Tool to fix Xiaomi G Pro 27i

I was one of the unlucky users who bought a flaky Xiaomi G Pro 27i with red tint and bad HDR EOTF. After a lot of frustration trying fixes online, finding guides that recommended tools that no longer work with Windows 11 on the latest NVIDIA drivers, I decided to create my own open-source tool to fix this monitor, called Color LUT Tweaks.

You can download it here: Release v0.2.0 · HugoSart/color-lut-tweaks

What the tool does:

  • Allow applying LUT mapping to SDR and HDR modes separately.
  • Allow doing color corrections separately in SDR and HDR (brightness, contrast, etc).

Because I created this to fix my Xiaomi monitor, this also includes a preset for this monitor. The preset does:

  • Improve HDR EOTF curve; Image should look brighter on midtones.
  • Map SDR to sRGB, so you can use the monitor in "Native" mode, eliminating the red-tint issue.

How to use it:

  • On the monitor overlay settings, choose the "Native" Color Space; the tool will automatically convert to sRGB on SDR via software.
  • Download and execute the tool
  • Click on the system tray icon and select the Xiaomi preset under "Presets"; choose the one that you think is better

For the calibration, I used this article as a reference: https://chimolog.co/xiaomi-g-pro-27i/

I hope this saves you time and headaches. I spent countless hours trying to adjust this monitor. I hope Xiaomi learned from its mistakes.

LG C5 Windows 11 Dolby Vision seems to run on most games?

I thought DV was only compatible with a small handful of games, but like 3/4ths of the games I've launched use DV as it's HDR. I thought it was supposed to switch back to standard HDR mode when the game isn't compatible, but most games seem to just run in DV. I

What exactly is happening here?

Dynamic Range rising: Nikon firmware update vs. Sony new DGO ?

Are Nikon firmware updates sufficient to accommodate the dynamic range of Sony's new DGO?

Now that Sony has implemented Dual Gain Output on the recent Alpha 7V camera (https://www.reddit.com/r/SonyAlpha/comments/1piova1/a7v\_photonstophoto\_dr\_data\_is\_released/) and is preparing to do so on the next version of the Alpha 7R, achieving a significant increase in dynamic range, it would be appropriate for other manufacturers to respond with updates to their cameras.

The new Sony uses DGO automatically only when shooting at low ISOs and with the mechanical shutter and relatively slow frame rates, allowing it to take two sensor readings during the shot and then combine the two readings for DGO into a single RAW file.

The slow frame rate must allow for two readings and the result to be combined into a single RAW file.

Shooting with the mechanical shutter, which remains closed until the next shot, must allow data to be collected from the sensor (pixels excited by light) twice before the sensor is reset and can once again receive light and new information.

The increase in dynamic range resulting from DGO is particularly interesting for landscapes, object photography, and perhaps portraits: that is, where the low ISO sensitivity that allows it can be utilized.

The sensor readout time of the new Sony (about 15 ms) is much slower than that of the Nikon Z9 and Z8 (less than 4 ms) and even slower than the Z6 III (about 10 ms), but it seems that Sony takes two readings in this time, while Nikon takes only one.

The two readings of the Sony DGO can be compared to two shots taken in very rapid succession; in fact, the sensor will be sensitized for the duration imposed by the mechanical shutter, and the two readings are made on this data before the shutter can open again and reset the sensor, allowing it to record new information.

Of course, the new Sony, also because it is the latest arrival, has a faster processor than other cameras (Sony, Nikon, Canon, etc.), and this gives it an advantage, but its sensor readout times are certainly not lightning-fast.

What are the alternatives to Sony's new DGO, which can be used on other cameras?

The "old" HDR function, which uses bracketing with multiple shots, is not suitable because not only would you need a PC to combine them into an editable RAW file, but the sum of the shutter speeds would always be so long that it would only be used with still subjects (not even for landscapes with a bit of wind, water, animals, and moving objects).

