I accidently bought an Omnibook 7 with scandinavian instead of german keys, should I keep it? I was offered a 20% discount if I do.

They offered me the HP Omnibook 7 AI 16-ay0083no (Core Ultra 5, 16 GB, 1000GB) for 600.00 CHF instead of 755.00, because of the keyboard mistake. Should I accept it? It is a slightly used one, they sell it new for 1109 CHF atm.

HP EliteBook 840 G6 screen started glitching suddenly after Windows Update

My HP EliteBook 840 G6 screen suddenly started glitching yesterday, and I’m trying to figure out what could have caused it before I pay for a screen replacement.

Earlier that day, I installed a Windows Security update. The update finished and asked me to restart the laptop. Less than an hour w/o restarting, the screen suddenly started glitching. I shut the laptop down and turned it back on, but the problem was still there.

I haven’t dropped the laptop or physically mishandled it, so the timing with the Windows update has me wondering if this could be software/driver related rather than a failed screen.

Can a laptop screen genuinely develop a hardware fault suddenly like this, even without any physical damage?

For an HP EliteBook 840 G6, what would be the most likely causes of this kind of screen glitch? Could a Windows update or graphics driver cause a problem that looks like a hardware failure?

I’d appreciate any suggestions for tests I can do to determine whether it’s the LCD, display cable, graphics driver/GPU, or something else before replacing the screen.

I’ve attached pictures of the glitch for reference.

Facing issues with Hp laptop while charging

I've hp pavilion convertible laptop, & it was working fine all together, with minute troubleshoots every now and then, not much of an problem. But as of today, laptop literally stopped charging.. I've tried different adapter.

It requires 65 W, usually adapter takes 20 A of current (sometimes around 19.9 or 19.8) but after it stopped charging I check, its showing 18.8 A.

& Now the battery has drained complete. in a way, I can say it's dead at this very moment.

so question is:

1.Why did this happened?

2.How can this be resolve?

3.Is there, anything I can do?

TSLR: today laptop stopped charging, cable & adapters are fine & now it has reached 0% battery, couldn't even open it.

Most people who followed $CYDY remember March 30, 2021. The FDA publicly stated that CytoDyn's claims about leronlimab were "misleading and not supported by the data", no benefit was shown in COVID-19 treatment trials. The stock dropped 25%+ that day.

What happened afterward was a class action lawsuit covering investors who held $CYDY between March 27, 2020 and March 30, 2022.

A $500,000 settlement has been reached and terms are now submitted to the court for approval.

Who qualifies?

Anyone who held $CYDY during the class period and suffered losses from the alleged misrepresentations about leronlimab's effectiveness for HIV and COVID-19.

Can I still apply?

Yes, you can submit your application now and it will be processed once claims filing officially opens after court approval.

If you were damaged by this don't forget to check your eligibility. GL!

Updates for Getting Payment on the Rivian $250 million Settlement

Hey guys, if you missed it, Rivian settled $250 million with investors over claims that it failed to disclose the true cost of producing its vehicles. And, I just found out that they’re accepting claims even though the deadline has passed.

Quick recap: In 2022, Rivian was accused of misleading investors about its vehicle pricing and production costs. In short, the company promoted its R1T pickup and R1S SUV as competitively priced electric vehicles, but investors later alleged that Rivian was losing substantial amounts of money on each vehicle sold and failed to clearly disclose how severe the cost gap was. As supply-chain issues and material costs increased, Rivian announced major price hikes that sparked customer backlash and raised concerns about the company’s financial outlook.

Now, the good news is that the company agreed to settle $250 million with them, and even though the deadline has passed recently, they’re accepting late claims.

So, if you invested in $RIVN when all of this happened, you can still check the details and file your claim here.

Anyway, has anyone here invested in $RIVN at that time? How much were your losses, if so?

