I picked this up recently (Slappy)

First time posting here, (apologize if I messed something up! plus the not great lighting, cropping and whatnot...) But I recently picked up this first pressing of Slappy, and I thought you all might enjoy it.

A hail Mary trying to reach the band

I've had an idea for a piece of custom merchandise to do, but I'm looking for some way to reach Billie or the managers or whoever directly.

My idea is to do a custom metal sign justblike it would be an actual road sign on a city street that says "Broken Dreams Blvd"

But I only want to do this if I have permission from the band.

So throwing myself into the mosh, I have no idea if this will reach anyone at WB, or the band themselves but I want to hear from you guys saying yes I can do this.

Hand painted jacket commission for friend (battle jacket but also just a nerd jacket)

Idk if this counts as a battle jacket anymore but I had a lot of fun making this and jackets are meant to express what you love!

Favorite Green Day Albums

Disclaimer

i just want to preface this post by saying that i am in no way trying to state an objective truth. i believe that music should be entirely subjective and that you should enjoy or hate whatever you want without being influenced by someone else's opinion.

i also want to preface this with the fact that green day is my favorite band and that this list is entirely personal. with that being said... feel free to disagree and discuss!

Favorite Albums

14. Father Of All... (2020) - Least Favorite 💔

this one should be pretty obvious to anyone who listens to green day, and that isn't even me trying to say that this album is bad by any means, it's simply one that i never care to revisit. i actually think that this album has a pretty cool sound and vibe to it, as well as good production. it's just not the green day that i know and love, and i'm sure that many fans probably feel the same way as i do. i feel like this album would have been more well received had it just simply not been an album by green day, because it honestly doesn't sound like them at all.

Favorite Track: Fire, Ready, Aim

13. ¡DOS! (2012) 🟧

next album on the list is in the same camp as the previous one; however, this project has a lot more going for it in that it actually sounds like green day. with that being said though, there isn't much on this thing that i particularly love either. this album is just kind of all over the place and doesn't have a clear sonic direction. once again, that isn't me saying it's bad by any means, it's just not a record that i ever care to revisit.

Favorite Track: F%@# Time

12. ¡TRÉ! (2012) 🟦

i feel that this album has more going for it than its predecessor. it's similar to the first project in the trilogy in that it contains more of a sonic direction as far as the music goes. it's not one i revisit too often, but it has some jamming tracks on it.

Favorite Track: X-Kid

11. Revolution Radio (2016) 📻

this is a pretty solid album that has a lot of energy which the band captured really well on it. i appreciate the band's focus on this record after coming off of their previous trilogy run that was kind of all over the place, but still fun. not much more to say about this record except for that it's a great return to form project. this album has some great power ballads and emotional tracks. nothing bad about this album whatsoever.

Favorite Track: Revolution Radio (Title Track)

10. ¡UNO! (2012) 🟩

this is definitely my favorite album in the trilogy and that's probably the case for most fans. this album is pretty iconic honestly. i remember always seeing the album artwork and hearing songs from it when i was younger. it's a fun album and it has a lot going for it. it's got those catchy green day hooks and melodies i know and love and some good lyrics here and there. it's a nice break from the super focused narrative aspect that their previous two records featured. it's a nice back to basics album and is definitely worth listening to.

Favorite Track: Nuclear Family, Carpe Diem, Oh Love

9. Saviors (2024) 🤯

this album was honestly a surprise for me. i wasn't sure if the band still had it in them when they announced this record, but i was proven soundly wrong. saviors is an amazing comeback project following their previous release that completely alienated their fanbase. it's a super punchy pop rock record that has a lot of energy and some great tunes. this album is very anthemic while also carrying a straightforward approach to the instrumentals and songwriting. a very good record overall for the forty year old legends.

Favorite Tracks: Bobby Sox, Dilemma, Goodnight Adeline, Corvette Summer

8. 39/Smooth (1990) 👶

their studio debut is nothing short of a time capsule. everything from the artwork to the way this thing was produced. you have to listen to this project if you can ever call yourself a green day fan. it showcases the young band members before they knew their sound. this project captures that live performance sound for a small crowd perfectly. this project has great lyrics, songwriting, and chord progressions that showcases an early billie joe armstrong already proving himself as a seasoned pop songwriter. spanning only ten tracks, this album is absolutely worth listening to if you haven't given it a try yet.

Favorite Track: Going To Pasalacqua

7. Kerplunk (1991) 🔫

this is honestly such a good record that deserves to be higher on this list, but green day simply has too many good albums that i am unfortunately forced to put it here. this project has that same classic ramones style production as their previous record from their independent label, but boasts even better songwriting than the first. you can tell that this is when the band really started to find their sound. this is also their first ever release to feature veteran drummer tré cool which as we all know would be with them for the long haul from this point on. so many good songs and vibes on this album. you can also hear a rougher version of "welcome to paradise" on here before the band would rerecord it for their major label debut. go listen to this thing if you haven't yet. great record.

