I have been thinking about how I can get out of high school early until I found this test (HiSet CPP). I am starting 10th grade and had a 4.2 GPA last year. I was wondering how to prepare for the test and how to actually sign up for it. I would appreciate any help 😊
Hello everyone, I take my reading California proficiency test for reading tomorrow and I am quiet nervous. I have already passed the writing and math tests and the reading is the only one left. I have taken the reading test 3 times (Once online and twice in person). On my first time taking it (Online) I got 11/20. The next two times in person I both got 13/20. In between the two in person tests I was studying and when I found out I got the same score I don't know where I went wrong, my percentages on each area did improve but my score did not go up. I will put my test scores from all my reading tests I have took below in the order that I took them in. I have been studying and I am confident and nervous at the same time, if anyone has any tips at all they are much appreciated!
Thinking of taking the HiSET wondering if writing an essay is necessary to pass if so how many points do you need? Been hearing different things some people say 2 others say 4.
I only ask because it seems a lot of people that take the GED say you can skip the essay part of the LA test and still have enough points to pass.
Let Me Say I've Never Taken A GED Test & I'm 29. I Was Sooo Nerves About It. But I Did It On The First Try ! And Made Exactly A 145 ! Now I Just Have 3 More To Go. Next Is language arts. Anyone Have Any Advice?
I can understand, like with most things in the world right now, people usually only talk about bad experiences in reviews and what not. Most of the things I see on here are horror stories about how rude or strict the proctors are. What's your experience?
I'm getting ready to start my testing and I just want to know what the overall experience is, and what to expect. I have some things in the only private room available that I simply cannot move. Like I have a drum set behind me. And where my computer desk is set up, where the only source for an ethernet cable is, you cannot see the door. I can't imagine they can be upset about the layout of the room, but I remember reading on here or somewhere that a proctor got pissed about a shelf of books, that the test taker couldn't even access while on camera and they wanted them to remove the books.
Is this ridiculous or have you had experiences like this? If I happen to run into a rude proctor or I think they're making outrageous asks, am I able to ask to speak with someone to fix the issue? I have to get these tests done for my new job and I just want to hammer them all out ASAP and be done with it but I'm not sure about how I feel about these horror stories of rude proctors taking 3 hours before a test even begins.
hi everyone i 16F am taking the hiSet profiecency exam next month. I am entering junior year but i was homeschooled for sophmore year (just a year) i was in public school my whole life though. But this one year break from public school totally made me insecure about my math skills! I am so so worried that I'll fail the math portion bc i have in general bad test anxiety. Also am wondering bcs im not aware of how it works: is it better to take the test in person, or online proctored. Thank you!
A couple posts back, you could see my post from July 15th. That was when I failed my math subtest with a 12/20 and I was genuinely just devastated and lost. I was about to give up and not retake it. However, I just thought, let me try one last time. So I did, and I was able to pass with a 16/20. I do not have the best mindset, and with math being literally my least favorite subject ever, I seriously cannot believe that I was able to pass. What I want to tell you guys is, YOU CAN DO IT!! Don't let one failure bring you down forever! I fell into deep depression after my fail, but I kept trying and studying, and I was able to pass. Although I was shaking and was just SO scared during my test, I was still able to do it. If I could do it, better believe YOU can do it too. Don't give up, you got this.
EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT CPP
Background Info
As yg may know that they changed CHSPE to the name HiSET Proficiency or CPP. I just finished my junior year of high school and I wanted to get a headstart on community college. So far, I like how the program is structured because of how the tests are separated so you have ALL the time to study for each test so you really don't have an excuse to not study. For those of you who are confused, HiSET is for people who dropped out of high school and they want to get a diploma so they take 5 tests (Science, Math, Reading, Writing, and Social Studies) to get their diploma. For HiSET Proficiency, it's a high school exit exam, so you only have to pass Writing, Reading, and Math. I just finished taking CPP, so here's some advice and information based on my experience!
Reading Subtest (50 questions, 65 min)
I took the reading test twice because I failed the first time, but lowkey when I took it the second time, the first half of the test had the same questions as the first failed test. So it was a lot easier to pass the second time because you learn from your mistakes! Before you take your test, please please practice. Practice tests for reading was so helpful for me and I'm going to recommend some practice tests that I found so convenient later in this post.