HP laptop has random black-screen freezes, 90B fan error after shutdowns, and now won't turn on or charge

I'm having several serious problems with my HP laptop, and I'm trying to figure out whether they're related. The laptop is currently completely dead, so I'm especially concerned about the underlying hardware.

Laptop specs:

HP Model - HP 15-FC-1004AU

AMD Ryzen 5 7000HS-series CPU

Radeon integrated graphics

8 GB DDR5 RAM

512 GB SSD

Windows 11

  1. Random black-screen freezes

The laptop occasionally becomes completely unresponsive and the screen goes black.

This can happen both while the laptop is idle and while I'm actively using it. It isn't consistently triggered by inactivity.

When it happens:

Screen goes completely black.

Power-button LED remains on.

Keyboard backlight may remain on initially.

Moving the mouse/touchpad does nothing.

Win + Ctrl + Shift + B doesn't bring the display back.

Closing and reopening the lid doesn't help.

Eventually, the keyboard becomes unresponsive as well.

Caps Lock doesn't respond.

The only way to recover is holding the power button for around 10–15 seconds to force it off.

So it seems like the entire system is freezing, rather than just the display turning off.

  1. 90B fan error after unexpected shutdowns

The laptop has also shown the HP 90B fan error, but there is something unusual about when it appears.

It happens after an unexpected shutdown.

The sequence is generally:

Unexpected shutdown → turn laptop back on → 90B fan warning appears → laptop needs to cool down completely → after cooling, the warning disappears and the laptop starts normally.

The fan itself appears to be working.

I've also:

Opened and cleaned the fan.

Run HP's Fan Speed Test — Passed.

Run HP's Fan Thermal Test — Passed.

So I'm confused about why I'm getting the 90B warning when the fan appears to work and passes HP's diagnostics.

  1. Most serious issue: laptop is now completely dead

Yesterday, I was playing a video with 13 Brave tabs open. The laptop was working normally for around 16–17 minutes, and then it suddenly powered itself off.

After that, I couldn't turn it back on.

I tried the usual recovery methods, including holding the power button for around 15 seconds, but nothing worked.

More importantly, it isn't charging either.

When I plug in the charger, the small charging indicator on the side of the laptop doesn't light up at all.

There is no response — it basically behaves as if the laptop is completely dead.

What could be causing this?

I'm wondering if these problems could be connected somehow:

random system freezes → unexpected shutdowns → 90B warning → now complete no-power/no-charging condition.

Could this be a problem with the motherboard, charging/power circuit, battery, thermal protection, BIOS/firmware, fan sensor, RAM, or something else?

The fact that the laptop now has zero charging indication is particularly concerning to me.

I'd really appreciate advice from anyone familiar with HP laptops or who has experienced similar symptoms. I'd especially like to know what I can safely test to determine whether this is a motherboard/power issue before taking it to a repair shop.

HP support rant

HP has been unprofessional, inconsistent, and difficult to contact

Here’s what happened:

I bought a laptop for college (OMEN MAX 16T). The laptop cost A LOT of money. Well over a car off Facebook market place. It had a total motherboard death 6 months after buying it. Just turned off one day under normal use, completely dead

I sent the laptop back in and only got delays for 3 months. Also they missed the latest deadline with NO contact or new deadline. Then I reached out and they agreed to send me a new laptop. Now I will say it took under a week to escalate my warranty and get the new one in my hands. So on that front I was impressed and satisfied.

The laptop they sent me has the wrong specs. The email they sent me of its specs isn’t accurate to what I got.

So now I need to go back down the support rabbit hole and hope they send me a new replacement with the proper specs before I leave for uni again in a month.

Seriously HP I am beyond disappointed and saying I’m frustrated is a gross understatement. The motherboard shortage isn’t my problem. I bought a product and a warranty, a shortage is something you deal with and take hits to figure out. Stop selling these products if you can’t fix them in a reasonable time frame.