Favorite Tracks: 2000 Light Years Away, One For The Razorbacks, Christie Road, One Of My Lies, No One Knows

6. Warning (2000) ⚠️

if you're listening to this thing for the first time it can be a little confusing, but this album was always playing when i was a kid so i fortunately grew up with it in the right way. warning is definitely different from the rest of their discography; however, there is nothing bad about this album whatsoever, and it was very under appreciated upon release and still is to this day. warning boasts some of the catchiest songwriting billie joe armstrong has shown yet. the acoustic stripped back nature of this project allows his vocals and lyrics to take center stage, and it pays off in a wonderful way. this album is pure ear candy and something absolutely worth listening to. i rediscovered this album once i could afford to pay for spotify and it's been in my rotation ever since. such a great record.

Favorite Tracks: Fashion Victim, Castaway, Church On Sunday, Hold On

5. 21st Century Breakdown (2009) 🧱

this album has grown on me in a pretty significant way. i never really gave this album a chance until a friend of mine played the title track in his car and i thought it reminded me of "jesus of suburbia" off american idiot instantly. after that, i gave this album a chance and i was truly blown away by it. the production is amazing. the album reminds me a lot of nimrod in that it feels very explosive all throughout. i love albums that switch up the pace and flow of things to give you a nice break from the high energy tracks to more slow and somber tracks only then to jump right back into the chaotic instrumentals. i'm more of a beats and vibes listener when it comes to music; therefore, i'm not always paying super close attention to what the artist is saying. with that being said, i understand that a lot of fans feel this album is weaker than american idiot due to the fact that the narrative makes less sense or is less cohesive; however, since that doesn't really apply to me, as far as the music goes... this album is an absolute banger joyride of a project.

Favorite Tracks: ¡Viva La Gloria!, The Static Age, Murder City, Horseshoes & Hand Grenades, American Eulogy, Last Of The American Girls

4. American Idiot (2004) 💣

if i could choose one word to describe this album, i would choose the word "iconic", and i'm sure you all will agree. when you throw this album on and you hear the opening riff from the title track "american idiot", it just takes you and me back to that time when we first heard it. this album was a massive victory lap for the band as they were coming off of the lowest commercial slump in history (warning), and with this album they officially beat the old and washed allegations. they took a big risk on this album by changing their sound once again after their upcoming return to form project (cigarettes and valentines) was stolen from their recording studio, and that risk paid off in the literal best way possible. this album is huge, anthemic, loud, and excelled in its attempt to garner a whole new generation of fans (including myself). this album and its narrative is such a pleasure to sit back and listen to time and time again. this will always be the definitive green day album for fans all over the world because of its commercial and cultural impact. i remember hearing the singles from this album constantly, whether it was from watching the music videos on TV, or listening to the songs on the radio in my parents car, i was a fan from the second i heard "american idiot" or "boulevard of broken dreams". even more somber tracks like "wake me up when september ends" will forever be massive green day anthems. this is the green day album you play for someone who has never heard of them before. such a good album.

Favorite Tracks: Jesus Of Suburbia, Holiday, Boulevard Of Broken Dreams, Give Me Novacaine, She's A Rebel, Letterbomb, Whatsername

3. Dookie (1994) 💩

the top three are pretty self explanatory. i know i may have lost a lot you with my exclusion of the last one; however, i've always been more of a fan of green day's straightforward punk sound. and with that, we have dookie. this record is awesome from front to back. from the snotty punk angst in billie joe armstrong's vocals to the palm muted chugs of his "blue" fernandes stratocaster, there is nothing i don't love about this record. this album is once again iconic as hell and is such a treat to listen to time and time again. during a time (before i was born) when grunge was dominating the airwaves, dookie offered a fresh, brighter, and more poppy alternative to rock music. it's cool thinking how this trio from a small part of the globe rose to international superstars from one record. they really had what it took and their music proves why this record was so popular. play this record on a sunny day and take a walk. hell, have a green day when listening to this thing while you're at it. especially for mike dirnt's LSD infused bass lines on "longview".

Favorite Tracks: Burnout, Having A Blast, Chump, Pulling Teeth, Basket Case, When I Come Around, Sassafras Roots, She

2. Insomniac (1995) 🤬

this album features what i love most about this band. i really feel like they shine on tracks like these. i honestly wish we got more records like this one, because despite this record kind of sounding the same throughout, their energy truly carries. i know at this point the band was tired of the three chord punk formula, but that to me is what makes this record so much fun to listen to. i love the super abrasive sound of the guitars as well as billie's raspy vocals. the band wanted to make a record to push back on all of the hate that they were getting from their previous fans who were accusing them of being sellouts by signing with a major record label on their previous album. and they pushed back in a great way. this album captures that anger perfectly, especially with tré cool's aggressive drumming which apparently led to his hands bleeding from the drumsticks during recording sessions. this record from front to back reminds me a lot of the "incesticide" compilation nirvana put out three years prior. it has raw punk energy and angst in the vocals as well as some dark lyrics that really make you question how the band came up with them. just pure and raw punk energy on this thing. nothing more i can say. it's a fantastic record.

Favorite Tracks: Brat, Geek Stink Breath, Brain Stew, Walking Contradiction, Stuart & The Ave.

