A business being removed repeatedly

There is a local business that I've added to Google Maps 3 times in the past year. It's a legitimate business with a website, etc. Each time it has been accepted but it keeps disappearing. Is there any way to find out why?

Google Street View

I have been looking for an open source app to upload photos to Google Street View, preferably one which works on Windows but haven't been able to find anything. Would anyone know of such an app?

Hi. So I opened a new business. And I put it on Google maps. But when I try to upload a photo on Instagram or Facebook and try to check in it doesn't sow me my business on check in list. How can I add my business location for check in?

I hate Google Maps

Trying to add the Museum that I work at on Google Maps because people keep (reasonably) getting lost trying to get there. We aren't a for-profit or a business, so while we debated joining as a business (so that we can reply to reviews and manage the page), we eventually decided against it after we tried and they asked for proof of business verification stuff that would have involved calling the University building that we are located in.

So I go ahead to add us as a missing place, and the request seems to go in fine. I add the location pin, name, category, and a handful of good pictures that showcase the place existing with the big sign on the wall, the opening hours, the website, the screenshot of the opening hours on the website. Until very quickly, it says we're not accepted with (6) issues. Okay, which of the 7 submitted details weren't accepted? No clue, it just says (6). And there's a disclaimer that says it might be incorrectly declined because it's not like they know what they're doing, but then there's not even a place to refute the claim? So what, you just sit there and wonder why it's been declined? Can they not at the very least have a page that says "This is the part that we are confused about" or something?

There's literally another museum on campus a few minutes away that is fine and dandy showing up on the map because they were added some years ago before they made it difficult to add locations.

I'm wondering if I should try adding it again on my personal account instead of the museum's email, because that way I have some usage history on this account and I'm 25 points away from Level 3 which is better than nothing. But I'm concerned about it getting flagged as spam if I resubmit a request with similar (if not identical data). I'd record a walk-around video, but unfortunately, my phone's out of commission right now and I'd be unable to do it.

I've seen posts with people who have had similar issues. Does anything actually work, or are we just locked from adding new information to Google Maps forever until somebody figures this out?

I made a Google Maps Help Community post here, but it's gotten no replies so far.

Timeline refugees - a bit late but I made a timeline replacement app

It can work without sending anything to my server by backing up to your iCloud

You can import your timeline data from Google Maps Timeline to bring back your entire history

(completely optional) share your timeline with a link (web access!)

Demos

Screenshot of one day's timeline view: https://imgur.com/a/Q0em5yi

My 10 years of NYC google maps timeline data: https://imgur.com/a/e8p9aXt

Hope this is useful for y'all - I'm a heavy timeline user so I made this with my use-case in mind. Let me know if there are missing features - I'm working on this full time so I can usually get around to improvements pretty fast!

Google Maps reviews in Germany are utterly pointless

🗺️ While visiting Pride Berlin, I learned how utterly pointless Google Maps Reviews in Germany are.

⭐ Any place can simply report negative reviews for defamation or claim the person was never there and have it removed.

Users can then appeal & risk a lawsuit.

When a review is removed the removed count on Google Maps goes up (🖼️ 1)

However that count is reset after 365 days and also only goes to 250! (🖼️ 2)

Therefore companies can simply mass report negative reviews to improve their rating.

https://support.google.com/contributionpolicy/answer/16997273

https://preview.redd.it/whmztdjipyjh1.jpg?width=367&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3934e360ae42dcda501cdcc6a90328f1d87a238a

So many vulnerable people are relying on Google Maps reviews & ratings to tell them where it is save to go.

Some places have only 1000-2000 reviews but >250 reviews removed in the past 365 days!

Like how bad must the situation there be?!

Absolute shame.

Ruin my life why don’t you

Google Maps pinged me at a location where I was not actually present. I was at Target, but Google Maps showed my location at a house on a nearby street. Coincidentally, the person who lives at that address is someone I don’t know, but they happen to follow a run club that I used to go to.

My boyfriend is now convinced that I was with this person during that time, but I genuinely have no idea who this person is, and I have never met them in my life. He doesn’t believe me, and it’s starting to create a serious wedge between us.

We live together, but I own the house. What makes the situation even worse is that I gave him access to my Ring camera about a week after this happened because I wanted him to feel more comfortable and reassured. My Ring camera is set up to automatically delete footage after three days, that’s just how it was set up, so the footage from the day in question was already gone. Now he thinks I intentionally deleted the footage to hide something. I did not. That’s just how it was set up.

I honestly don’t know what else I can do or say to make him believe me. I know 100% that I was not at this person’s house. I was at Target, and Google Maps simply showed an incorrect location. It’s incredibly frustrating and hurtful to be accused of something I didn’t do, especially when I have no connection whatsoever to this person. I want him to trust me, but I don’t know how to prove something that simply didn’t happen.

And it’s not lost on me how bad this looks. I can completely understand why, from his perspective, it looks really bad. It’s just not the case. I don’t know what to do.

My bum is unintentionally out on Google Maps, how long will they take to blur?

Not going to post the location here but I was doing some motorcycle maintenance when I got snapped. It's a little bit more than a builders bum, joggers I were wearing at the time didn't have a good zip string and I was crouched in the wheel section not a good look basically especially being overweight and one partial eclipse is enough for this month.

I used the reporting tool and stated nudity but nothing has been done yet.

Just wondering how long do these processes take?

google maps no longer shows shop opening times unless you create an account.