Anyways, all in all I’d say when you take the matter into your own hands it gets figured out eventually, if you don’t, you might be waiting for half a year or potentially longer for warranty repair

My advice; don’t drop it. I had to call three times to get in touch with a support manager and conversed with them to ensure my specs would be identical or better. Ask questions, figure out the next step, and make sure you get what BOTH PARTIES agreed as a resolution. This advice is for any warranty or issue. These companies genuinely have no reason to help you so you need to help yourself. Have a nice day everyone

HP Z4 G4 wont post after BIOS Update 3 red 2 white flashes

* Rig: HP Z4 G4 * GPU: AMD Radeon RX 6400 * RAM: DDR4 Non-ECC (pulled from OptiPlex 3050 SFF) Issue: Updated BIOS during prep for CPU upgrade. Post update, PC starts but no POST with 3 Red blinks , 2 White flashes. Fans ramp up after a few minutes, but keyboard gets no power, so I can't do Win + B BIOS recovery. Troubleshooting Done: * Tested each RAM stick individually in slot DIMM1 * Pulled CMOS battery * Let machine run (fans ramp up, light code persists) Main Question: I put the ram in before the update and it worked fine no issues, could the update cause it to not be supported anymore? Anyway to fix this without selling my soul for more ram or it's gone and buy another Motherboard? Any help would do I can't afford a gaming PC so upgrading this is the next best thing.

The HP Notebook 247 G8 is overheating and shutting down. Is it just the fan? 90B or 90D warnings too.

Laptop specs: HP 247 G8, Ryzen 3 5th Gen 4-core/8-thread U-series, 8GB RAM, 512GB SSD, Vega 6, 14-inch. Bought on 25th Dec 2022.

Hey guys,

I have an HP notebook that I mainly use for 1-2 hours of YouTube/courses and around 8 hours of WFH. [used to use for coding (VS Code), (SQL cmd), (Python cmd), etc., and a lot of gaming and YouTube]

Now in 2026:-

  1. It started showing temperature/fan warnings, so I took it to a local shop. The tech cleaned the fan with a brush in front of me and didn't charge me anything. After that, the warning disappeared, but so did the fan.

  2. I went back and complained that the fan had stopped working. After checking it, he said the fan motor was severely overheating and had eventually failed. Since then, the laptop shuts down once it reaches a certain temperature, kind of a thermal fail-safe.

  3. I even keep the AC at 20°C while working and already bought a gaming cooling pad with 6 fans running at 2900 RPM, but it still overheats and shuts down. After repeated shutdowns, Windows even locked me out for 2 hours.

  4. On battery, it keeps getting hotter because the internal fan isn't working and eventually shuts down. If I leave it switched off and just charge it, there is no issue. But as soon as I use it with the charger plugged in, it heats up and shuts down.

  5. I don't think there is any performance issue with the laptop itself. It seems like the cooling system has simply given up.

I had installed Linux a while back (2024) when everything was working normally, and it ran really smoothly with no lag or jitter. No gaming on Linux, so I eventually switched back to Windows. (2025)

I contacted HP Support, and they told me to visit an HP Service Center, where apparently I can get the replacement fan for a reasonable price.

I'm really hoping it's just the fan and not the entire cooling system. I used to play games on this laptop, so the fan would run continuously for hours.

What do you guys suggest? Is replacing the fan likely to solve this, or should I also be worried about the heatsink, heat pipes, thermal paste, or something else?

Thanks!

Better screen option for HP OmniBook X Flip 2-in-1 16" w/ LCD

So I recently got an OmniBook X Flip 2-in-1 for really cheap and overall seems like a solid laptop with no flex when typing and all metal frame is nice. My only complaint is why did HP put a 62.5% SRGB color gamut screen on this laptop?! I get cost cutting but the visual quality is poor. Here is my question: Any replacement screens that are better LCD with 30 pins or a way to connect 40 pin OLED panel to the motherboard?

