MAJOR Renodx Crimson Desert update now on NEXUS MODS

https://www.nexusmods.com/crimsondesert/mods/7?tab=files

  • This patch rebuilt the game's shader set, so this release is a full re-port rather than a small compatibility update.

  • Complete Tone Mapping Coverage,- The game does not use one tone mapping shader, it swaps between hundreds of variants depending on graphics settings, display mode, active upscaler, photo mode, screen effects, and what is happening on screen. Until now, the mod only replaced the variants we had run into. Every variant we had not seen yet was a place where the mod could silently swap to the vanilla. This release covers the full tone mapping and final postprocess shader set that ships with the game, which is why the addon is larger.

  • Grading issues that are now fixed More graphics settings combinations keep RenoDX HDR tone mapping active., Sharpening, vignette, chromatic aberration, and film grain are covered across more final-output paths., Screen effects such as memory, aim highlight, overlays, tints, loading, and location/knowledge discovery keep correct grading., Fades and display settings remain correct across more SDR, HDR, DLAA, Photo mode output now matches the modded look across covered paths.,

  • DLAA And Transition Fixes, Restored sharpening on DLAA., Fixed the grading popping to vanilla during location discovery/knowledge, loading and gliding., Screen fades and display settings now remain correct on DLAA., Ray Reconstruction dependent features remain stable through short detection gaps during scene transitions.,

  • Ray Reconstruction Improvements, Reworked the experimental SPMIS for those on Ray Reconstruction / Ray Regeneration. (More stable and performant than before, keeps changes subtle and natural, fixes issues with old SPMIS) Settings Off: vanilla Ray Reconstruction behavior., SPMIS Balanced: lets through bright indirect light the engine normally caps, SPMIS Boosted: pushes stable indirect light past neutral for a bolder look, slightly noisier,

  • Aurora Improvements, Toggling aurora randomizes aurora., Expanded aurora color palettes., More visible animation., Better horizon and atmosphere blending., Improved moon/sun fade behavior., Subtle aurora contribution to environment lighting and reflections., Improved performance.,

  • RenoDX Profile Hotkeys And Settings, Added profile hotkeys to the Basic tab. This allows you to quickly swap settings with any hotkey (eg. turn HUD on and off), Added profiles 4/5., Added hotkeys for all profiles 1-5., Supports Ctrl, Shift, and Alt modifiers., Ctrl-click overridden sharpening values now persist across restarts.,

  • Additional Fixes: 7/5/2026 Fixed crescent moon flipping at horizon, 7/5/2026 Fixed blocky snow shadows,

What do you guys use when a game doesn't support RenoDX or HDR at all?

so i just learned that a lot of games with native hdr actually have pretty bad hdr implementation and renodx can make it look way better, less clipping, better details and stuff

ps. i dont have an oled yet (getting a Gigabyte MO27Q28GR soon) so i dont really have any hdr experience, only watched a bunch of hdr comparison videos on youtube on my phone but im already sold lol

the thing is i play a lot of indie games and some of them have native hdr but no renodx mod, and most of them dont even support hdr at all

so what do you guys usually do in that case?

  • just play in sdr?
  • use rtx hdr?
  • use special k?
  • or is there something else i should be using?

also if a game has native hdr but the implementation is pretty bad and theres no renodx mod for it, would you still use the native hdr or just turn it off and use rtx hdr instead?

and if i got any idea about hdr wrong feel free to correct me, im still pretty new to all this and just trying to learn

just trying to figure out whats the best option for games that dont support renodx or dont have hdr at all

thanks

Need some help. I have an Xbox series X. It’s hooked up to a LG C5. I have 444 chroma enabled. In the Xbox settings my “color space“ is set to auto/standard. The color depth is set to 10 bit. 444 Chroma Looks Way better. Should I use PC RGB? Or keep color space set to standard? Thanks.