A more modern function would be needed that uses the processor to merge data, even from just two very close sensor readings (without using the processor to perform further processing on a long sequence of rapid shots) into a single shot. Ultimately, the sensors are optimized for two different ISO values, and the post-shoot processing times could be similar to those of long-exposure noise reduction.

This question therefore arises for photographers who already own advanced and fast cameras like the Nikon Z 8 and Z 9, but also the Z6 III, primarily for landscape and object shots (and possibly portraits). Is it possible to improve the dynamic range of a shot, achieving exposure times fast enough for these subjects (i.e., without using continuous shooting, which Sony also offers to achieve the same goals)?

If the Nikon Z 8, Z 9, and Z6 III are capable of shooting RAW at 20 fps and 14 bits (and simultaneously saving the twin JPEG and applying the processing), this means that to obtain two consecutive shots, the current times are 100 ms (also necessary to process and compress the corresponding JPEG with the chosen settings).

But if we consider that for the two flagship cameras, the times for two consecutive sensor readings are less than 8ms (less than 1/100") and that there's no need to waste time processing two JPEG files, if the memory buffer size could hold the data from two 14-bit RAW readings, the camera could then take all the time necessary to process the two readings and combine them into a single 14-bit RAW file, and from this also create the corresponding JPEG or HEIF file.

It could be a new single-shot mode "Landscape 2 read Max Dynamic Range", which would only work up to ISO ... (for example, the two base ISO values) and only with shutter speeds slower than ... (1/100" would already be sufficient).

In summary, there are three technical issues that can enable this process:

  1. Memory size – can it hold two 14-bit RAW readings?

  2. Time required to perform two consecutive readings and save them to memory (e.g., 1/100”).

  3. Processing time for the two readings to produce a single 14-bit RAW file and extract a JPEG or, better yet, HEIF file.

Is Nikon capable of doing this by reprogramming the Expeed 7 processors on flagship cameras?

HDR Issue Forza Horizon 6

Hey guys,

I’m playing Forza in HDR on an ASUS XG27ACDMS OLED and HDR looks significantly better while driving. The lighting, reflections and overall image quality are just amazing compared to SDR.

The problem is: I also really enjoy taking photos in the in-game photo mode.

Whenever I export screenshots or transfer them to my iPhone 14 Pro Max, the images often end up looking overexposed, washed out or simply different from what I see on my monitor.

Right now my workflow is super annoying:
- disable HDR inside Forza
- disable Windows HDR via shortcut
- switch to a different monitor profile/settings
- restart/re-enter photo mode
- THEN take screenshots in SDR so they look correct afterwards

So my question is:
What’s the best workflow for HDR gaming + in-game photography?

Do you guys:
- just stay in HDR and edit afterwards?
- switch completely to SDR for screenshots?
- use HDR screenshot formats somehow?
- or is there a better way to keep screenshots looking accurate on phones/social media?

Would really appreciate some advice from people who play Forza on OLED/HDR setups.

Skyrim now supports HDR through the Community Shaders mod

It finally happened. Humanity has peaked.
Skyrim now supports HDR through the Community Shaders mod:
https://nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/179371 (HDR screenshots are in there)

HDR Den developers worked closely with Davo & Doodlum to bring this to life, in a process that lasted almost 2 years: the results are absolutely stunning!

Skyrim basically didn't do any tonemapping: it simply clipped all highlights. Since the game’s average brightness is very high, a huge amount of the scene could end up clipped at any given time: snow, fire, skies, spells, sky, etc.
With HDR, these finally retain detail, showcasing the art as it was made!
We also tweaked shadow to keep more detail, without losing contrast (the game clipped a lot of near-black colors due to ancient contrast formulas).

Stay tuned as there's more to come (HDR support for post-processing rework mods)!

New JXR to AVIF converter

Guys, I will just drop this here, very easy to build yourself in CMD.

The benefit to using SKIV is that you have bulk conversion and the output AVIFs show correct values in the windows photo viewer ( correct but not accounting for the display's peak highlights capabilities, meaning no tonemapping).