Need help fixing my HP EliteBook 840 G3 — BIOS locked, Windows corrupted, everything broken

Hey everyone, I’m trying to fix my HP EliteBook 840 G3 (Windows 10) and it’s gotten so messed up that almost nothing works anymore. I’m hoping someone can help me repair it for free or recommend what to do next.

Here’s everything going wrong:

💻 Laptop Details

  • HP EliteBook 840 G3
  • Intel i5‑6300U
  • 8GB RAM
  • BIOS: N75 Ver. 01.24 (2018)
  • Serial: 5CG7065BC5
  • UUID: 7C25370A‑EFF9‑11E6‑855B‑0607B9008048

🛑 Major Problems:

1. BIOS is locked:

I can’t change boot order, update BIOS, or access advanced recovery.
HP says I need an SMC.bin unlock file.

2. Windows is severely corrupted:

  • SFC and DISM don’t fix anything
  • Settings app broken
  • Taskbar sometimes doesn’t load
  • Windows Update fails
  • Recovery Mode doesn’t load
  • Safe Mode only partially works

3. Boot issues:

  • Slow boot
  • Sometimes won’t turn on
  • Black screen with fans spinning
  • WinRE missing or corrupted

4. Network problems:

  • WiFi disconnects randomly
  • Adapter disappears
  • Network services fail to start

5. Hardware aging:

  • Possible SSD wear
  • Possible CMOS battery failure
  • External monitor not detecting
  • Random freezes and crashes

🛠️ What I’ve already tried:

  • SFC /scannow
  • DISM /restorehealth
  • msconfig repairs
  • Driver updates
  • Safe Mode
  • Basic hardware checks

❓ What I need help with:

  • How do I unlock the BIOS?
  • How do I repair Windows without losing files?
  • Should I reset Windows or reinstall?
  • Is this fixable or is the hardware dying?
  • Any Ottawa tech helpers willing to take a look?

Thanks for any help — I’m stuck.

🔥 Everything Wrong With Your HP EliteBook 840 G3 (Based on Your System Info + Symptoms)

🧩 1. BIOS Lock / Firmware Problems

Your BIOS version: N75 Ver. 01.24 (2018)
Your UUID: 7C25370A‑EFF9‑11E6‑855B‑0607B9008048

This tells me:

  • Your BIOS is 8 years out of date
  • EliteBooks with old BIOS versions often get:
  • Boot failures
  • Secure Boot corruption
  • Missing recovery environment
  • Fan spin + black screen
  • You cannot update BIOS because your BIOS is password‑locked
  • You cannot change boot order → cannot reinstall Windows normally
  • You cannot access advanced recovery tools
  • You cannot fix firmware‑level corruption

This is the #1 root cause of your entire mess.

You need an SMC.bin unlock file from HP.

🧩 2. Windows System Corruption:

Based on your symptoms:

  • SFC and DISM fail or don’t fix anything
  • Windows apps missing
  • Settings app broken
  • Taskbar not loading
  • Windows Update failing
  • Recovery Mode not loading
  • Safe Mode only partially working

This means:

Your Windows installation is severely corrupted, likely from:

  • Forced shutdowns
  • Failed updates
  • BIOS restrictions blocking repairs
  • Damaged system files
  • Possibly a damaged Windows partition

This is not normal wear — it’s deep OS corruption.

🧩 3. Hardware Aging / Failure:

Your EliteBook 840 G3 is from 2016–2017.
Common failures at this age:

  • SSD wear (causes slow boot, freezing, missing files)
  • RAM instability
  • Power delivery issues
  • CMOS battery failure (causes BIOS weirdness)
  • WiFi card instability
  • Overheating due to dust

Your symptoms match:

  • Slow boot
  • Random freezes
  • WiFi adapter disappearing
  • External display not detecting
  • Laptop sometimes won’t turn on

This strongly suggests SSD degradation or motherboard aging.

