Am I doing it right

Just today I cut the fabric out from beneath abcs buried the vine in 4-5 places both center and side vine nodes. I fertilized twice with fox farm grow big but it has been a month or so. Have just been letting it do its thing. Gearhardt 1458 (or something like that) seed. Upstate NY. It’s just the first one in the pic

South Carolina Giant pumpkin

Sorry for not responding sooner. This is my current plant I got a late start because I had to replant after vine boarers got in the first one. Then I planted the new plant backwards and had to do the u turn. Do I have any type of realistic chance to be able to get the pumpkin to the 250 category. Vines currently growing about 3-6 inches a day with secondary’s around 2 inches a day. I’ve been fertilizing with 8-10-8 1tbs once a week.

Help diagnose dying or withering vines

These are Big Max giant pumpkins. I planted them late (June 1). I have 4 plants. 2 have pumpkins growing and two look like this. One vine, not long yet, and leaves near the base are dying off. This vine has started a pumpkin twice and thought it was set but they shriveled.

I see no evidence of squash vine borers. I spray BT every week and injected BT early on when the trunks got thick.

I’m wondering if I’m not watering enough? I wanted twice a day (sunrise and sunset). Should I bump that up? Can these be over watered?

I’ve got a few jack-o’-lantern plants also and they’re doing pretty well, though I’m noticing thinning of the leaves around the trunk but the leaves on the vines are nice and green and the vines are long. No pumpkins on those yet.

Appreciate any advice.

The Giant Pumpkin and Little Deer Nursery 🐣

My shepherd kept wandering over to the fence line directly behind the stump of my ribbon (now normal) vine. I don’t need him playing in the dirt there and ruining the roots. I had to command him four separate times to get away. Each time he’d comply and then wander right back over. Like WTF, man. Now I know why…

I’m relieved and surprised he knew to be on his best behavior and to not leave the patch to investigate. He’s over there all the time, especially for his morning 💩.

Last images are of the pumpkin I pollinated yesterday morning on said ribbon vine. I decided a while back to name my pumpkins after creatures that have visited the patch. So far it’s been “Orb Weaver” and “Swallowtail”. I’m think “Whitetail” for this one 🤍

Saving pollen

Has anyone had any luck saving pollen?

My area doesn’t get many bees, so I have to hand-pollinate. We’re supposed to get rain all week, and I can see a female flower getting ready to open. I’m trying to figure out the best way to save some pollen so I don’t miss this opportunity.

Any tips or tricks would be greatly appreciated!

Pesticides and fungicides what are y’all using?

I have my pumpkins isolated far from any consumable plants. That being said. I’m tempted to treat my pumpkin patch with harsh products such as Eagle20 and Avid as a preventative. What is everyone’s IPM??
