) but the ultra unfolded in landscape mode was kinda similar to the Wide unfolded in portrait mode, what do you guys think about that? I mean the wide was still better but by a tiny margin, the black bars were similar in size at that point. Idk, plz help.

1350€ is a good price for the Fold 8 ?

So i have the chance to buy a "new" Fold 8 (12/256), from a person who used it for a few hours but decided that prefer a slab phone, it has everything, box, cable, the plastic cover the screens and it is in perfect condition.

My question is, if i wait until black friday, could i get a better deal than this? i want to get this phone but i want to pay the less amount possible for it, is not a need, is more of a tech itchy thing to get a new toy...

Opinions please. thank you!

For those of you using a case with a built in screen protector, where the glass is attached to the case and sits on top of the screen, how well does it work? Does the touchscreen still respond normally?

Battery life is terrible.

I have Zfold 7. Got the phone in February or so.. So it's not even 1 year old yet. Always kept max battery protection and set it to 80%.

The last 2 days going to work i am only getting 1 hour 30 mins sot. Yesterday battery was at 30% today 40% cause I made max charge 90 today. Im suppose to get 4 hours sot not 1 lmao. Not sure what to do. Apps show less then 5 mins use except tiktok which was 20 mins use.

Got the Galaxy Fold 8 1TB (Graphite)

Yesterday I finally received my order for the Galaxy Fold 8 1 Tb (Graphite).

I have upgrade from the Galaxy Fold 7 1Tb.

I must say that the change is really positive so far. The phone is so much easily to hold and typing is really so much easier on the cover screen.

The Galaxy Fold 8 is also a lot lighter and easier to use one handed (epecially when checking for notifications.

The wide form factor from Samsung is a big refreshing change from all the Fold phones release in the last 5 years. Fold 7 was a big improved from Fold 3 to Fold 6 but the wide Fold 8 is really something else. I strongly believe that Apple will be able to push the market for foldable phones and will make the wide form factor the new standard for foldable phones.

The main screen is just amazing for watching videos on Youtube, Netflix, Prime Video, etc.

The only sad thing is that Samsung doesn't really get much support from 3rd party accessories. I mean the choices for A grade screen protectors and cases are very limited compared to Apple's products. Since I got the phone yesterday on the official release day, there were just a handful of accessories to buy on the first day.

I managed to get these for my Fold 8 1TB.

  1. Corning Glass high quality glass screen protector with Oleophobic Coating 9H hardness from Daremac

  2. Saphire Glass lens protector with Oleophobic Coating with super protection from Daremac

  3. Matte thin screen preotector for the internal main screen (no finger prints) and anti glare which is great for gaming

  4. Matte Skin protection for the hinge

  5. Black Aramid Fiber Slim case from AliExpress with front cover and hinge protection and magesafe

I am still re-installing all the apps and setting up my e-mail accounts, etc.

I transferring all the files and data from my Fold 7 and from my 1TB storage, I have already used up about 430gb. I am sure I will be fine with the remaining storage.

I am hoping that extra 4TB ram will come in handy like it did for me with the Galaxy Fold 7. I have different home screen setup on the cover screen and the main screen with loads of apps refreshing in the background and also many kwgt widgets running and chaninge colors based on my wallpaper which changes every 30 mins in Smart Launcher. I have also noticed with Fold 7 that generating AI videos was smoother with 16GB ram. My friend compared it with his 12GB ram Fold 7. The extra ram is really helpful. Just wondering why Samsung doesn't make it a standard for these expensive phones.

Anyway, I am really enjoying the phone and will be testing the phone more and will post more feedback soon.

For you can check out some pictures which I took yesterday of my Fold 8 and case.