HDR on my new AOC Q27G3XMN monitor looks dull and green-ish compared to SDR

I just bought an AOC Q27G3XMN, as I saw lots of good reviews and especially its VESA certified HDR 1000 and mini-led tech appealed me. The upgrade from my previous MSI G24C4 E2 is great (1080p -> 1440p, mini-led, hdr, 23' -> 27', ...) and I'm enjoying the monitor right now, but I have some issues with HDR.

I primarily use linux but dual boot with Windows so I can make sure the problems are not linux (arch, hyprland) specific. SDR on the monitor looks great, but when I try to switch to HDR the colors look a bit off: there's not a lot of red, it looks a bit greenish.

The first image is hdr, the second sdr. The third hdr again, the fourth sdr. So, the more saturated ones are sdr and the duller ones (where the blur is also a bit weird but that's a linux thing I think) are hdr.

Does anyone know if this is just me seeing weird things (which I don't think is the case because even after not seeing the sdr for a while, I still think it looks off) or the monitor is not calibrated correctly...? or another problem?

I'm quite sure it's not a bandwidth problem because when changing the refresh rate from 180Hz to 60Hz, it looks the same.

Apple Studio Display XDR: Reproducible HDR video stutter on Mac Studio M4 Max, but not M1 mini

I’ve spent the last few days trying to isolate a reproducible HDR playback issue involving my Apple Studio Display and Mac Studio M4 Max. At first I thought it was an issue with an iPhone recording, but after a lot of testing I’m now convinced it’s something much more specific.

Symptoms
Random micro-stutters during playback of 4K HDR videos. It looks like a frame is held slightly too long, followed by a visible jump. With some HDR videos, I also see brief localized flashing on the XDR display (looks like the HDR/local dimming changes momentarily).

Test setup
Display
Apple Studio Display XDR (same monitor throughout)
Macs
Mac Studio M4 Max (stutters) - Tahoe 26.5.1
Mac mini M1 (plays smoothly) - Sequoia 15.3.2
Content tested
Multiple iPhone 4K60 HDR HEVC recordings
Multiple YouTube HDR videos

Results
Mac Studio M4 Max + Apple Studio Display XDR
❌ Random frame stutters on almost every HDR iPhone clip
❌ Same behavior with YouTube HDR
❌ Occasional localized HDR flashing
Mac mini M1 + Apple Studio Display XDR
✅ Same videos play smoothly
✅ No noticeable stuttering
Mac Studio M4 Max + different monitor
✅ YouTube HDR plays smoothly
✅ No obvious stutter

So the issue only appears with the combination of:
M4 Max
Apple Studio Display
HDR playback

What I investigated
Initially I suspected the iPhone recording itself.
I analyzed the original file using ffprobe and ffmpeg showinfo. I found:
Mostly constant 60 fps timestamps with only 21 tiny timestamp corrections (~1.67 ms over a 67-second clip).
I then:
Transcoded to H.264 using software (libx264)
Removed B-frames
Generated CFR versions
Verified there were no decoder frame drops in VLC
Performed frame-by-frame motion analysis using OpenCV phase correlation
The motion analysis did not reveal corresponding image-motion discontinuities that explain the visible frame holds.

Important to note that the original file also plays perfectly smoothly on both my iPhone and iPad.

Current conclusion
At this point I no longer think this is an issue with the iPhone recording itself. The evidence points much more strongly toward an issue somewhere in the HDR playback/rendering pipeline specific to the combination of the M4 Max and the Apple Studio Display. Whether that’s a macOS regression, a GPU/display engine issue, or something else in Apple’s HDR presentation path, I can’t say.
Has anyone else with an Apple Studio Display and an M4-series Mac noticed similar HDR playback stutter or flashing?

I also recorded a short demonstration documenting the stutter and flashing behavior if anyone is interested:

Question on how to configure HDR

Should I be using the windows calibration tool to set it to my max monitor brightness or should I set it to something I find comfortable?

