Biological miracles

Only a biological miracle of vast proportions will help some people understand that the Arkham games and Gotham Knights game are not the same entity. Even more than this, they can both exist and be good on their own. Some people will like them, others won't.

What do you say folks, it can happen? 😄😄 it is a miracle after all, hope i am not asking much!

Okay so, I have seen this game getting hated again

Look I am all for Arkham, but I am not that deep into it, when the game first came out and I saw how hated it was I, rather foolishly, joined the hate train.

That is until 2 years ago when I decided to get it and play it out of spite of the new SSKTJL game that was a bigger flop.

And I honestly found the game enjoyable, sure it's not Arkham, but you can see traces of it, the combat is a whole different hell to master, and I loved learning it every step of the way because I am someone who is stubborn and loves learning curves, specifically in games.

But all these Arkham fans or whatever just coming in here to hate on a game that has been already hated enough is just stupid.

But then again, I don't only play Arkham, I play a whole selection of games, from Hitman, to this, to Hogwarts Legacy, to Tomb Raider, etc.

And personally in my eyes the only bad games are the ones that pull a SSKTJL or are made in such little time with AI or is just Banana (Yes there is a game like that)

What. A. Shame.

I’m probably the biggest fan of Arkham Origins. I couldn’t believe how amazingly well WB Montreal took the basic formula that rocksteady started and just crafted a crisp visually stunning elegant wonderful penultimate version of their winning formula.

I’ve come to the game’s defense many times when people used to write it off years ago as the worst of the series and I’ve pointed out the nuance and goodness that came out of that design studio.

And I was waiting with baited breath for Gotham Knights to come out. Paying attention to all the news. Watching for progress; reading little news morsels as they would come out.

But… I didn’t go from PS4 to PS5 until just recently and so I had to sit through all of the criticism and disappointment from others to wait and see for myself. And here are two things that just absolutely goddamn baffle me;

* after five hours of playing this Gotham Knights today, I can tell you that the fucking Fun of it has been sucked completely away by the sheer gameplay. Fighting is a pain in the ass. Detective work is a pain in the ass. Traversal via grappling and riding the bike is a pain in the ass.

And I thought I’d be able to just force myself to conform and get through it, but… If this has been restated ad useam, I apologize but—-

— why in the actual fuck could they have not just taken the winning formula of play style from the Arkham games! I get that they had to do something different, but… Adding unnecessary jank almost for its own sake?

We’ve got an amazing story, an absolutely beautiful city, some wonderful character work, extraordinary art direction, spectacular visuals at every turn, a fresh reinvention of old characters. And the whole thing is dragged down by the playability.

There is so many things going right with this game.

And yet … I personally don’t even wanna play it ever again.

It took me the entire day just to figure out how to get Batgirl’s glide mechanic going; And then they couldn’t have even kept the same controller layout for the mechanic. They made it a pain in the ass.

I’m not trying to be negative for something that so many people obviously put so much time and effort into. It’s just that it’s so close to an excellent game and it’s baffling to me that it’s not.

The other thing that may well have possibly been talked to death about that I’m sorry that I’m bringing up if it’s late or if it’s been belabored… But I’m gonna go ahead and say it anyway;

Why the goddamn fuck could they not have figured out a way to take advantage of such an amazing Batman design and let you goddamn play as actual Batman?

There’s so many ways it could’ve worked.

A retro story like they just did where you get to play as Alex Murphy in RoboCop rogue city, or…… just throw good writing to the wind and say to hell with it and put him through the Lazarus pit again or make him a clone or android or something.

You’ve got this amazing character in mechanic design and the suit looks amazing and…

…. I was honestly fully convinced we would see it happen in the forthcoming DLC (long ago) I would’ve paid good money for it. I didn’t mind the potential for being fleece with cosplay upgrades.

So they chose not to make it an Arkham game. Fine.

It doesn’t have to be an Arkham game. But to throw away everything you’ve worked for by turning the game mechanics into a pain in the ass that’ll be relegated forever to the bargain bin and then not featuring the number one best character that you’ve taken all this time and into designing……

Maybe one day. One day. One day in the fire future…

With better technology than we have now and some dedicated fans there could be a content restoration mod or something that’ll bring this thing back to life. Kind of like Knights of the old Republic 2: the Sith Lords

Roaring down this beautiful Gotham city in a motorcycle that actually drives similarly to the Arkham Knight Batmobile, or gliding and traversing through the city with the same speed and grace of Arkham Knight, and actually playing as Batman maybe in a… prequel.

One can dream.

Hot Take but if both Red Hood and Batgirl are having trouble with their dates / romance, what if they get together? Personally I think they have one of the best chemistries in the DC Comics Gotham Knights game (Art by @isaiahsimmons.art)

What if Jason & Dick swapped to their old canon appearances?

Comic readers, do you remember how insanely buff Dick Grayson used to be in the 80s and 90s? What if he stayed that way and we also had Ginger Jason from 2009?

Weirdly Gotham Knights Jason looks most like the version we see in Hush - which keeps flipflopping in canon as to whether it was Jason or Clayface

DC Comics Cassandra Cain if she was in the Gotham Knights game. Would you have wanted Cass added? (Art by Toby Fan)

You don't like his face? Okay more face for me then! by wendydoodles

Honestly Jason appearance in this game has grown on me massively, I've always been annoyed by comics where he looks identical to every other black haired character, and this design really works well for his character arc.

Happy 4th to r/GothamKnights! What do you think DC Comics Red Hood is preparing for the rest of the Knights? (Art by @busungM)

Update or Sequel

I have beaten this game maybe 7 times, not just solo but for and with friends. I truly wish they would make new content for it or make a Sequel that introduces new villains with us gaining new powers and gadgets. It's a fantastic game and it's a shame it never really went anywhere.

Do you change what Knight you're playing as for the GCPD mission?

In case anyone doesn't know, once you are in New Game + you can switch character you're playing in the tutorial by using heroic assault to change.
It means in the end credits you can have a different Knight show up for this part of the game, which isn't a feature in the first playthough.

Do you like to change character?

Wishing this game would’ve gotten more support than what it did could’ve had such an amazing Batman story for the rest of our beloved knights of Gotham

This image of Robin Tim Drake in the DC Comics Gotham Knight game triggered my PTSD. Anyone else agree?