You still want to use SKIV to avoid clipping, but for conversion it is faster imho.

This was "vibe coded", so use it as is.

Discord RenoDX

I'm trying to figure out where to find the discord versions of Cyberpunk and Crimson Desert. Just getting downvoted for asking on another post. Im on Discord now and see a sort of list they have. No cyberpunk or Crimson desert. Searching yields nothing. Was told the versions on Nexus and snapshot for Cyberpunk was outdated? New one uses PsychoV tone mapper instead of RenoDRT or ACES.

Forza Horizon 6 is gorgeous in HDR!

It looks like the game is mastered to UHD Alliance spec: peak 1,000 nits, black level at 0.05 nits (14 stops). Most bright objects sit around 700 nits with only a few super bright spots reaching 1,000. The same is true for blacks - most black content sits above 0.05 nits with only a few spots reaching that level.

I'm not interested into going technical details, what's important to me is how the game looks and feels. And to me, overall FH6 looks and feels really good. Probably the best HDR game I've played so far!

P.S. I'm using a DisplayHDR 1400 monitor.

Weird hdr glitch(dead island 2 on ps5)

I’m on my Sony Bravia 7 xr70 playing dead island 2 hdr is beautiful although in specific really bright areas when you look at the clouds they slowly brighten more and more when looking at them. My settings are correct, it makes no sense why it’s doing this as other highlights don’t clip, but the clouds get brighter and brighter.

LG 34GX900A HDR/DSC Issue

I recently got this monitor, overall I am very happy with it. I have been trying to use HDR, but windows HDR calibration sucks and only allows me to go to 600 nits on a 1300 peak brightness monitor. I have attempted to use CRU to change this, but because DSR makes the changes in CRU not apply, I was hoping someone had a solution to getting DSC to turn off.

Monitor is 3440x1440@240hz

10bpc

Using HDMI 2.1 on an RTX 3080

Should only be using about 41gbps of the 48gbps bandwidth...

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Pin a thread about games that are HGiG compliant?

Maybe it would be a good idea to sticky a thread that has all games that support/comply with HGiG? It could be helpful

video stutter

I'm not a very tech savvy person. I just asked chatgpt and gemini how to best utilize hdr on my wqxga oled. they both said mpv player. gemini gave me a few configurations to put in a .conf file. now compared to vlc the hdr is really something. but the problem is the video is stuttering. I tried troubleshooting it with gemini and it gave me different scripts, the stutter would improve somewhat but still the playback is not as good as vlc.
this is whats currently in my .conf file

# ====== Core Presentation Engine ======

vo=gpu-next

gpu-api=d3d11

hwdec=d3d11va

# ====== The Ultimate Hybrid/VRR Stutter Fix ======

video-sync=audio

interpolation=no

d3d11-exclusive-fullscreen=no

d3d11-flip=yes

# ====== Perfect OLED Colors ======

target-colorspace-hint=yes

dither-depth=auto

# ====== UI Control ======

keep-open=yes

save-position-on-quit=yes

autofit=70%

I don't know what these lines mean. is there a way to improve the playback?

Overblown SDR content in HDR mode (especially reds)

Heya, im having this issue where my hdr just absolutely destroys the reds on sdr content. i have essentially accepted the fact that i will just never use hdr unless im full-screening hdr content (which doesnt happen) but after coming back to this issue and doing some searches, i noticed that not a lot of people have this exact issue. its always either a variation of low contrast/saturation or the hdr content being oversaturated. i was wondering if anyone was having the same issue or is this just something that's wrong with my display.

im using an Odyssey G80SD with game mode turned off. i have the color set to 50(max) and sdr looks great on it. i also have a windowz pc that has hdr turned on with this display, and it behaves normally (ish... you know).

i am using better display, though i use it more as a gimmick and dont actually have much configured on there, other than forcing a 10 bit full bandwith connection (changing this does not fix the issue)

so, does anyone have any ideas on why does this happen? atp im ready to accept that i just won't be able to use it, but it's still worth asking i guess
