Will these be addressed in future chapters?

I just finished chapter 2 Watanagashi and I am scratching my head about some aspects

  1. Will it be explained why Rena acted completely different from Onikakushi?

First she is also portrayed with those empty devil eyes alongside Mion, puts a needle inside Keiichi's food with her and even clutches Keiichi so Mion can inject whatever was inside that syringe into Keiichi to do god knows what with him.

And now she is doing a 180 and is teaming up with Keiichi to stop Mion who was the only evil one in this chapter. Not just that she felt like a completely different person from the first chapter. I thought all of the 4 girls where in on the conspiracy or whatever so I did not expect Rena 'I stand below your window during the whole rainy night and mumble "I’m sorry"' Ryuugu to work against Mion.

Not even her backstory with the broken windows and her, bludgeoning her former classmates with a metal bat out of nowhere was mentioned or important at all. Like it never happened and now she is a completely normal person.

  1. If Tomitake and Takano in Onikakushi were killed for the same reason as in Watanagashi (supposing they actually broke into the storehouse) shouldn’t Rika and Kiichiro also have died in chapter one?
And why was she all dirty and messy when Keiichi confessed to her?

  2. And what was that about those weird noises Tomitake and Shion heard? You know, that thing about a child jumping on wooden floorboards.

I don’t want to be spoiled so I am really only asking if I just gotta keep reading

Confused.

Am I just supposed to keep watching these time loops?

I’m on like episode 6 of the first season and I’m really confused

Google said it’s split into arcs of like time loops, but it doesn’t feel right.

The first 4 episodes felt like pure plot, but so far, these last 2 have felt like filler episodes.

What do you guys think of Akasaka?

Personally I really like him. Out of all the protagonists, he's definitely the briefest but one of my favorites because of just how normal he feels. He's the most regular guy out of all of them, even Keiichi. And I really love his relationship with Rika, and how much he cares about his family. Also maybe I self insert just a little bit but better him than Tomitake because you know.

Question about Chapter 2

I just finished Chapter 2 of the VN and wanted to clarify something about the yearly killings/disappearances.

If the answer to this question is more complex than a surface level answer that reveals spoilers for later chapters, please just tell me to keep reading for my answer.

In this chapter, Mion is shown to be directly responsible for the murder of all the victims after this year’s Watanagashi. However, in the previous years, was Mion also directly responsible for murder or conspiracy of murder? I believe this was stated as the case, but I just wanted to set it straight and make sure I understood correctly.

Daily Higurashi character fanart thread 1 - Rena Ryugu

Hello artists of r/Higurashinonakakoroni!

Despite not being able to draw, I’ve had an interest in cartoon/anime style art and I want to promote human made art as opposed to generative AI. Higurashi has also been an interest of mine for a few years now, so I thought I’d try something new. So, I’m going to be doing a daily thread where you can show off drawings that you made yourself of Higurashi characters, one thread focused on each character with a sprite from the visual novels.

I’m going to be starting with Rena Ryugu! “Hauuuuu~ Omochikaeri!!!!”

After 1 year of inactivity, I return with my 'Thug Life Shion' edits from back in the day (early 2010s'). FYI: the first one is a remake, and I honestly love how it came out. 😂

New fan: Just finished VN Onikakushi

Not sure if posts like these get removed, but screw it, I have to gush about this.

I rarely ever commit to new content these days, especially if the time commitment is significant, but something about Higurashi drew me back in this weekend, a whole 4 years after I tried and dropped the anime.

I played Onikakushi over the course of three days and I’m especially blown away by how well Keiichi’s paranoia/psychosis/train of thought was presented to me. The progression from approaching the town with an open mind, to becoming curious about its past, to spending time with his new friends, to suspecting their odd behaviors, to pressuring them further for answers, to discovering the history of murders and missing persons cases, to seeing his friends completely shift their identities out of nowhere, to pursuing self preservation and more answers from Ooishi, to the attacks from his “friends” (ie the Mochi needle), to wanting to give up his curiosity to go back to the way things were, to realizing he couldn’t go back after all, to pushing forwards with his self preservation and boundaries/walls, to second guessing his every single thought, up to murdering his friends (unknowingly?), to admitting that there really is a curse after all in his final moments. I know I just went over the chapter basically, but the level of depth in that progression is just absolutely insane to me atm. It feels weird to say that I feel sorry for Keiichi and that I side with him, but there’s something about the fact that his death at the end of this chapter did NOT occur on the night of the festival that makes me feel as though he triumphantly broke “the pattern”, brought the world closer to the truth, and accomplished his goal that I find uniquely bittersweet.

My understanding is that, Keiichi started experiencing something similar to the “that’s not Rena” experience for himself without realizing it, and I’m in left wondering if the reverse scenario of “that’s not Rena” was happening when Rena and co. weren’t in their “crazy states” and instead saw Keiichi in a “crazy state” without the reader being able to see from their POV. Not sure what the tipping point was for Keiichi going into “crazy state” began, or what he should have done to avoid the “bad ending” that resulted. Still, I’m amazed with how detailed and in depth this chapter got into Keiichi’s head. I don’t think I ever empathized with a character’s paranoia enough to find them murdering two people to have a silver lining of optimism to it, and I think that’s a testament to the writing here.

Definitely eager to read more in the near future! Hopefully the steam sale is still up! 👀