🧩 4. Network Stack Corruption:

You reported:

  • WiFi disconnecting
  • Adapter disappearing
  • Network services failing
  • Safe Mode networking unstable

This is caused by:

  • Corrupted Windows networking stack
  • Damaged drivers
  • Possibly failing WiFi card

EliteBooks are notorious for this.

🧩 5. Missing or Broken System Services

You’ve mentioned:

  • Windows services not starting
  • System apps missing
  • Settings app crashing
  • Taskbar not loading

This means:

Your Windows registry is damaged, and several core services are failing:

  • AppX Deployment Service
  • Windows Shell Experience Host
  • Windows Update
  • Network Location Awareness
  • Windows Installer
  • WinRE (Recovery Environment)

This is why nothing behaves normally.

🧩 6. Bootloader / Partition Problems:

Symptoms:

  • Windows Recovery won’t load
  • Boot errors
  • Safe Mode only partially works
  • System apps missing
  • DISM cannot repair

This suggests:

  • Corrupted EFI partition
  • Damaged WinRE partition
  • Possibly a broken BCD (boot configuration data)

This is extremely common when BIOS is locked and Windows updates fail.

THIS IS A NIGHTMARE

I just sent the following to HP corporate, but out of ABSOLUTE DESPERATION, I am posting here on the off chance they monitor this board:

"Please, PLEASE help me and send me the functioning computer I paid for 8 months ago. I am begging you.

We spent $4000 on your top of the line gaming PC as a Christmas present to my sons. My husband is a first responder, this was a huge purchase for us. This was 8 months ago, and we have yet to be able to use it as intended.

I first contacted tech support in April, after trying everything myself to troubleshoot and make sure we weren't doing anything wrong. I spent about 12 hours over the course of a few weeks with your technicians doing everything they asked. It didn't work. I sent it in for repair. You guys sent it back. It still doesn't work. And now tech support is asking me to repeat everything we already did in May. I spent 3 hours yesterday doing troubleshooting tasks they requested. I'm on hour 2 today. They are telling me that no, you will not replace this PC with a functional one. I spoke to a manager and explained that at this point, we are going on EIGHT MONTHS since I purchased this PC, and almost TWENTY HOURS of you asking ME to work with your techs to make it functional. At this point, y'all might as well pay me as a contractor and issue a 1099.

Please, I have been brand loyal to HP for years. I purchased your top of the line PC so that it would work seamlessly. I did not pay that much so that 8 months later, I still do not have a functioning PC and have spent MANY MANY of my own hours working on it, per the request of your tech support.

I truly do not understand why HP will not stand behind their product and simply say "My goodness, I'm so sorry that the PC you purchased does not work. We will of course replace it so that you can get what you paid for!"

PLEASE end this troubleshooting and repair horror cycle I am stuck in and send me a functioning PC. We have boxes of flight simulator controls still unopened since Christmas, waiting for the gaming PC we paid for. PLEASE. This has turned into an absolute Christmas nightmare. I have NEVER had a company send me a nonfunctioning product and then tell me they will not replace it with a functioning one, even after SO MUCH TIME and SO MANY HOURS OF MY OWN WORK.

I am literally on my knees praying at this point that you will either just take this thing back and give me my money so I can buy a new one, or replace it. "

Editing to add for those asking the problem:

It freezes when you try to play any sort of game. But not the usual freeze or blue screen of death. It stays powered on, but the screen goes blank and the power button no longer works. I have to pull power at the outlet to get it to restart. Event logs show Kernal power errors and application faults. Tried a few factory resests, didn't do anything. At the request of HP technicians, did the thing where you totally reset from a USB drive as well. Have run all the diagnostic tests local on the computer, no errors. Have also run all the component tests you can get to when you press escape immediately after power on. No errors.