1. Nimrod (1997) - Most Favorite ❤️‍🔥

this may come off as a surprise to a lot of you, and it honestly took me a long time to call this album my favorite; however, this album is packed with some of the most mature songwriting the band has ever come up with. this album perfectly blends their raw punk energy with incredibly infectious pop hooks and melodies that create some of the most ear candy tunes you will ever listen to if you are a fan of green day. i thought for a long time that their previous record insomniac was my favorite, but the more i listened to this thing the more i realized what a hidden gem it was. maybe the fact that it's my favorite comes from the fact that none of my favorite songs on this thing really got the significant amount of airplay that songs from their previous records did. for fans of artists like me who love the deep cuts, this album is definitely for you. there are reasons why previous records on this list are more popular and critically acclaimed; however, this album holds up better in my opinion. i can listen to this thing from front to back any day. this album has great transitions and some very fun musical diversity. you pretty much get everything you love about green day on this album. i love the way billie sings on this thing. his voice cracks mixed with the punk accent and the pop melodies are so ear wormy. you truly will not find a bad song on this record and that is why it has become my all time favorite.

Favorite Tracks: Redundant, Scattered, Worry Rock, Walking Alone, Take Back, All The Time, Reject, Prosthetic Head, Jinx, Haushinka

Other Tracks & Projects Worth Mentioning: Do Da Da (Shenanigans - Compilation), Paper Lanterns (Slappy - EP), 409 In Your Coffeemaker (Slappy - EP), Poprocks & Coke (International Superhits! - Compilation), Only Of You (1,000 Hours - EP), J.A.R. (Internation Superhits! - Compilation), Suffocate (Shenanigans - Compilation)

thank you for reading my list if you made it this far! i would love for any of you to discuss your opinions with me or with each other!

also i just want to say that this post was not created with artificial intelligence (AI). after writing this i thought it could come off that way because off the emojis. just passion and lots of punk bunny coffee made this post possible! I LOVE GREEN DAY

I posted my first full guitar cover and it’s Basket Case

I uploaded my first cover to youtube and wanted to share it here too

If you have a spare minute, I’d love for you to check it out. I’m really looking for any feedback!

I made this cover using the isolate tracks from the rockband game so what you’re hearing is only my guitar

Thanks for listening!

Is 'Do Da Da' the best Green Day b-side?

I've been listening back over all the old b-sides, and 'Do Da Da' is such an underrated gem from the Brain Stew / Jaded single back in 1996.

I love everything about it. The melody, the energy, the lyrics. 'Suffocate' and 'Desensitized' come close, but I reckon Do Da Da is Green Day's best non-album track.

Any other love out there for this short, sharp masterpiece?

My Thoughts on 21st Century Breakdown (unrelated image)

The overall album is a 9.9/10. All the first 17 songs except Viva la Gloria? are 10/10s. My favs were 21st Century Breakdown, Viva la Gloria!, Before the Lobotomy, East Jesus Nowhere, and Peacemaker. We lost the plot after See the Light, and I didn’t really like the last 2 tracks, especially A Quick One While He’s Away. That one was horrible. If the album didn’t include the last 3 tracks and Viva la Gloria?, it would be a 10/10. I still really love the whole album and it’s my favourite album ever.

Saviors concept album fan theory

Btw, this is all just a fun fan theory, not everything is official, Im saying this because SOME PEOPLE hate when people have fun fan theories

The American dream is Killing me & look ma no brains (a character name Bobby gets metaphorically killed by the American dream and turns into a metaphorical zombie of the American system)

Bobby Sox (Bobby finds love and try’s to bring love to his friends)

One eyed basterd (Bobby basically tries to kill his enemies in this still technically zombieish state and probably tries to stop greedy companies if the music video helps with any of this)

Dilemma (Bobby party’s with the love intrest “Suzie Adeline” and gets drunk and bad shit happens)

1981 (Suzie’s side of dilemma not caring about the problems and just partying)

Goodnight Adeline & Coma city (Bobby wakes up in hangover and leaves the party) (basically more of what goodnight Adeline was)

Corvette summer (Bobby gets rid of the hangover and drives a stolen car)

Suzie chapstick (Suzie breaks up with Bobby)

Strange days are here to stay (he accepts the strange days upon him after the breakup)

Living in the 20’s (he was not as prepared as he thought he was)

Father to a son (wmuwse of the album in every way possible but if it did fit I guess it could be modern Bobby metaphorically talking to pre American dream Bobby)

Saviors (he tries to find a way to find happiness in himself calling any person he can find)

Fancy sauce (Bobby fails to find it and dies)

The deluxe tracks would take place in multiple parts in between

smash it like belushi (Bobby tries to find something after stay young I think idk how this one would work)

Stay young (dealing with the breakup after suzie chapstick)

Fuck off (Bobby tells Suzie to leave after the breakup but before stay young)

Ballyhoo (probably before fancy but after saviors)

Underdog (in between Bobby Sox and one eyed basterd)

Tre Cool Handwritten Letter

Thought I would share this handwritten letter from Tre Cool to my husband Paul in 1994 after he wrote to the Green Day fan club. Sorry it's marked up, but some have tried to copy it. Thx for reading!