When I select a business in the high street, It has the address, website &
Opening times: 🕙 Open - Closes 3pm v

Usually when you click the opening times it shows the weekly times ~ but now it asks you to create an account or login.
Seems to have happened in the last couple of days.
(this is on computer, mobile browser still lets you see the times. I havent tried on multiple browsers just Firefox so far)

All timeline data completely disappeared

I've had timeline on ever since they changed it to on-device storage, and I changed the deletion policy to never. When I checked yesterday (and today), it just says "no visits for this day". I checked my history. Everything is gone. When I tried to use Google Takeout to get my data, I only get an 18MB JSON file, which is not right, that's very small given my history.

Is this a bug? Is there a way to recover my data? I'm already in the process of moving to Dawarich+OwnTracks so that this doesn't happen again, but I do want my entire 10+ years of data back.

Filters are meaningless

Stories in Enshittification.

I'm trying to find a place to grab a bite with a friend after work tomorrow. I go to Google maps. I choose the area, select restaurants, select "has beer". A number of results come up, one of which is surprisingly a Taco Bell. I didn't know they served beer. That's weird. It's ok, that's a 3 star establishment. I set my filters to 4 stars and above.

It's still there.

Ok, maybe set my cuisine. I set it to French, just for funsies

It's still there

I set the price to $80-$100, I'm no longer looking for a restaurant for me and my buddy

It's still there.

I set "accepts reservations"

It's still. Bloody. There.

See, I know what's happening. Taco Bell is probably paying Google a lot of money to make sure their restaurants are showing up on maps. I get it, capitalism amirite? Here's the problem, though. How the hell am I supposed to trust the results I'm getting? When I'm requesting an $80-$100 meal at a 4 star rated French restaurant that takes reservations and I'm getting a 3.1 star Taco Bell, what are we even doing anymore?

This is why we can't have nice things.

Eircode/Address not on Google

Anyone has any idea how to get property location updated on google? Neither the eircode nor the house/street is visible on google maps street view.
It’s a newly built house. It shows empty roads on google maps, where there are houses right now. Is there any way I could request Google maps to update the information of the location? Thanks in advance!

How can we safely hide the exact address of a factory in Google Business Profile due to security risks?

Hello, I am helping a client with a Google Business Profile for an active industrial / manufacturing business in Ukraine.
The profile is active, the business continues to operate, and we do not want to mark it as temporarily closed or remove the profile from Google. The issue is different: due to the current security situation in Ukraine and attacks on warehouses, factories and infrastructure, displaying the exact address of the facility on Google Search and Google Maps may create a real safety risk for the business, employees and nearby residents.
We have already contacted Google Business Profile Support and described the situation as a security concern. In our request, we explained that we do not want to mislead users, use an incorrect address, or close the profile. We are trying to understand whether there is a correct and policy-compliant way to hide only the exact street address.
We understand that manually removing the address from the profile may be interpreted by Google as changing the business type, may trigger re-verification, or may create a policy issue. That is why we want to get guidance before making any changes.
My question is: is there a correct and policy-compliant way to hide the exact street address while keeping the profile active and visible, for example by showing only the city, region, or a general area instead of the exact factory address?
Important: we are not trying to use a fake location or bypass Google’s rules. This request is related only to safety and security.
I would be grateful for advice from Google Business Profile Product Experts, community moderators, or anyone who has dealt with a similar situation. I can provide the case ID privately if needed.

Issue retrieving backup timeline from phone with broken screen!

Hello! My phone screen broke and I just bought a new phone since it was going to be too expensive to be worth fixing. I'm trying to import my Google maps timeline, but it keeps wanting to send a notification to the old phone and doesn't give me another option for how to access the data.

Is there any way to get this data on my new phone??

Fixing routing errors

Hello. New to this reddit...and just found out about OSM...AMAZING! But I have the same problem with their routing as I do with Google Maps. We live in a house positioned on a flag lot. We do not share the driveway. Physically, our house is closer to a small dirt road behind the house than the street where our driveway opens up. Routing always sends people to the dirt road behind the house rather than to our driveway. Problem is...the dirt road is separated from our property by a 5 meter wide "canal" and it is impossible to access our house across. We live in the Netherlands.

Any ideas on how to fix this?

Google Maps Listing Permanently closed for no reason

Why could this happen? My suggested edit for reopening was also not approved. It’s a listing of a bazaar I made in 2016 ( currently in that very bazaar ) and surprisingly found out it’s marked as permanently closed.

A question I'm really asking myself

I’ve been working at a supermarket for four years now, and we’re known for our exceptional customer service. However, despite our efforts such as placing a QR code near the registers to encourage Google reviews and bagging items for our customers we haven’t received a single unsolicited review, not even from our regular customers. I wonder if local businesses generally have a hard time getting reviews. On the other hand, big-box stores seem to have three times as many reviews as our small neighborhood grocery store. You come see us every day, but you can’t find the time to help us out by leaving a review? It’s not like it takes that long, right? What do you think?

Everything requires login now?

Maybe this was discussed extensively already, but is Maps really requiring login for everything now?

Even for something as simple as viewing business hours, I now get prompted with:

Sign-in to get the best of Google Maps

Reviews & photos: Read and search through every review and photo.
Saved places. Keep track of your favorites with lists that you can share.
Personalized travel. Get instant travel times to your frequent places, like home and work.

Note that business hours isn't listed as part of the "best of Google Maps."

Reviews are the same, can't simply view those anymore either.

It just gets worse every day (and certainly nothing like the Google of old).