Writing Subtest (61 questions, 120 min)
This test was very simple and straightforward because it basically just tests you on a little bit of everything: punctuation, order, grammar, and the way you write essays. Most of the questions test you on your grammar so if you're good at grammar, you'll ace this test the first time. Before this test, I was literally timing myself and writing essays on controversial and difficult topics because they will give you a prompt and you have to write 5 paragraphs. Let me tell you this, when I actually took the test, I got a prompt that was literally elementary level no kidding. The prompt asked me if employees should bring their dogs to work or not. Yes. I know what you're thinking. You might be saying "Oh I don't have to practice or worry about the prompt at all" no no no most people get harder and controversial prompts that will stump you.
Math Subtest (55 questions, 90 min)
I took the Math test two times, and passed the second time and it was a lot easier! I recommend you study these 4 basic topics:
I suggest you focus a lot on Algebra since practically the whole test was algebra with like 2 questions involving geometry in the whole test at least for me. Khan Academy is the main resource I used to study for this test, and I just studied the 4 main topics listed above, just keep on practicing and you'll get the hang of it!
PSI Customer Service
I called so many testing centers and places that might know about the new version of CHSPE. And literally barely anyone knew what I was talking about. I couldn't find the actual number on ANY website because I had also many questions that needed to be cleared up about CPP. I spent a week trying to look for this specific number to call, and it wasn't even on the actual HiSET website. Then I soon find out that it was on the Test Taker Bulletin all the way at the bottom. So PSI really needs to make their number easier to find so people can freely ask questions and solve technical problems. I'm sorry to anyone who had to experience something similar to mine because it wasn't fun at all. Overall, I really struggled with PSI's customer service, mind you they are the behind-the-scenes people. I wanted to cry because of them and I felt like I was all alone in this process for CPP because it was a new system and no one knew what I was talking about. I had so many questions about this whole program so I decided to give them a call. They literally do not know what they are talking about and I'm sorry but they are really bad at answering questions. I was so curious and I wanted to clarify how many questions were going to be on the test, and they told me there would be 20 questions on the reading test. I'm sorry, 20 questions??? No way the state of California is going to be making tests that consist of 20 questions. So obviously I didn't believe them because I saw something different on the website. I had to speak with different agents and finally, someone told me the truth there are actually 50 questions. Anyway, I struggled a lot with them and it's hard to put into words because this post is already longer than I expected it to be haha.
Resources
I got the Official Guide to the HiSET Exam book which included everything: the amount of time you have on each test, the amount of questions, practice tests, descriptions of the tests, and what to expect. I don't really recommend buying it because you can find it at your local library and renew it until you return it. I finished all the practice tests in the book and came to the internet to find some more practice tests. I was really surprised on how there weren't as many resources to use. So I turned to the library to see if they had more resources for me. I'm so grateful for this because a sweet librarian knew I was struggling to find more books and practice tests for my CPP test, so he told me about the library website itself. HERE is the website that literally saved my life for all the subtests. For Math, I recommend this part of the website and passthemathtest.com They have practice tests to use that I found really helpful and I hope you can benefit from them too :)
If you got here all the way to the bottom of this post, I really hope you found this helpful and I pray it's something to look back to if you need any support!

I’ve been working on my California proficiency HiSet tests and I’ve already passed the math section. I’ve took the reading part 3 times and failed by a 13/20 I don’t really understand what I’m doing wrong I’ve studied so hard and solved around 500 questions before each tests. I’ve also failed the writing by a 13/20 as well I can’t tell if I have horrible luck or if I’m just stupid. Any tips?
So I just passed my cpp test all three sections but I got no email of my diploma I am so confused my school starts in August 17th, how will it work do I just go to my school and show on hiset.com that I passed or do I need an official email or do I need an official certificate. And to apply to my community college do I need an official certificate or would the online one do I’m scared I don’t get the official certificate in time and everything is last second.
Finished all three subtest of the cpp and currently waiting for certificate or verification to withdraw from high school. Lmk how long it takes pls