Such as my monitor is HDR 1000 but I definitely do not wanna be flash banged. And my monitor locks out the brightness option when In HDR mode at 100, so should I be dropping the brightness down in game by a lot to prevent an overly bright screen? I’m used to an SDR screen and prefer my brightness low at around the 30 percent mark. I’m just confused on how to use HDR properly

Monitor; INNOCN GA27T1M
So it’s definitely not a low budget monitor

My LG 5K2K OLED with HDR enabled has dull, darkened colors except whites

Hello, yesterday I received my first ever 5K2K OLED monitor, the incredible LG 45GX950A-B.

Instantly upon enabling HDR i noticed an extremely strange issue, all colors are a dimmer, darkened version of themselves, yet at the same time anything white is normally bright and accurate. My QD-OLED 32:9 monitor I had replaced with this new 5K2K monitor did not have this issue whatsoever with HDR enabled, so I am clueless as to how to start diagnosing the problem!

Summary & Explanation

- Colors are now a much darker and dimmer version of what they are supposed to be, the Xbox app icon's background is now a dim, dark green but with a bright white xbox logo inside. Since Firefox's icon has no white, the entire icon is very dim, you would almost think that Windows 11 is trying to say "this program is not available right now" with how dark it is, but it simply just looks that way.

The strangest part is that whites are not dimmed at all, in icons and everywhere else, the whites stand out just fine almost like white is the only "color" that can be bright and accurate in HDR.

SDR behavior is completely fine, Windows 11 looks nice and colorful throughout.

What I have tried:

- Changing monitor picture modes, changing peak brightness setting, adjusting color temperature, etc.

- Re-installing & resetting AMD Adrenalin Graphics Drivers.

- Running the "Pixel Cleaner" through the monitor OSD

- Checking for monitor firmware updates (It is already the latest version)

- Changing the SDR content brightness slider in Windows 11's settings

- Using Microsoft's HDR Calibration Tool to create a custom profile with appropriate peak brightness.

What gives?

Please keep in mind: I do realize Windows 11 desktop has poor HDR support and can look strange by default, but this particular problem has never occurred with my other QD-OLED monitor I had before, this is definitely not normal and is not the usual W11 HDR weirdness that is to be expected. I also use the DWM EOTF fix from GitHub to correct the strange default W11 HDR gamma problem, I tried disabling this aswell just in case, but I had no luck.

Unfortunately I am running out of ideas as to how to fix this, I would very much appreciate any suggestions! Thank you!

Facing colour and brightness issues with my TV and PS5

I recently bought a PS5 and a TCL 4K QLED TV.
I’m using HDMI 1 for the PS5. Game Mode is ON and I’m also using the Game preset while keeping a custom color profile.
When I turn on both the TV and PS5 (as shown in the video) the colors look perfect sharp, bright and properly saturated.
But the issue starts when I put the PS5 in Rest Mode, restart it or turn the TV back on while the PS5 is still in Rest Mode. In those cases the picture becomes dull and both brightness and colors look faded compared to normal.
I’m sure it’s not a PS5 issue since it doesn’t have any color preset controls. The pictures shows the normal output which it usually does the brighter one

My PS5 settings:
4K
ALLM ON
VRR Automatic
HDR Enabled
120Hz Automatic

My TV settings:
Game Mode ON
Game preset: Custom

Hdr only good for this game

Im on Xbox Series X and i have a hdr 400 ips monitor and while it is a lower hdr rating and its ips which isnt ideal for hdr, when i play a game such as dead island 2 in hdr it looks GOOD and much better than playing sdr but dead island 2 seems to be the only game that looks good with hdr. I tried playing games like cyberpunk, gta5 etc with hdr and then it looks awful and the colours become so much more desaturated and its just bad. Anyone know any fixes or is this a problem with my monitor or just the games i play. Dead island 2 with hdr is the only game ive played so far that actually works and ive tested between hdr and sdr and hdr definitely looks like an improvement and the colours are 10x nicer but most other games with hdr end up completely ruining the colours.