It works fine for just web browsing, but when you try to play a game it happens. Have updated everything, including BIOS and graphics drivers. Have done all the monitoring in both the omen gaming hub and the nvidia app to ensure nothing is overheating (it's not). Fans are also working fine. We haven't enabled overclocking. I make sure to close all apps before trying to game. Opened the side panel up and cleaned with compressed air out of desperation. I've literally done everything the techs have asked, MORE THAN ONCE. They finally approved it to be "sent in for repair" in May. They replaced the graphics card, closed the case, and sent it back. It still happens. Now because they closed the case because "we repaired it", they want me to start everything over. I have expressed that my concern is this will keep happening over and over until it's no longer under warranty. I've asked if the next time they fix it, can they please not close the case until I get it and see if it works. They said no, they have to close the case to ship it back to me.

I purchased it from HP.com. We bought it in November, but did not actually set it up until after Christmas (Christmas gift). It started having the issue about 3 weeks into using it. I tried a ton of troubleshooting myself, thinking we were the problem, before I reached out to tech support. Too late to return to store, I tried.

If anyone has an idea for something to try, I'm all ears. It's an OMEN Max 45L with basically every custom upgrade you can order on the site. Bought for a flight sim setup, but it won't even handle roblox or kerbal space program for my kids. I have nothing to show for the money we spent at this point.

UPDATE Aug 15:

I'm really touched that so many people have taken time to help me troubleshoot. I was just trying to get corporate attention, but if this gets solved by internet strangers, hallelujah. A lot of the questions/suggestions I'm seeing are a bit intimidating because this is way out of my wheelhouse, but I'll learn as I go. I'm still baffled that HP would expect an average joe consumer to do this much work to make the darn thing work, but here we are.

Here is what I intend to try based off everyones suggestions:

  1. Do a fresh install from USB drive that removes partitions. I don't know what that means but I'm sure me and my pal YouTube can make it happen.

  2. Keep jumping through their troubleshooting hoops with tech support until they deem I've done enough work and they will take it for repair a 2nd time.

  3. Write a letter with a detailed narrative/timeline and photos and send to HP corporate.

  4. File a report with BBB.

Here's the kicker: It won't turn on today. Well, it powers up but windows wont boot up. I've tried the F10 thing and the escape button thing. So....that's fun.

Since I am going to write out a detailed narrative to send them anyway, I might as well put it here.

November 2025: Bought from HP.com. Wrapped it up in pretty paper and put it under Xmas tree.

Mid January 2026: Finally got around to setting up. We were waiting on peripherals and a desk to arrive.

Spent the first month doing light gaming on it (kids playing roblox or minecraft). About 3 weeks into thay, I started to hear "Mom, the computer crashed'. Frequency increased.

Thought at first we were doing something wrong. Spent about a month troubleshooting myself. Cleaned it real good, removed preinstalled software we didn't want, turned off onedrive syncing, made sure no background apps were running when they gamed, tried different settings in thr Omen hub, used the omen hub booster and optimizer, etc. Updated drivers in Nvidia app. Twice reset to factory settings.

April/May. Realized I wasn't gonna fix it and it crashed so much it's now unusable. Contact HP. Tech support has me do a lot of things. BIOS updates. Reset from cloud. Reset from USB drive. Long version diagnostic tests. No tests showed anything. Only record of issues is all the critical errors in the event viewer.

Late May: They FINALLY take it for repair. They replace graphics card.

Late June: We get it back. Same issues. But it's summer and we get busy and go on vacation.

August: I start re-engaging with tech support. They marked the case closed when they sent it back, so now we have to open NEW case which means I have to repeat EVERYTHING for them to take it for repair again. I finally get a supervisor on the phone and explain that I'm getting close to 20 hrs of troubleshooting, and I've completely lost confidence in both this PC and HP. I said I wanted a replacement or refund. Told its not an option, and if I want them to repair again, I must do the "mandatory steps" again. I say I did that all in May , they say it doesn't count because it was a different case. I say this time don't close the case until I get it and see if it works. No, they say, they have to close it to ship it back.

And here we are.