Is there anyway to accidently damage HDR?

Thats one of my bigger fears when cleaning a screen. Somehow damaging how bright it can get with micro scratches or anything of such. Is it actually at all possible?

For an extream example in theory if you were to have a massive gash on your screen, if it could still light up would HDR still be bright?

If FH6 HDR peak brightness only adjusts in 100 nit steps, should I use 500 or 600 nits with a display calibrated to 560 nits in Windows HDR Calibration?

I'm also wondering: if I set the HDR peak brightness in the game to 500 nits, will it somehow limit my monitor to 500 nits, or will my display still be able to reach its actual peak brightness of 1600 nits?

Need help with HDR

I’m having an issue with HDR in a game. There seems to be some color banding (I believe that’s what it’s called) happening. I have the exact same game on my Xbox Series X and it looks fine there, but on my PC running SteamOS it looks like this — even with the exact same picture settings on the TV.

New to HDR

Hello everyone,

I've recently (earlier this week) purchased my first OLED Monitor Gigabyte GO27Q24G and moved my old HVA panel as my secondary screen. I am curious and I'd like to try HDR (I'm assuming that the new monitor should handle it was better than my old one. The old HVA panel was only hdr10 and not really capable).

In my OSD I can see several modes -HDR, HDR game, HDR vivid, HDR movie or HDR peak 1300. Which of those modes should I be using? (My main goal would be gaming in HDR), what's the best way to play in HDR? From my understanding the HDR implementation isn't always the best? Is RTX HDR any good?

Thank you in advance for your help

Crimson Desert: Native HDR vs. RenoDX HDR - Which looks better to you?

RenoDX overhauls the game's rendering features. It includes updated screen space shadows and shading for various materials. It also has an adjusted auto exposure and controls for bloom, lens flares, chromatic aberration, and sharpening. It also rewrites the tone mapping pipeline for SDR and HDR, drastically improving visuals and offering extensive controls.

I used RenoDX defaults settings. This was recorded using RenoDX before the last patches were released. I know the developer is continuously updating the game, which is currently ruining the RenoDX implementation.

Depending on your display, the difference in night lighting, contrast, and highlights is massive.

How RenoDX looks for you and what do you think about the mod changes and possibilities or do you prefer the native developer look?

Onimusha Way of the Sword Looks Completely Different with these Mods! | RTGI + RTAO | RenoDX HDR

The black level lift in this demo is really noticeable, everything in shadow areas looks slightly grey instead of true black, which gives that washed out feel a lot of people are mentioning. The fix is usually simple on the user side, just lowering the black level using reshade shaders or shadow detail slider in the in game HDR mod menu. It won't fix the underlying tone mapping curve, but it goes a long way toward getting actual black back instead of that grey haze over everything.

📺 HDR Technical Specs:

- RenoDX WIP Addon
- 3000+ Nits Peak Luminance
- Wide Color Gamut (WCG)
- Optimized for OLED, Mini-LED & High-end HDR10 Displays

► MODS:
🔗 Mod RTGI & RTAO: The Onimusha WotS Demo only ships with basic RT reflections out of the box. This mod unlocks RTGI and RTAO, bringing ray-traced global illumination and ambient occlusion to the demo for the first time. Everything is controlled from a single clean toggle in the REFramework Script UI.
https://www.nexusmods.com/onimushawayofthesword/mods/20

🔗 Mod Enhanced Lighting: Capcom's lighting in Onimusha WotS leaves some areas feeling flat or underlit, particularly when using RTGI mod, where the absence of light sources becomes more noticeable. This mod addresses that by carefully placing custom lights that respect the tone and atmosphere of each area, while selectively disabling certain default game lights that produce clashing or incorrect results. The end goal is a lighting experience that feels like it could have shipped with the game, with a few personal touches added where it matters most.
